Hello all!

Further to the rather pointless ‘Hello from GNHQ’ thread, in which we suggested and asked for several things, but nothing was actually addressed.

One particular concern was Iam64’s continuing inability to post.

I wondered aloud on the aforementioned thread whether we should have a ‘Day of Direct Action’, and all email the management about this
([email protected])

What do you all think?
Any ideas, suggestions, anything?
Thank you smile

JaneJudge Sun 05-Sept-21 15:50:01

I feel the same way as you BlueBelle.

I am a heavy plant crossing

Galaxy Sun 05-Sept-21 15:53:14

But that's completely subjective, what's a silly spat to me might be really offensive to someone else.

Galaxy Sun 05-Sept-21 15:54:40

The worst sites I have seen were the ones that had little or no moderation. They were like the wold west.

Galaxy Sun 05-Sept-21 15:54:50

Or wild even.

JaneJudge Sun 05-Sept-21 16:04:11

Would the Wold West be Stroud?

Galaxy Sun 05-Sept-21 16:05:08

Are you still drunk?

JaneJudge Sun 05-Sept-21 16:09:51

come on galaxy, they do like a protest in Stroud grin

Galaxy Sun 05-Sept-21 16:14:52

grin.

Callistemon Sun 05-Sept-21 16:20:04

Stroud is not averse to the odd protest or three grin going back a long way - who remembers the Stroudwater Riots?
(Perhaps not ?, none of us are that old)

FannyCornforth Sun 05-Sept-21 16:42:36

Galaxy

Last year’s Mumschat for instance?!
And that charmer Archewell?

nadateturbe Sun 05-Sept-21 17:33:17

Thanks Bluebelle

kittylester Sun 05-Sept-21 17:39:40

urms, I suspect the person who reported ev is no longer here. I imagine it was the airborne accessory.

sodapop Sun 05-Sept-21 17:51:12

Don't think it was FH kittylester it was after that.

As someone else said what can HQ do about a poster's technical difficulties, or does the problem lie with the GN site ?

Doodledog Sun 05-Sept-21 17:52:48

I think the problem is with the site, as I'm can post elsewhere, including Mumsnet, so it sounds as though things are ok at her end.

Grandmajean Sun 05-Sept-21 18:10:42

Thamks, Fanny think I know what to do now.

Urmstongran Sun 05-Sept-21 18:28:38

Your description just made me chuckle kitty! ?

Bridie22 Sun 05-Sept-21 18:29:24

You lead, I will follow with support ?

Lucca Sun 05-Sept-21 18:42:20

I seem to remember Ellianne saying she had had enough of GN ?

I agree we should be complaining about Iam64 not being able to post.

I also think bans are a bit daft unless they are racist etc or disseminate false info.

I just find irritating when gnhq ask us if everything is ok and then nothing happens !

JackyB Sun 05-Sept-21 19:14:34

I'm not really sure what to write either. I may just direct them to the "Hello from GNHQ" thread and politely ask them to read it. Unless someone can suggest a formulation that we could all use. That might attract their attention.

Mollygo Sun 05-Sept-21 21:14:50

I’ll support. That Hello from GNHQ thread would have been better not sent at all if nothing was going to change. I’d appreciate a suggested formula.

Doodledog Sun 05-Sept-21 21:16:27

How about this as rough template?

Dear Lily
You asked a while ago whether we had any concerns or questions for you, and many of us took the time to answer, but as yet nothing has come of any of our requests.

I am particularly concerned about a long-standing poster, Iam64 who is still unable to post after many weeks. We know that she and others have been in contact with you, and that both she and they have been told that you are 'looking into it', but as yet no progress appears to have been made.

I am aware that a number of us are concerned about the way in which posters are sometimes 'banned ' from posting, and that when this happens there is no explanation and no right of appeal. This seems very unreasonable given that we are all capable adults who are, on the whole, perfectly well able to deal with most disagreements on our own.

Clearly if there are legal breaches which would fall upon your head we understand that action has to be taken, but the general impression is that all it takes for someone to lose posting rights is for an anonymous message of complaint to be sent to you.

It would be great if (a) you could reassure us that Iam64's situation has, indeed been progressed (with details if possible), and (b) if you could explain to us the procedure that is gone through before someone is banned from posting. I understand that you can not comment on individual cases, but if you could see your way fit to reinstate EllanVannin that would be a popular move ?.
Best wishes
Doodledog

Mollygo Sun 05-Sept-21 21:22:42

Thanks Doodledog.

FannyCornforth Mon 06-Sept-21 07:54:36

Thank you Doodledog , that’s excellent smileflowers

I will be emailing this morning
[email protected]

Just a short message asking if everything possible is being done to help Iam64; and asking if EllanVanin’s ban may be reconsidered.

Please remember Galaxy’s wise advice to keep it impersonal and polite.

Thank you again Doodledog

Doodledog Mon 06-Sept-21 09:26:41

No problem.

People should, of course, feel free to tweak it however they like.

I am sending my e mail now.

Wording as follows:

Dear GNHQ

Whilst we appreciate that we enjoy the use of the Gransnet website free of charge and for the most part without hitches, we have many questions that remain unanswered.

The main worry at present is for the difficulties our friend Iam64 is having with access to the site. This may also affect other members whom we are not actively aware of. Despite promises from your end at various points, this situation seems to remain in stalemate. Please put in a concerted effort to rectify it.

Many other niggles and requests seem to be simply ignored.

Your latest request for our input ( www.gransnet.com/forums/site_stuff/1299485-Hello-from-GNHQ?pg=11 ) has generated 255 posts, but sadly, apart from starting the thread, there has been very little reaction from GNHQ.

It would be nice to hear on a regular basis what is actually going on. Even if you can only say that a problem is insurmountable, or would exceed the budget, at least we will know that we have not been ignored.

We often see the blue coloured GNHQ posts with new names. Perhaps you could give us an idea of everyone who works at GNHQ and thereafter keep us informed about changes to staff so that we can make communication more personal.

Best regards

JackyB
