Good evening all, good to hear from you Soop and glad you’re feeling a little better.

Well done on surviving the birthday party Grandmabatty, you have earned the wine. Beouf Bourguignon sounds ideal in that weather. It’s been sunny all day here but so cold. Think we’re having sausage, mash and beans tonight.

Pleased to hear your eyes are healing Brook and you’re resting when needed. It isn’t easy when you’re used to being active and busy.

So what have I been doing? Counted out my meds for next week, sorted some paperwork and did a little shredding, did some laundry, then daily physio exercises. Settled down with my audiobook after that. I’m listening to The Thursday Murder Club after recommendations from Soop, Jax and a few others. Really enjoying it so far.

TOYA ❤️

Hi, glad you feel slightly better soop.
That tugged at my heartstrings Grandmabatty, you did well to go and I’m sure your presence was really appreciated, enjoy your dinner.
Slowly does it brook good you got out, it makes a difference doesn’t it.
I’m still ‘not doing a lot’ Imogen was dropped home for the afternoon, she’s being collected now, MrJ took our grandson out to the driving range. Now officially chef MrJ will be cooking sausages, mash and beans soon, I really appreciate all he’s doing, he’s usually washer upper every night, not chef too.

‘Evening All’.

I am over the moon to share with you all that Himself seems to be responding well to his new iv chemo regime. I’m so proud of his positivity. It’s for real too - even in some of the darker days these last few months - he holds the line.

I’ve been with L’il Miss this afternoon and took her to the library here - her favourite place in our square - then into Thornton’s for a small cone. I know … grandmas eh? 😁

And guess what? Himself has just suggested we go over the road for a curry. If you’d have told me this last summer I’d never have believed this would be possible again. We are so very grateful that treatment at the Christie is still being offered. It’s still an anxious time (more for me than Himself - he is stronger than me in outlook and acceptance ‘it is what it is’ etc) but we are tentatively hopeful this treatment is working its magic. Baby steps.

As ever, best wishes to all you lovely Kitcheners. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindnesses and support, it means a lot to me.
x

Grandmabatty Sat 24-Feb-24 18:03:14

Thank you kind folk. I'll get over it. I think it was made worse because I was the only one from dds side of the family. I'll survive and I can say on here. I would never say to dd as that might upset her.

Urmstongran Sat 24-Feb-24 18:08:03

Grandmabatty you are one strong caring lady. I admire you very much.

Blossoming Sat 24-Feb-24 18:16:05

I remembered it was MrJ’s signature dish Jax, poor MrB is chief cook and bottle washer here! I actually love cooking but he doesn’t trust me with sharp knives and hot pans. I do have quite a few scars from my kitchen forays …

Lovely to hear Himself is doing well Urms, enjoy your curry x

Yiayia4 Sat 24-Feb-24 18:22:55

Hope your healing Jax
Hello Grandmarie Enjoy seeing your wee boy.
Will try posting my pic one last time.

Jaxjacky Sat 24-Feb-24 19:34:55

Great news Urms that curry will taste like nectar x

Galaxy Sat 24-Feb-24 19:39:24

Sorry I am an interloper. I just needed a little breather as all the other threads are depressing me beyond words and making me too cross.
Then I read Urms post and it made me smile (and think what a whinger I am smile)
Great news Urmstongran.

Baggs Sat 24-Feb-24 19:53:47

Today has been a day when Seamus Heaney's "big soft buffetings" fron his poem Postscript have been coming at me sideways, catching my heart off guard and blowing it up. I think it is because Monday would have been BTDD's 43rd birthday. Ah well, such is grief.

As it didn't rain today, I cut some wood with my alligator saw. Our boiler isn't working properly and awaits a part so we are getting through some wood for heating..

mrshat Sat 24-Feb-24 20:13:33

O dear! Baggs, Urms. Soop and so many others with sadness, worries, illness, and other difficulties and who all deserve much love, positivity and many hugs. I can only offer these 'virtually' but hold you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and keep safe. flowers

Baggs 💐❤️ You are very stoical in your sadness. Please accept a virtual hug from me 🤗

Blossoming Sat 24-Feb-24 20:34:02

Baggs sending love ❤️

Urmstongran Sat 24-Feb-24 20:42:25

Oh Baggs my heart goes out to you dear lady. Our youngest daughter is 43y. Your grief must sideswipe you and I can only imagine your pain - yet you are still standing. Another soul ‘holding the line’ indeed.

Hello Galaxy 👋 how nice to have you join us in here. Soop would heartily endorse your company - as do we all. It’s a cosy, safe haven. Thank you for your kind words. It’s easy to be hung-ho in life when things are going well. It’s the hard times that take their toll, as we all know.

And Blossoming you do SO well with the cards you have been dealt. Onwards and upwards lovely lady. Your husband is A Keeper that’s for sure.

We are back from our curry night. I cannot believe how well Himself ate. No metallic taste either - a real bonus for him. No alcohol, but he doesn’t miss it. He just wants to get well.

So many thoughtful and kind people in here. I cannot go through a roll call as I would truly monopolise the evening and I’d feel really bad if I missed anyone out - you are ALL such wonderful contributors in this place.

Till next time.
Please keep us close - it truly helps and means a lot.
x

You are, of course, close to my heart, Urms. As are Baggs and of course, soop.

I don't post often but I do keep an eye on you all. Life has been manic here with illness and lots of busyness but I am wishing you all well. And I will be back eventually.

Doodle Sat 24-Feb-24 21:52:59

Urms so pleased that your DHs treatment seems to be working well. That’s good news.
Baggs I don’t have the words, I’m sorry. I think of you often. Such a sad time for all of you. flowers

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 24-Feb-24 21:54:10

Hello kitchen people.
Oh Baggs, I too have a daughter who will be 43 this year.
And Urms, such good news and it’s wonderful Himself enjoyed his curry! Is there any possibility you could both pop over to your special place in Spain for a quick visit? A long weekend maybe,
I haven’t had a particularly busy day. I typed up the WI notes from Wednesday and circulated then. I cooked bangers and mash for dinner and then read. There is so much uncertainty in the world that I find it difficult to relax properly.
Anyway. Onwards and upwards as they say. Sleep tight.

Grannmarie Sat 24-Feb-24 22:10:14

Good to hear from you Soop. I hope your appetite gradually improves and you feel a bit more like yourself!

Urms, I'm so delighted to hear your good news about Himself and so glad you both enjoyed your curry!

brook and Jaxjacky, be gentle with yourselves, take time to heal.

Blossoming, I admire your perseverance with your exercises, I'm sure you must feel the benefits.

Grandmabatty, well done for braving the party and apprehending the escapee! I'm sorry you felt a bit out on a limb, you are an incredible gran and your family loves you to bits.💐

Baggs, 💕🙏, thinking of you, wishing you comfort and solace in your sorrow.

Thanks, YiaYia, we had a great time with the Wee Boy and his Mummy and Daddy. He is a wee bit hingy (West of Scotland for under the weather ) with a cough but he played well and ate most of his dinner. I was down on the floor with him playing with cars and dinosaurs, just had to be careful getting up again!

TOYA, NNGB.

SueDonim Sat 24-Feb-24 22:33:55

My heart goes out to you, Baggs. It’s unspeakable that children should die before their parents, isn’t it? 😰

I’m glad MrU is on the up, Urms. Long may it last and that you have lots of good times ahead of you. flowers
Goodness, Brook a surprise operation! I guess it saves any fretting about it 🤔 and I hope the end result is good.
I hope you are now on the road to recovery, Soop. It’s horrid feeling so poorly.
Erk at your leg, Jackie! Mine looked like that after I broke it. All the colours of the rainbow. confused
Hello Grandmafrench how lovely to see you - and how lovely for you to see again in bright technicolour! That truly sounds like a miracle.
Congrats to your GD, Annsixty! She can ferry you to the pub now! grin
I could feel your sadness, GMbatty. It must be so hard sometimes. flowers
It’s good to see you again, Blossoming. smile
I hope MrY is soon improving, Yia.
Hi to Galaxy and anyone I’ve missed.

I’m typing this in a Travelodge near Manchester, not where I thought I’d be 48 hours ago! As you’ll recall, we acquired a new kitten just over three weeks ago. He is adorable (and naughty) and we are quite besotted so when we heard that his breeder has a last single kitten to home, for a reduced price, we jumped at the chance. We drove down from Scotland earlier today and we are collecting her tomorrow morning! We are quite mad, I’ve decided, but what the heck, just do it anyway. grin

Photos will follow in due course, I am sure. 🐱

Good night, everyone. Xxx

Baggs My heart goes out to you. Urms My husband was like yours. Stoic, accepting, never complaining, despite rotten treatment. I asked him if he was scared. He said 'No. I'll be scared if they tell me to be scared'. When I told people that, they said they didn't believe him. Well I've been married to him for 55 years and I believe hom. He is 10 years in remission now. I wish the same (and longer) for your DH.

Grandmachrisy47 Sat 24-Feb-24 23:28:26

baggs, like Urms and Llfl our younger dd is 43. I can’t imagine your pain. 💐 and hugs to you and all with worries and sorrow.
