I'm certainly not a fan of PM and don't watch GMTV but am wondering if he'll be re instated.

For many years I have made a point of looking up the meaning of words I don't properly understand, now so much simpler with the advent of search engines, particularly where initials are used in what I would call text speak (probably an outdated term).

Not so much freedom of speech but taking care in your choice of words and expressions.

My understanding of the word bint, not heard of it for years, was as a slang alternative to bird or totty, meaning female companion or girlfriend of no particular standing, but not demeaning or derogatory.

This is how rumours start.... wink

It wasn't PM who used the word. Ailidh grin Too much even for him.

Haha, rumours gu leòr!!!

As to being conquered: Wha' daur meddle wi' me/Cha togar m' fhearg gun dìoladh/Nemo me impune lacessit.

Piers Morgan has had it in for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, ever since she met him once and then gaslighted him (possibly advised to by Harry given PM's track record in the media?). He is obsessed with her and has not got one single good word to say about her - and a lot of very nasty ones. He will not let it drop and stormed off set when Alex Beresford challenged him on his biased views. I cannot stand the man - he, along with Katie Hopkins, are what I call "professional trolls", ie they are being controversial just for the sake of it and to get attention.

I agree, Saetna. He seems a very unpleasant man. He obviously has his favourites (trump) but if you don’t agree with him you are nothing better than something nasty on his shoe. I won’t even talk about K Hopkins, who was recently deported from Australia.

"being controversial for the sake of it and to get attention" ..

sounds like one M. Markle to me.

He can be but I've seen programmes with children and vulnerable people and he has seemed genuinely very nice with them. Hopefully he isn't all bad.

The ruling is fair and just and possibly a warning to anyone else who wishes to bully the broadcasting authorities in any country to do what they want because of their status.

Great post coastalgransmile.

Surely their self-perceived status.

Thanks for your insight Blossoming ?

I had to read this a couple of times to understand what you meant.

It was confusing to me because I thought you meant that PM was the bully, which he is of course.

love0c Mon 06-Sept-21 08:13:29

PM is the bully, in your opinion Alegrias1. Not everyone must agree with you. This is called democracy.

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 08:19:53

No, it's called freedom of opinion. Democracy is a system of government.

I think PM is a bully, which he demonstrates by his behaviour. Others might think differently ?

love0c Mon 06-Sept-21 08:23:41

Well done Alegrias1. Your previous post, 'which of course' to 'I think'. smile

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 08:29:45

Piers Morgan is a bully who uses his physical presence and the prejudices of other people to ride roughshod over people, and thinks he can say anything he likes.

If he is nice to people in private, that makes it worse, because he knows that acting the bully gets him popularity with the masses.

Happy?

theworriedwell Mon 06-Sept-21 09:18:56

He's also nice to people on TV, I've seen him being very challenging with govt ministers, I've seen him being very nice with colleagues, Kate Garraway springs to mind, and guests. I remember a little girl on GMB who had disabilities and he was lovely with her, Captain Tom the same. He was unreasonable about MM but I don't think challenging politicians makes him a bully, in a democracy the govt have to be held to account and the voters are entitled to ask questions and get answers. This govt are pretty poor on the answers bit.

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 09:42:37

I tried to post some of PM's tweets but for some reason they won't post. Those who can, go and take a look at his Twitter feed and decided for yourselves whether these are the tweets of a reasonable person, or the tweets of a person with no conscience who really, really wants people to talk about him and think he cares about war veterans and little children?

Examples: calling somebody a lickspittle and describing a footballer as braindead. Nice. I'm sure his mother loves him.

PippaZ Mon 06-Sept-21 09:43:12

It seems some people, including the OP, seem to think Piers Morgan has been "cleared". He has not; "the broadcaster" has.

Piers Morgan is just as he ever was but he was lucky in that "the broadcaster" balanced his outpouring. Whatever you thought he was before this event does not need to change. I doubt too many "broadcasters" would want to risk their reputations by having him on in the future.

PippaZ Mon 06-Sept-21 09:43:34

seem to think think

tickingbird Mon 06-Sept-21 09:51:35

Yes I will ignore my lived experience and do as I'm told by internet search

Some on here seem to spend all their time googling and posting links. Fascinates me how seriously some take an online forum. I mean if it’s on the internet it must be true. Right?

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 09:56:36

Its on online forum and we find information online.

While others try to discredit those who like to post facts rather than something they've just cooked up as an "opinion"

Fair enough, free country.

Pammie1 Mon 06-Sept-21 10:05:29

PM is a very divisive figure, but this is significant for freedom of speech. I hate the whole cancel culture thing.

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 10:09:28

PM got called out by a colleague on air for doubting a person's mental health problems and flounced offset like a sulking three year old in the hope that everybody would think he's the victim.

Nobody was "cancelled".

I think the fact that ITV were cleared, and that Morgan isn't the subject of the ruling, is very interesting. Just look at the title of this thread to see how its being interpreted. Its all about PM, in PM's mind....

Lucca Mon 06-Sept-21 10:41:30

The freedom of speech thing is very difficult. Interpreted in different ways. PM should be free to say Meghan is a liar but Harry should not be free to say anything against the RF.

Is “cancel culture” a new one to go with “woke” and “political correctness” as derogatory terms?

Lucca Mon 06-Sept-21 10:41:49

I forgot “snowflake”
