I understand the wish to share experiences with our friends.
But am I alone in wishing my mobile inbox had NOT got clogged up with the entire holiday snaps from my WhatsApp friend’s recent 6 week holiday?
Or seeing a couple of nice pics on a FB post - the final one bearing the dreaded inscription “+36”

My heart would sink.

I know what you mean 😂

I'm a bit snap and send happy. I try to limit my holiday photos to about 4 or 6 when sending to friends.

Friends, relatives...sharing their happiness...what's not to like?...

I have it with family photos especially of the gc. I love that dd sends them to me but do I delete them, keep them or what?

Pix of grandchildren ✔✔✔
Six weeks worth of somebody touring Europe clogging up my data storage? Less so.

This is why I, much to my family's disgust, do not have a smart phone. I am proud of my fairly small family and love looking at photos of them but I don't really want to share their comings and goings when out for coffee or a meal with friends. With friends who don't have grandchildren it can be dogs, their gardens, etc. and it's the volume that I have a problem with. If two or three of us are out for coffee when the phones come out I feel our chat is fairly limited. I do internet banking, e-mails, facebook and shopping on my chromebook in the privacy of my home and in my own time.

I can’t imagine any of my friends doing that to me, yawn.
Long may it continue.

Quizzer Thu 11-Jan-24 11:25:14

I really don’t need to see pics of what you have cooked or are eating in a “fantastic” restaurant on a daily basis. Come to think of it, I don’t want to see them at all!

Annsan Thu 11-Jan-24 11:31:58

Couldn’t agree more!!!!!L

Lona Thu 11-Jan-24 11:38:10

Oh yes, I so agree Rosie’sMaw
There’s one of those friends in our WApp group and then we get the same 48 snaps on FB too! 🙄🙄

No one can force you to look at pics you don't want to look at.

You can delete them if they cause a data storage issue. Maybe save one to remind you what it was about.

I have a friend who has documented her 4 month olds life from day one from his birth until now (and probably will go on) on both insta and FB which I really can't understand at all

cc Thu 11-Jan-24 12:51:24

Fortunately you don't need to look at them!
I also love seeing pictures of my grandchildren, my children no longer use Facebook but Instagram and tend to edit the photos down to the best ones. It is hard to decide which to keep, but who wants to store 40 extra pictures on their computers? It just makes it more difficult to find the ones you like.

After a recent neighbours' party outside last summer (I think it was the Coronation) two kind souls put up 50+ photos of the event. Most of us are long past the time when we wish to see photos of ourselves, though the Red Arrows were interesting!

Can't bear photos, unless they are of dogs and cats being amusing/beautiful. Who wants to see someone else's holiday snaps? They all look the same anyway! Grandchildren only look cute to grannies - I love mine but would never bore anyone else with their photos - if you want to see them, visit my downstairs loo!

I love every pic I’m sent of GCs, ACs, and friends. I’m happy to look at my friends’ photos, I just love to see them so proudly showing off pics of their GCs. It’s part of being a family and friend.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more 👏👏👏

2 or 3 photos fine but no more please. Why do people do it? Honestly beyond me!

Funnygran Thu 11-Jan-24 14:17:07

One of my Facebook friends does a daily update of everything that she, husband and daughter have done the day before. Usually accompanied by photos of exactly what she was wearing or what she cooked. I’m afraid I’ve stopped looking at them. My son tells me I can ‘mute’ her but he’ll have to show me how to do it!

You do if they’ve been shared via WhatsApp - that was my complaint - blocked up data storage full of holiday pics “shared” by a friend !
I’ve spent 3/4 of an hour trying to delete them all from my phone!

Musicgirl Thu 11-Jan-24 14:41:29

I have two friends that do this. The younger friend is like your friend, Funnygran and puts up photos of everything her family does and is seems to be an awful lot. If there isn’t anything else, she will post “memories.” Her two children have had their lives posted on Facebook. She is a lovely person, but I think it is unwise to post so many photos of her children on social media in this way,

Callistemon21 Thu 11-Jan-24 15:48:55

Yes, there is too much over sharing generally these days!

However, this thread reminded me of when we used to visit an Aunt and Uncle of DH at Christmas and, after lunch, were settled down in the best front room, out came the projector and slides and we were subjected to enjoyed a very long slide show of their holidays with commentary.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 11-Jan-24 16:11:52

I am in the fortunate position that none of my friends do this.

It would drive me mad if they did!

But at least we are not in the company of the sender when the photos arrive, which is a blessing.

Remember the days of the cine-films? When you had to watch someone's entire fortnight's holiday during evening coffee at their house?
