I remember dropping dd at her halls of residence in Dundee and leaving her in an empty flat which looked like a prison. I stopped on the A9 outside Gleneagles and phoned her to say she could come home and I would turn around and get her. Of course she stayed and became more independent.

Rugby (go Tigers!) and some hand quilting on a printed cot panel this afternoon. I am ashamed to say it was started for a baby who is now 14 but it is being finished for an unexpected step great grandchild, due in March.

A wet and miserable day here central heating on.
Thank you for your comments, I emailed the young man yesterday morning to say I couldn’t have him living here but offering help to sort himself out with the authorities if he needs me, so far he hasn’t replied.
I am so annoyed that I was put in that situation.
I am going to a friends for dinner tonight and I am taking the food.
I have no curtains up and a rather messy house until my decorating is finished, hopefully in three weeks.
She was 80 in August so this is my present to her.
Some things are ready but some will need finishing off in the oven, disposable containers so I don’t leave her with the washing up.

Yay! Shuffles into the kitchen feeling a tad bleary-eyed. We celebrated throughout last evening and bedtime was delayed by a few hours. All in all, a very happy day in every possible way.

gillgran From the moment babes take their first faltering steps, we "grown ups" want to stand in at times when they take the giant step towards becoming independent. It's what we do. Letting go is hard to do. But...new horizons open up and should be explored.

Urms When we first made our home in Scotland, we wished to learn the Gaelic language. We haven't mastered anything beyond failte [welcome] and slainte [good health]. You are right, the language sounds nothing like the written word. Mr Soop enjoys a single malt. He may wish to look for a bottle of that which you shared here in the kitchen.

RIP dear Misty - DD1 had to help 18 year old Misty over the Rainbow Bridge today ??. I know people often say only a cat but she was a much loved family member ?

Grandchildren leaving home for the next big step? Always a bitter sweet moment, but we love them, we raise them, we buy them luggage and we wave them off. (They'll keep coming back, they're not daft!) And although we worry, we must be proud of their moves into independence and how we've helped that process. So let's raise a glass to Mums/Grans and not be sad!

Surprised to hear how cold it has become. Not helped by lashing rain, I'm sure. It was comfortable enough here to drink coffee, go for a stroll along the boardwalk with friends and our dogs and then sit on a beach terrace for lunch. Dogs snored, boats sailed past, children paddled, 26 degrees, lots of gossip and laughter and a perfect Med' Saturday.

Sounds as if you are having a lot of fun, Muse. I'll bet your DD is so pleased to just be a daughter again for a few days. Enjoy it all. Have a great evening with your friend, Ann. Sounds as if you have organised the catering perfectly. You're a good friend to turn up with "meals on wheels" which will doubtless be much appreciated.

BattyJunior is clearly very talented, GrandmaB, although she will probably be more than happy to put that particular talent away for a while until she gets used to a new baby + Toddler Terror routine.

I've been making cakes this afternoon - Coffee & Walnut and Bakewell tarts for a proper English tea tomorrow afternoon with a friend in the garden. Extra tarts will be left near the Aga for those who are close enough to toast their toes and enjoy with a hot drink some time this evening.

Hope it's a very enjoyable evening and I'd like to think that you've all had some achievement - however small - and are now happy just to sit with happy thoughts of tomorrow.

Well it’s Saturday night and I have to laugh to myself - I’ve had a warm bath and I’m now sat on the sofa with a cup of tea! Oooh how I wish for the years long ago when at this time on a Saturday I’d have had my bath but rather than pjs on I’d be getting into my glad rags and heading out for a night on the town - those were the days! I must really make an effort to get out more in the evenings ?

Oh grandmafrench thank you so much for those Bakewell tarts left by the Aga, they’re my favourite and just what’s needed - they’re absolutely scrumptious

Well I’ve waded back through trying to catch up with you lovely people but have to admit defeat. I’m afraid I’ll just have to sit back and get to know you all slowly.
Lovely to see some chums from the Argy days, Doodle, AGA, Lins and Lisagran. Lots of familiar names of more recent friends too and lots of names new to me, I look forward to learning more about you all in this warm and friendly kitchen.
I love your tartan boots Soop, do you stand and click your heels together when you make a wish? I think I know what it would be and hope it comes true soon. By the way, no I’m far from a trained artist, just a doodler with a pencil and a splodger with a paint brush. Fun though.
