Quilt covers advice, please.

So, I would need two or three of them?

One on, one in the wash, and a spare?

Do they take long to dry?

I always have used a top cover and then the duvet on top.

100% cotton duvet covers and also cotton sheets top and bottom. Don't iron the sheets anymore but always iron the duvet covers and pillow cases.

I like 100% cotton, not cotton / polyester blend and don’t get too high a thread count as the more thread count the stiffer and scratchier they can be.
I don’t buy ‘fancy’ brands and have had some nice cotton sheets from Aldi and Dunelm. Sainsbury and Asda sell reasonably priced cotton bed linen. Tesco too probably but we don’t have one nearby.
They last years and don’t seem to get ‘musty’ which I notice more in my dh old cotton mix shirts.

I Don’t iron any bedding, or anything else really. 🤔

I go for 100 per cent cotton if I can. Fold it pre drying if outside to hold its shape. If tumble don't fully dry it and fold to air it to avoid creases
Linen or linen mix is a super but more expensive it's ok to have the creases in this.
I just love the crispness of natural fibres
Maybe if you can wash your inner duvet, this might be causing some of the atmosphere, or go for a wool one ( expensive but worth it)

I like Ikea bedding best, their cotton duven covers, and even their duvets. Also bottom sheets. They are good value and I have never ironed bedding.

If you go for mixed make sure it is 50/50.
52/48 will bobble.

I bought a reduced bamboo cotton sheet and it was so smooth I thought I’d spend more on duvet in the same but it tends to slide around easily.

Only ever pure cotton for me, preferably Egyptian with as high thread count as I can afford, generally in sales! I fold the covers and just iron front and back. I don’t mind ironing though. If I did I would buy cotton seersucker. I think man made fibres can retain odours.

Failing this, I shall have to chop my feet off. (Which have been soaked in Epsom salts and scrubbed within an inch of their life - just in case)

The best I ever had were M&S supima cotton which were silky and didn’t need much ironing but I don’t think they make them now. I’m not fussed about ironing myself and find that their highest count Egyptian cotton are fine if dried flat, but no use in a tumble dryer.

Have you considered that it may be the duvet that smells, not the bedding? What’s it made of? I got rid of all my synthetic duvets and now use a wool one for Winter and a silk one for Summer. Much more pleasant!

A new mattress or mattress topper can smell for quite a while when first in use.

I like Dorma bedding and sheets. My husband irons duvet covers and pillow cases (I can’t due to shoulder problems) but never sheets.

I’m quite intrigued by coverless duvets.

Polycotton mix if you don;t want to iron. Linen mixes are nice but they irritate some people's skin

I'm nit sure what the duvet is,made of but it feels quite "cottony" and was washed a couple of months ago.

I've not had this problem before, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

The only thing I can say with any surety is that this particular quilt cover seems to cause the problem.

It seems fine when I'm in bed, but the next day my room smells fusty.

So as it's a good few years old, out it's going.

I'm not sure if you've ever washed your quilt MissAdventure, or if it perhaps wasn't fully dry afterwards? You can't always tell if they are dry all the way through and they do get that musty smell.
My washer was a bit smelly recently and I found that my pillow protectors came out niffy. I ran a cleaning programme in my washer and then gave the covers a hot wash with Zoflora, both the washer and the protectors seem fine now.

I only use pure cotton bed linen and clothes as I am allergic to most man-made fibres.

And I do not iron bed linen.

Duvet washed a couple of months ago, and pillow protectors just last week.

I'm pretty sure the duvet was dried through, but I guess it's possible it wasn't.

Maybe I should wash it again?

I like microfibre for sheets and pillowcases. But as to the phantom feet aroma - that's a mystery. I'd strip the bed and hoover the matress top. Leave it to air for a day and start with all fresh bedding - if pillows or duvet have any aroma tumble or air dry. You can get some 'scenty' things to add to tumble dryer - but that seems to be admitting defeat (no pun!!).

My duvet covers are the cheap and cheerful ones from the supermarket! I do open the packet and feel them but price usually rules!

Yes, for me too.
I usually feel them, because you can sort of tell if they're mostly cotton.

My quilt came from sainsburys, and it feels rather nice.

I bought some very expensive cotton bed linen from Anna Craven Saigon and it is really lovely - stays crisp and doesn't go limp. Have to say I do pay someone to do my ironing as I hate sheets not ironed! I have just seen that they are now doing linen as well as cotton and feel I may have to treat myself!!! I have some sheets and towels from my grandmother dated 1904 so perhaps I could leave mine to my grandchildren in my will! Linen was often left in wills in the past as it was so valuable.
