If I had to choose.....just one day
(92 Posts)Just that. Nat king Cole came on my play list just now singing that song and I've always known which day I would choose. The day I met my future husband. What day would you choose?

I have stopped her
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, I cannot imagine your pain. It makes my 'regrets' seem very trivial. Sending you 🫂 and 💐.
To have those last few hours with my mother again 💔

To have one day with my late husband, to go a walk, call at the local pub for a drink, just an ordinary day, I still miss him as much, everyone thinks after a couple of years you’re over it.
I know exactly what you mean for me it would be a chance to say all the things I would have liked him to know or be sure of.
Mine would be telling my son he was still grounded instead of letting him go out with his mates and losing his life in a car crash
Glass half full, glass half empty. This thread is half full of happiness and pride and the other glass is half empty of profound sadness and regret. Days, events these women will never forget.
Life is never an abundance of joy and luck, but it is never so devastating that we can’t find happiness and fulfillment. Everyone’s journey is so personal.
What an interesting question that evokes and reveals such memories.

A major regret in my life caused us a huge financial loss. ‘The road not taken. I so wish I could go back to that day and make a phone call - instead of letting my hubris taking over and assuming things would work out fine and dandy.
😢
I also have 2 other major regrets but we are where we are so it’s best not to dwell on them. I’ve drawn a line in the sand. I’ve had to for self preservation.
Strange how this line of thinking has influenced my answer. I’ve many happy memories. But my ‘one day’ would be to mitigate great sadness in my life.
Its the same for me. I have major regrets of decisions that now leave me in an awful position.
My best day ever is hearing " it's gone " after the second time of having cancer, then seeing the joy on my family's. faces when they were told the news.
😢 so saddened by the regrets. Empath territory. Iv got a few too. When I catch myself going into them I sing the line 🎼 'I did it my way' 😁
When I'm struggling I think to myself. "could be better could be worse "
If helps one person it's worth saying lol
🤔some of those regrets we have may look like the better option now but we dont know for sure!?🤷♀️. The financial one I DO get. It's a floating one that's always with you
To Murraymints ( love the name lol)
GREAT PERSPECTIVE. Thankyou xx.
The day before my granddaughter passed away, I'd have held her just that little bit longer if I'd known it'd be the last time.. Though maybe seeing her on the day may have changed the course of events and she'd still be here
A seemingly ordinary day, a few years ago, when I sat in a beautiful garden in warm sunshine, watching my children, grandchildren and dogs messing about playing cricket, chasing each other, laughing,. I remember thinking that life could not be any better than this - everyone I loved was there, and happy.
Oh my goodness, reading everyone’s thoughts of a day they would like to re-live for one reason or another is a real roller coaster of emotions. I am fortunate enough not to have personally endured such heartache as some of you have, nor have I experienced a time in my life of such happiness or ecstasy. Perhaps such things are yet to visit me and I can find strength to endure the bad times and embrace any good ones, I wish the same for everyone.
Urmstongran and jenpax - I too have made some terrible decisions that have altered the course of life. However, we all made our decisions based on what we knew at the time, and thought that what we each chose was the best way to go. I have finally managed to let go of the rage, guilt, and every negative emotion associated with that time, as I refuse to let it destroy any more of my life. I hope you both have managed the same. Hindsight is one very powerful tool.

There was one day when I could have taken a different road, too. I would like to go back to that day. My life could have been very different.
I agree there GSM but I would need to go back knowing what I now know…. And sadly that would never happen I’d probably be the slightly emotionally silly girl I was then…!
Yes, it’s no good going back as that person who would not act differently.
I’ve just read some of the posts and find myself so very sad and emotional. I’ve got so many lovely times I would like to repeat it’s difficult to choose. I cant go back but my memories will be with me forever
The day I had a terrible reaction to something.
The day I saw my first grandchild as a newborn. I fell in love .
The day my parents came to my first flat after I married, I have a picture of them together both laughing. They later divorced after my mother Walked out on my father after 25 years of marriage.
How I envy those whose choice of husband turned out right, because mine didn't - but we are still "married" 52 years later. That said, it hasn't all been bad, just not filled with love and not a lot of support from him. We've had plenty of ups and downs but all of the downs have been borne (and sorted) by me and he has virtually no recollection of them nor appreciation of the effort I made to resolve them. In short, he left all the bad stuff to me, like the five years of emotional effort in supporting our daughter with (and through) bulimia while he carried on his life as normal, not getting involved at all. It was a terribly lonely time for me, basically on my own. And so unfair. Not what I call a partnership. But things improved and said daughter obtained a good degree and job, married a lovely man, and has provided us with two wonderful grandchildren.
Two upcoming things will definitely be major highlights for me - if our second daughter's efforts at IVF are successful (and we might know tonight!!) and if my recent cancer treatment has worked (six weeks before I will know). If both work out I will feel I am the luckiest woman on earth.
It would be the day I sorted out all my Mum’s family photos at her request. Boxes and albums full of them. Photos of myself as a baby and right through school, teenage years, wedding etc. it was fantastic seeing all of us through the years from tiny black and whites to polaroid and colour.
Mum told me to take whatever I wanted but I didn’t because I knew when she passed away they would come to me and I also felt they were still her property.
I copied maybe 10 to my computer and returned all the boxes to her.
Little did I know that when she passed away a family member went in and helped themself to whatever they wanted including our family life in photos over all those years. They also stole items that were left to me in Mum’s Will. The Police didn’t want to know so all the photos I have of my parents and myself total maybe 15. 😢
I’d like to re-live the day I saw Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev dance in Giselle at Covent Garden. There are several events of this type I’d like to experience again.
I think if I could choose just one day it would be a summertime day when my children were still children and life was full of play and giggles and no worries about "life".
Nat King Cole every time
There are some really heart breaking posts on here.
Many days where I wish now I’d made different decisions but, and I’ve expressed this somewhere before, 12 hours from 2 days. Midday to midnight one Christmas Eve when I was a small girl and midnight to midday on Christmas Day when my children were small. If I can beg your indulgence, that is!
