To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Oh, gosh, Phoenix, so sorry to hear your news, but delighted you had a wonderful birthday. Like many others, I don’t post often, but read a lot, and your posts were guaranteed to raise a smile (or guffaw!)

May peace and love surround you always.

I have never met you or Mr. P but I can imagine him standing in your house with the new loo seat around his neck- the present he gave you that Christmas! I have many lasting memories of your wit and humour but that and the gammon will remain forever.

You are my favourite poster and have made me laugh so many times. Take care. xx

Nortsat Sat 07-Aug-21 18:35:40

So glad you had such a lovely birthday. It’s sounds delightful.

It’s lovely to know you are pottering and enjoying what you do.
Wishing you good things every day x

Hello Ladies (and others wink,).

I just love the idea of you all dancing to Pata Pata with my bearers!

I can get "someone" to post the day and time (once known) but hopefully not for sometime yet!

midgey Sat 07-Aug-21 19:49:57

Fingers crossed that it’s not for a long time!

phoenix Sat 07-Aug-21 19:59:18

In all fairness to Mr P, (and there's a phrase you don't see very often!) Charleygirl point 1. He is an engineer. Point 2. I had been moaning about that toilet seat for ages!

It was like riding a bucking bronco! blush If it wasn't trying to throw you off the side, then it was slamming the lid into your back!

So, he being a practical sort of chap, bought me a new one. I didn't expect it gift wrapped though confused

Ah - so you’ve finally decided to let the cat out of the bag in your own inimitable way. I’m glad you got to be around for your birthday and I’m even hopeful for one more Christmas if you’re still feeling up to it.

You only have to glimpse at the length of this thread to know that you’re a treasured friend - both in real life and ‘virtually’ and you will be very much missed. But you’ve not gone yet so please keep posting for as long as you feel able. ❣️

I've had a thought! smile

There's a bit of an "event" planned for this Sunday, weather permitting. If any of you live within travelling distance of here (and I know at least one of you does wink ) please pm me and I will send you an invitation with some further information.

If you're not sure if you are within travelling distance we are in North Devon, between Holsworthy and Torrington, postcode area EX21

Phoenix I am a newbie on the Good Morning page but came across your post. I am glad you had a fabulous birthday. You are obviously highly thought of/loved by many. My best wishes to you. I will be thinking of you.

What a lovely thought. Sadly it would take me about 6 hours ! Hope the event is fun.

It’s a 6 hour drive from me too but have a lovely day today Phoenix,
I was in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago we were driving back from a caravan holiday, it is truly a beautiful part of the world ( though the traffic jam I was stuck in was rather less beautiful ).
Enjoy your ‘bit of an event’ and hope the sun shines.

Luckygirl Sun 08-Aug-21 10:45:42

I hope your event goes well. Bit of a long drive from here; or I would love to join you. Enjoy.

Callistemon Sun 08-Aug-21 10:55:43

If I start paddling across in my coracle, I might reach you in time for the party!!

???? bringing balloons, I was thinking they might speed me on my way but the wind's coming in the opposite direction.
Back to the oar.

Laughterlines Sun 08-Aug-21 12:03:02

Over five hours for me too. Hope you have a lovely day though, weather improving here (Suffolk).

GillT57 Mon 09-Aug-21 12:11:36

like many, my initial delight at seeing you post again was dashed by your news, delivered in your own inimitable way. I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday, content and secure in the love that surrounds you.

Luckygirl Mon 09-Aug-21 13:26:00

I hope that yesterday went well Phoenix.

Sally12 Mon 09-Aug-21 13:46:03

I think the event is next Sunday, Luckygirl

Charleygirl5 Mon 09-Aug-21 14:09:44

You are correct Sally12 and with luck the sun will be shining. I live in London, did not win the premium bond million this month so I also will not be popping in.

NannyJan53 Mon 09-Aug-21 14:11:11

I was so happy to see you posting again, then my mood was plunged downwards by your very sad news.

I always looked out for your posts, as others have said they were immediately recognised by the title! Always used to chuckle at your tales regarding MrP

I so admire your positivity and the way you are dealing with this. It is truly awe inspiring!

The number of posts on this thread are testimony to the fact that you are much loved here.

Love to you and MrP and your family and friends.

Kalu Mon 09-Aug-21 14:56:42

Pretty long drive for me from Scotland as you know Phoenix That said, have a wonderful garden party and know you will be foremost in my mind on the day. ???
No one will be more surprised than me if Calli makes it in her coracle! Wear a life jacket, take a few flashes with you to enable the lifeguards to find you Calli. ??‍♀️
