Botox and fillers

I was shocked recently when DD told me she had had Botox and fillers fairly regularly over the past few years. I couldn't believe it. It just feels so wrong to me that a beautiful young woman feels it necessary to pump her face full of toxins. Needless to say we argued and she told me that all women in her age group used them. Is this true? How can I have missed this?

Bluebelle.l did respond to your msg.to me but somehow lost it when l posted so two may appear. Anyhow l wasn't arguing with anyone just giving my perspective as someone whose daughters and myself have experienced having Botox and fillers for many years.l obviously didn't make myself clear when l said it was "unnoticeable ". I meant that it is very natural looking when it is done properly and doesn't stand out like Sharon Osbourne or influencers with big giant lips and frozen faces etc. l was just trying to say that it can look very nice and make a subtle difference but still eliminate deep lines.l gave Kate Middleton as an example. It's just a shame that people most often use the extreme examples like Carol Vorderman etc when thousands upon thousand of people have no more done than Kate Middleton. A few posters have said that they are glad that their grandaughters and daughters
did not feel the need for Botox and fillers. I exempted you Bluebelle when l said that often grandma's and mothers would not be told for the very reason that it would be disapproved of as in the case with the OP. I do not aggree with younger women having procedures that they do not need but we do not know how old the OPs daughter is. As we get older we tend to call 40 year olds young women. As l said it is a personal choice and l respect everyone else's point of view.

I think Meryl Streep has said that she is the only actress in Hollywood who can frowngrin

How do we know that Princess Catherine (she ceased being Kate Middleton when she married) has had work done? Or is this just gossip?

I am indeed judgemental. I judge that it's a daft thing to do and I'm disappointed in her for doing this. I wish she hadn't done this and I wish that I didn't feel like this but she did, and I do.

I for one don't blame you in the slightest for feeling that way. Yes, she is an adult and at the end of the day, it's up to her what she does with her own body (and I would defend her right to do so), but that does not invalidate your feelings on the matter either. I think that, in your shoes, I'd feel the same. She has the the right to have these 'treatments', but you also have the right to feel upset and disappointed at her decision to do so.

I have used oil of Olay since I was early teens. My face looks great, mostly number 11's, but my neck still has the lines and starting to get the turkey neck. Idk what to do about that.

It's not all about our skin. We lose bone as we get older and that affects all our body, face included. My skin is great for my age but it still has lines as I have lost a little bone from the structure and also fat and collagen and tbh topical creams don't change that. It's a natural part of ageing I'm afraid but some people are gifted with a face that holds up better than others, another friend has probably the worst "turkey" neck I've ever seen which is such a shame as she has lovely skin.

What kind of new horror is this? Tattooed foundation injected into the skin which lasts up to six months. I really hope this doesn't become the norm. It's worth reading the article just to see what this is all about.

Semi permanent tattooed foundation

Good grief. Implanting foundation into the skin? It beggars belief.

Didn’t realise Princess Catherine has had ‘work’ done on her face.

I assumed anyone in the public eye has crazyH

Oh - can I inject some rosiness into my cheeks?

I haven’t seen any evidence that she has, just gossip on here from someone who doesn’t name their source.

I've had tattooed brows for 15 years, makes life much easier for a silver haired pale skinned person (pale blonde prior to silver - I've never had much colour).

This is not eyebrows, this is foundation, injected all over the face.

I work with quite a few women in their 30's, and quite often they mention an appointment after work... nails, botox, fillers, lashes, etc.

Gosh, I just hope they have money saved for their kids' education.

You can also have tattooed lips, they call it lip blush and from photos I have seen it doesn’t look too bad. Apparently as well as giving slight colour, for ladies with thin lips makes them look fuller but not the trout pout.

How will these tattooed features look in later life?

I don't know, but I'm happy so far ☺

My daughters, in their 20’s rarely even wear make up, their two lovely girlfriends wear quite a bit of make, but none of them have any Botox, fillers, lips enhanced etc ditto my lovely stepdaughter who has just turned 40!

Cossy Tue 23-Apr-24 15:50:27

However I regularly have my feet and nails done(all my own nails) and my grey hair coloured into a very natural look and I’ve been known to have my eyelashes tinted. I have one tattoo, done in memory of both my parents, (who both hated tattoos!) aged 64! It may not be my last! It’s on my upper right arm and rarely seen unless I’m swimming or in a spa.

I'm afraid my reaction would be to gasp and say something before I could stop myself, Aveline

I'm afraid that I'm all for personal choice in matters such as this.
If you want to do it and have the money to do so - fine!

What does niggle at me is that so many younger people are choosing this and I'm not convinced that's good!
Talking to my son's partner recently about it and she shared with me that 3 people in her office go to 'parties' and get it done there.
These are between 19 and 23.

Aveline Tue 23-Apr-24 16:48:02

Will they all end up like gargoyles in their 70s?
