I have been on here I think for a couple of years now and I have noticed some very weird and wonderful user names
and wonder if anybody would like to share the origin of theirs?..

Smileless2012

I joined GN after we were estranged by our youngest son which meant we lost our only GC. So, at the time I smiled less. That was more than 8 years ago and I'm happy to say now I smile more.

I thought of changing my user name but it reminds me of how far I've come.

So glad you are smiling more smile

Callistemon Thu 09-Sep-21 19:06:31

I looked up lots of names but none suited then looked out of the window and saw my bottlebrush (Callistemon).
My hair was very short and looked just like a bottlebrush so I picked it as a username.

Since lockdown my hair isn't short and spiky now and I should change my name to something like Wild&Woolly but I prefer Callistemon.

grumppa Thu 09-Sep-21 19:10:31

For a while my family referred to me (quite unjustly), as the Christmas Grump. It seemed a pity to let the Grump bit go to waste.

Callistemon Thu 09-Sep-21 19:23:54

Have you got one of these, *grumppa?
DH was given one by our kind DGD ?

Redhead56 Thu 09-Sep-21 19:24:18

My name is simply the natural colour I was its white now.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 09-Sep-21 19:29:47

Mine is what my grandson called me when we were playing stomping our feet and being dinosaurs which like most little ones he adores. He said “ you be Grandma Dinosaur” and it’s stuck. It’s not that I’m old fashioned or anything like that ……. well I don’t think so anyway ??

Jaxjacky Thu 09-Sep-21 19:35:36

Jax is a singer I like and my son used to love Jacky Cheung, it sort of flows..

Juno56 Thu 09-Sep-21 19:41:36

When I was planning to join GN I said to my DH " they will all be domestic goddesses". He said "well they won't know you're not "! So I thought if I'm going to be a goddess then I shall be a good one. Hence Juno the Roman queen of the gods and 56 is my year of birth.

ginny Thu 09-Sep-21 19:42:21

Mine is the name an Aunt used to call me.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 09-Sep-21 20:43:54

Because I do.

Alizarin Thu 09-Sep-21 21:01:26

Alizarin Crimson is one of my favourite paint colours.

Calendargirl Thu 09-Sep-21 21:05:47

Think Neil Sedaka was singing on the radio when I was trying to think up a username….

Grannybags Thu 09-Sep-21 21:09:59

My family nickname was ***bags. When my eldest brother phoned to congratulate me on the birth of my first GD he called me Grannybags instead so it seemed a good idea to stick with it!

LucyLocket55 Thu 09-Sep-21 21:23:00

Named after my horse.

Shinamae Thu 09-Sep-21 21:35:16

Hellogirl1

I think we`ve done this before, but here goes.
I was a GPO telephonist many years ago, so my first username was numberplease. After difficulties getting into Gransnet a couple of years ago, I changed to callgirl1, still reminiscent of my long ago job.

Where did Shinamae come from?

Not sure,it just came into my head, would like to change it but will have to stick with it I think…

LullyDully Thu 09-Sep-21 21:49:40

Pet name of Mr LD

Curlywhirly Thu 09-Sep-21 22:48:32

It rhymes with part of my name and was my nickname at primary school - and it has nothing to do with my hair - which is straight!

cornergran Thu 09-Sep-21 22:52:20

Because I live on a corner.

Casdon Thu 09-Sep-21 22:57:40

I’m the name of a children’s toy making company which makes replicas of real household items for children to play with.

CafeAuLait Thu 09-Sep-21 23:02:47

I'm not very good at thinking up usernames. So I looked around, saw the coffee in front of me, and just used that.

DillytheGardener Thu 09-Sep-21 23:19:47

Mine is short for my middle name, Delia, known by close family as Dilly as another, and the gardener because I am a keen but bombastic gardener.

I loved hearing the meanings behind your names Curlywhirly and Lucky legs I often wondered what they meant!

Of course
It never clicked!

Smileless2012 Thu 09-Sep-21 23:27:26

Thank you 3dognightsmile

I thought it might be to do with the chocolate bar!

onebraincell Thu 09-Sep-21 23:41:05

I chose my username because I only have one brain cell left.
