Disabled Auriol Grey has manslaughter conviction overturned

I bet the old lady’s family are less than happy about that.

We knew it was a shared path, that was covered in the trial. I can see both sides of this story, and I sincerely hope that Auriol Gray understands the tragic consequence of her actions, and stops abusing people from now on.

I would class it as an accidental death.

Am glad her appeal was successful, and I don’t think it should have gone to trial in the first place.There were more humane ways to deal with her.
Tragic all round, the council there should make sure cyclists don’t use the shared path now as I think there were no half and half cyclist/pedestrian markings on it.

I hadn't heard of it before.

I hope that due consideration is given in all circumstances also to the blind and partially sighted. Plus cerebral palsy plus autism is quite a health burden. Of course it is tragic that an innocent person died.

The whole situation was desperately sad, but I did and still do have a lot of sympathy for Auriol Grey. Her conditions would have made her very vulnerable and the cyclist did appear in the video to be on a collision course with her. As I recall even the local authority couldn’t say whether the path was shared use or not, as they couldn’t find the paperwork. But even if there’d been a sign up to that effect, Miss Grey wouldn’t have been able to see it.

Indeed. I am sure we all would in their position but I still think the right decision was made.

I know it’s a different scenario but some pavement traffic goes so fast you are sometimes lucky to have your legs intact. I stepped out of a shop recently and a man on a mobility scooter was racing along the pavement and nearly collided with me.

I personally don’t think any of her illnesses give her the right to be so aggressive I remember watching what happened she was very unfeeling about the whole situation
I m on the fence with this one but if I was the old ladies family I don’t think i d feel as if her death had been acknowledged

I have to look left and right before leaving my front gate.
I am often startled by cyclists on the footpath.
I am a fit 60 year old, if I was older and disabled in any way I’m sure it can be terrifying.
We need an army of street wardens with the powers to stop all this low level crime that causes so much angst.

Sad as it is, the cyclist has to make sure it’s safe to get off of the cycle path before going into the road, being flustered is really no excuse, even though it ended badly.

I can see it from both sides, Ms Grey had many conditions, and I do have sympathy, but another elderly lady died, in part due to her actions. Everyone has the right to be safe.

The real culprit was the council for allowing dual use with no markings, that’s if they really did allow it.

I remember the trial. It concerns me that people who are potentially such a danger to others (as this case proves) are allowed to walk among us unaccompanied. I agree with Kate and rafichagran. The fact that this woman retrieved her shopping after the incident surely shows that she will not learn from what happened or take ownership of her actions.

The way she finds certain situations challenging may point to suggesting she doesn't receive the correct level of support. Hopefully she has been assessed properly whilst in prison. It is just a very sad and complex situation

We can't stop people with disabilities walking amongst us but we can campaign for proper care and support of people. The opposite has been happening and continues to do so because of austerity. 'Locking people away' costs a lot more money than people with disabilities living in their own communities in supported or assisted living arrangements
