Blossoming Wed 20-Dec-23 16:16:43

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. It has been raining nonstop today and very windy so I haven’t been out. I have had a mini wardrobe declutter as I couldn’t find the leggings I want to wear with a dress and boots on Boxing Day. I can’t manage tights so leggings with socks and boots do the job just as well. I found them safe hiding behind a small pile of t-shirts so that’s me all prepared grin

Hope you’ve had a good sleep Cornergran, and all the rest of us too. I know I’ve seen a few of you in the GM thread today.

Enjoy your chippy tea Soop, I’m quite envious! It’s a very occasional treat for us. Lentil soup for me later, to keep my digestive system happy. Hope Mr Soop’s GP visit is productive tomorrow.

Grandmabatty Wed 20-Dec-23 16:40:56

Good afternoon kitcheners. Oh my goodness. I have had a very lazy day and I will regret it, I'm sure. Soop enjoy your chippie. Blossoming I never wear tights either. Yiayia I'm glad you are feeling a bit better.
I have a sore head and a bit of a sore throat. Dgs2 had a very runny nose yesterday and sneezed lots, so he's probably smitten me 🙄. I managed to tidy the kitchen, my bedroom and the boys' room so far. My plan tonight is to wrap the remaining presents and marzipan the cake at least. Steak casserole for dinner. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Grannmarie Wed 20-Dec-23 17:32:00

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. Sorry I didn't manage to return to the kitchen last night, I fell asleep on the sofa after our busy day.😴
I hope Jaxjacky and Cornergran both slept better last night. A good night's sleep is priceless.
Glad to hear that MrSoop is responding to treatment, I hope all goes well for him tomorrow.
YiaYia, good to hear that you and your DH are on the mend in time for Christmas. Take care.
Neine, my heart goes out to you. I'm so sorry to hear that you have been distressed. Thinking of you, sending love and prayers. 💕🙏
Urms, what a lovely time for you and L'il Miss at the salon! 💅 I had my Christmas nails and eyebrows done today ( not to mention removal of cheeky hairs from my chin, such an old lady thing!🤣)
Grandmabatty, happy Christmas holidays, enjoy a few long lies , you have most certainly earned them!
Blossoming, I really struggle with tights, leggings are much more comfortable. And cosier!
This afternoon DSis1 and I took a festive wreath to our family memorial bench at the local Marian shrine. A moment of quiet prayer and reflection amidst all the busyness. I said a wee prayer for all the kitchen folk who need/ wish one.
I greatly appreciate your kind support for DH and me yesterday. This is a lovely wee community, I'm very thankful to be part of it.

Productive day here. Surprisingly so. Nothing missing from our grocery delivery that I ordered , woohoo. All the cleaning accomplished. Ironing done. Some creative sticking of things in the top of the Christmas cake. Towels washed.

The best thing was a really supportive phone call from our surgery physio. She was very kind. Told me to ignore the exercises she prescribed several weeks ago until covid has finally left me and will arrange a cortisone injection into my painful left knee. Really fortunate I think that we have physios attached to our surgery.

The one down side of the day was discovering I didn’t include bread in our order. Oh dear. Daft thing to forget. Mr C is asleep at the moment. Once he wakes up I’ll head to the useful mini supermarket just a five minute walk away and remedy that. We had a cooked meal at lunch time so nothing major needed this evening.

Your fish and chips sound yummy soop, it’s ages since we’ve had that treat. Must remedy it very soon.

Hope those germs don’t settle in grandmab. Not welcome for sure.

I’m sleeping pretty well thanks blossoming. Last night not so much but usually much more than usual. It certainly makes a difference to my irritability level grin.

Pleased you’re both feeling better yia. Please don’t overdo things, these bugs take time to properly leave us.

Well, I think I’ll wake Mr C, he’s slept for about 90 minutes, time to stir - and for me to wander to the shop, see the decorated houses and remember to get a loaf.

Have a good evening everyone.

Baggs Wed 20-Dec-23 18:22:22

Leggings (or even skinny trousers) under a dress with socks and boots it is, Bloss. I hate tights. I might have accidentally ordered a new dress and jumper in the Seasalt sale today.

Even though I live on a boggy brae and spend most of my time in baggy breeks and wellies or hiking boots, it is nice to have a dress that is just right for whatever event that might raise its head. And there's always summer..... dream, dream, dream 🎶🎶

Enjoy the fish and chips and mushy peas, soopydoop! I know you will 😋

My good wishes to everyone anticipating or enduring medical procedures xx

Jaxjacky Wed 20-Dec-23 18:49:48

Glad to hear you’re improving Yia and we don’t want you as poorly replacement Grandmabatty, vit C and rest.
Thank you Grannmarie eight hours of lovely kip and restored.
Enjoy your fish supper soop we like mushy peas too.
Funny this ‘accidental’ shopping Baggs I ordered MrJ another small gift today, it was 50% off though, so allowed.
Lazyitis here today, but I did get out for a walk, ‘ 10 feels like 6’ apparently, the wind was cool.
I must away to carry on with dinner.

Urmstongran Wed 20-Dec-23 19:02:32

‘Evening All’.

I’m using my NEW iPad. Yay! Himself sorted it while I was out with L’il Miss today (library, bus ride - always popular with little people who mostly either walk or go by car everywhere! - lovely cafe for lunch then we played ‘showtime’ with costumes from the dressing up box) and he did all the techie stuff needed.

I’m a happier bunny tonight. We do indeed have some blessings here. I’ve been counting them today.

hulahoop Wed 20-Dec-23 19:36:45

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 20-Dec-23 20:07:52

Hello kitchen people.
First, I hope Neine has had a better day.
I had an interesting day. It was my 91 year old aunt’s funeral. It was at a crematorium and there was no religion whatsoever, which surprised me. They used to be churchgoers. One of her sons was the master of ceremonies and he and his brother gave eulogies. My uncle (92) gave a moving talk about how they first met and her eldest grandchild also gave a eulogy. It was all very moving. We then moved on to a hotel and reception. My cousin had prepared a montage of photos of my aunt from when she was a child up to meeting her three great grandchildren, who live in Dubai.
I am back home now where OH told me about the delicious U3A Christmas lunch he had today. I’ve just had a mince pie and a small bowl of peanuts,
Have a good evening.

brook2704 Wed 20-Dec-23 21:15:05

Good evening kitchen pals, a good day here. The two DGSs are beyond excited, they finished school and we all went out for a hot chocolate as a treat. I cooked pasta for dinner as DD1 is out on a works do and Sil is working late at the office on something very important that needs finishing before Christmas. I don’t envy those days at all. I’ve just put the two terrors to bed and have settled down with a box of stolen bites and a coffee. There’s lovely tasting real coffee here but the machine is a bit of a challenge - well it is for me anyhow. The next challenge is working out which of the 3 remote controls turns the TV volume up a wee bit 🤷‍♀️

dustyangel Wed 20-Dec-23 21:30:17

Sorry folk I’ve just lost a long post to you all. Briefly DH is not quite as poorly as he was when he arrived home yesterday. Not a lot better though to be honest. Our Nephew thinks he should have been kept in another three days. I visited the nurse this morning who has arranged for the visiting nursing team to come tomorrow. PLEASE pray to any gods available that they find the house. I even had a lesson from the incredibly young technician that our internet company sent to fix a minor problem on how to do a dropped pin ! I’m very doubtful about them managing it. The practice nurse also said that DH would receive a phone call from our GP but I think she just says that to make me feel better.

Jaxjacky Wed 20-Dec-23 21:45:19

dustyangel I’ll keep everything crossed for you and hope tomorrow everything is much improved.

brook2704 Wed 20-Dec-23 22:10:05

Hoping all goes well tomorrow with your DH dusty and the nursing team find you ok ❤️

Grannmarie Wed 20-Dec-23 22:29:18

Cornergran, you've been very busy, well done! I'm behind with cleaning and ironing just now because we've been out a lot recently. Fingers crossed 🤞 I wake up in Domestic Goddess mode tomorrow.

Baggs, you reminded me that this time last year I popped into M and S for festive nibbles and came out with a Seasalt dress... even better if you got a bargain! Enjoy your purchase!

Glad you slept well Jaxjacky.

Happy new Ipad Urms!

Thanks, Hulahoop, I hope you are keeping well. I'm intrigued by your fuddle, sounds like fun!

Ladyleftfieldlover, that sounds like a very touching send off for your dear Aunt.

Hot chocolate with your DGSs sounds very festive, Brook, enjoy your early Christmas with your Cambridge family. Good luck with the remotes!

Dusty, prayers 🙏 offered that the nurses find you easily tomorrow, and that your DH continues to improve a little every day.

I have consulted my notebook, checked my list ( twice 🤣) and made a final list of what I've still to get/ do. DDiL1 texted with final arrangements for Christmas dinner, she's a great cook/ baker, we'll be spoiled! We'll bring Christmas crackers, cheeseboard, crackers and nibbles. Looking forward to it.

TOYA, NNGB.

A quick note to DustyAngel re people finding the house. Download the What3Words app and that will help you and them immensely. what3words.com/reaction.agenda.member

Everyone should download it, it’s so useful!

Nannytopsy Thu 21-Dec-23 06:05:55

Morning all! We came to bed unusually early ( before 11! ) and so I am wide awake very early. My mind is churning with all the jobs still to be done. I am fretting that I have perhaps been too relaxed about getting a turkey without ordering one …
Granmarie I am in awe of your ability to remember and mention everyone in your posts!
I hope all the poorly people are feeling better and that we all have a productive day and get those jobs done!

We are also fans of what3words and use it all the time in our address. As we are not on a street, it means deliverers can't make excuses about not being able to find us really helps.

Hope all the help/info you and DH need today is forthcoming, dusty.

Blossoming Thu 21-Dec-23 11:07:27

I didn’t make it into the kitchen last night, I hope your DH gets the assistance he needs DustyAngel, you’re having a rough ride this year.

soop Thu 21-Dec-23 14:17:04

Yia I am pleased that both you and your husband are recovering in time for the festivities.
We were invited to a drinks and nibbles gathering with friends, only Covid has struck both host and hostess.

Baggs Seasalt garments are very fetching. Pleased to hear that you just "happened" to stumble across your new dress. Enjoy wearing it.

dusty Us lot continue to wish your husband well. You have both had a tough time recently.

Urms I share your joy. smile

The fish 'n chip supper was perfect. We contributed an M&S fresh cream trifle. Simple pleasures.

The wind is howling outside our window. The waves are mountainous. We have experienced weather this wild on one previous occasion. The electricity board rang with a number that we may contact in the event of power loss.

Stay safe, dear peeps. I shall join you again tomorrow. smile moon

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 21-Dec-23 15:20:30

Hello kitchen people.
Wow Soop! Some would describe the weather where you are as exciting but as long as you are safely indoors and nothing is damaged, you can just watch.

I have iced the Christmas cake today. As it’s only 5 inches square there isn’t much scope for complicated decoration. Simply a bit of trellis and three figurines which represent my three children. I also iced the chocolate log. It is back in the freezer but will need a dusting of icing sugar and Santa.

OH is currently in the kitchen preparing a rather large ham. He’s already boiled it and now he’s preparing it for the oven.

Have a good evening everyone.

‘Evening All’.

Not long home after a lovely family get together in our favourite restaurant. Himself drove again tonight - we picked my stepfather up and took him home afterwards. He chuckled when he told us all he’d received over 40 Christmas cards! Mr Popularity for sure.
😁

L’il Miss begged to wear my necklace at the table.
She looked beautiful in it. 🥰

brook2704 Thu 21-Dec-23 21:11:07

Good evening kitchen pals, hoping everyone is doing ok
We’ve had another lovely day here, a bit of a lazy relaxed morning then out for a quick walk around the local country park. This afternoon we were all busy in the kitchen, the highlight for the DGSs was the chocolate house. DD1 and SiL went out late afternoon into London, I’ve been busy here looking after the boys, they’ve just gone to bed and I’m going to have a wee rest now
Hoping all is ok with Dustys DH
Lovely interesting tree llfl
Your stepfather does sound like such a lovely person Urms pleased he’s got such a lot of cards!
