Well, what a surprise!

To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Ha! phoenix, good choice of music. I hope they do dance - but not on your grave!

My FiL was carried out to "Lazybones" and there were good choices of in and out music at a recent funeral here.

I want to be carried out to a ceilidh band, and the bearers can jig their way out of the door with the congregation jigging and reeling behind them.

xx

Phoenix we have been on Gransnet a long time and over the years you have cheered me up with your funny stories, some of them so bizarre they had to be true.
I keep in my desk drawer, the poem you wrote for Kitty, and often look at it and chortle.
A virtual hug and hand holding from me, you are one special lady ?

Pata pata is brilliant - I sang it with 200 others on a sort of scaffold for the performers - and you are right - no-one could keep still - I was very concerned that the whole thing might collapse! It is basically saying........Let's party!!

Pata Pata
So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...
So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...

That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata…
That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata…

Pata Pata is the name of the dance
We do down Johannesburg way
And everybody starts to move
As soon as Pata Pata starts to play

So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...
So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...

That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata…
That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata…

Every Friday and Saturday Night
It’s Pata Pata time!
The dance keeps going all night long
Til’ the morning sun begins to shine!

So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...
So we grooved and said: "Check it out!"
This is the Pata Pata...

That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata
That’s it, lady!
This is the Pata Pata

You are much in my thoughts.

Phoenix, I’m sending you love. You’ve been on Gransnet since the beginning, as have I. You’ve made me laugh with all your stories of your mishaps - lots of them involving knickers,
and I’ve felt your sadnesses, too.
You’ve ‘kept on, keeping on’ regardless.
We’ll always remember you.
Bless you.

Dear Phoenix, or as I call you,
The bird from Windsor Castle,
I have missed your wonderful posts, your humour and wonderful way with words.
The fact you lived at the castle really tickled me, and you have cheered me up on many occasions when I really needed it.
I’m so sorry you’ve had such a rotten time, and send my lovex

Phoenix, you funny, strong and wonderful woman. How we have missed you and will miss you again in the future.
Enjoy the time that you have, grab every moment and squeeze til it hurts.
I’m sure you will be mentioned many times over the years when we reminisce, always thought of as that funny, brave person that made us smile.
What a legacy.
I hope that everyone saves the link to Pata pata and when the time comes Phoenix I hope that we will all dance in our kitchens on that day and think of you.
Bon courage dear lady
PS no gloved finger necessary for my prostate/prostrate cotoneaster, turned out it was a pyracantha.

For those not too familiar with the marvellous Miriam Makebe here she is singing Pata Pata in 1967.
