We just had a massive thunderstorm with pelting rain, it’s been an on/off showery day and cool.
NannyG4 I hope your husband is readjusting to his circumstances and you are too 💐
Hulahoop shoes on is progress, I wish you well with your surgery and enjoy your young visitors, I’m thinking of soop with her meet up too this weekend.
I’ve a whole chicken in the slow cooker which will be browned in the oven with some spuds later, it should be bbq and salad outside in July 🙁.

Grandmabatty Sun 07-Jul-24 18:12:41

Jaxjacky I love thunder and lightning! We haven't had any here for ages.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 07-Jul-24 18:17:45

Hello kitchen people. OH is watching Emma R doing badly in the tennis so I thought I’d catch up in the kitchen.

There aren’t many Victorian postboxes around, but here’s one without a door which I spotted yesterday. There is one near where I live which is still in use.

OH’s head is still sore. I put a new dressing on it. We went for lunch to a pub in the next village. It took about 20 minutes to get there. Windy, narrow, single track roads, eek. Anyway, lunch was delicious. The landlord and his wife are from Yorkshire not far from where OH grew up. On the way back OH started feeling very car sick. I did my best but the roads are really very bendy indeed. We got back and he had a little lie down. We were supposed to go for a swim but he wasn’t up to it.

Tomorrow should be a better day. We are going to Dartmouth and having a boat trip.

Have a good evening.

Someone once put a model pigeon holding a letter in a post-box like that near us, llfl 😁

Good afternoon kitcheners. I am knackered. Two boys all day and they were rampagious. It's probably not a word, but it describes them. They aren't bad boys, just very energetic. Dgs1 talks all the time and dgs2 has a scream/laugh that goes right through you. We were in the garden for a lot of the day as the weather has been good. Lots of playing with mud, sand, water, cars etc. Then a walk to the swings. Dgs1 changed my living room cushions into a theme park (don't ask)and then the floor was lava so much jumping happened. And food! They are continuously. You would think that they were never fed. 😂 I've dropped them off,and tidied the garden. I'm having a seat before I tackle the house. Have a good evening Kitcheners.
I love them dearly but ...

Ate not are

Jaxjacky Mon 08-Jul-24 17:25:04

Goodness Grandmabatty you must be worn out, I’d be waiting a goodly time to tidy up.
No good weather here, intermittent showers and a warning of heavy rain tonight from 6pm, I’ll take my raincoat for quiz evening.
The phones have been steady all day, but only three lifts to sort, lots of other queries, I had a quick trip to the farm shop and bought some strawberries from a supplier two miles away, I am resisting eating the lot.
Fingers crossed the knee brigade are improving and hopefully Yia and *NannyG4 are coping.

brook2704 Mon 08-Jul-24 19:26:21

Good afternoon kitchen pals, it’s been a dry warm and sunny day here in Inverness, I managed to get the washing dried and quite a bit of gardening done so I’m happy. The meter man has been and changed out smart meter, hopefully it’ll start working now with no ongoing problems
Love the pigeon with the letter Baggs!
A full on day grandmabatty but sounds good, hope you get a well earned rest this evening
I bet the locally grown strawberries taste delicious Jax, much better than the supermarket ones
Hope llfl and others on holiday are having a good time and soop is enjoying her visitors
Thinking of NannyG4 and Yia and hoping Doodle is doing ok too, take care all x

‘Evening All’

Little update. Just popping in to say hello to you all (lovely crew) and to let you know that Himself is going for his final iv chemo tomorrow! It’s been six long months of weekly treatment. His body is more than ready for a break - a few weeks off continuous treatment - but as he gratefully acknowledges “without Christie I wouldn’t be here”. Scan on Sunday. I’m apprehensive already as you can imagine. Results at the end of this month.

I do read your posts. I hope to be back (sometime). Best wishes to you ALL for the summer in the meantime and especial thoughts to those like us, who travel a similar rocky road.
It produces a rollercoaster of emotions that’s for sure. x

Redcar Mon 08-Jul-24 20:47:44

Urms I hope your DH’s chemo goes well tomorrow (if such a thing is possible) and that Sunday’s scan brings good news for you both.
grandmabatty I’m exhausted just reading about your adventures with your DGC. I hope you’ve had a good rest this evening.
I hope llfl has had an enjoyable day,
Best wishes to all those enduring difficult times.

Grandmabatty Mon 08-Jul-24 20:49:05

Urmston best wishes to your DH for tomorrow.

Doodle Mon 08-Jul-24 20:52:25

Urms all best wishes for your DH and his scan results.
NannyG4 hoping your DH is more comfortable in the nursing home now.
Thanks for thinking of me brook .

Grandmadinosaur Mon 08-Jul-24 21:34:21

Sending very best wishes to Urms and Mr Urms
tomorrow and fingers crossed for positive results on Sunday.

brook2704 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:06:15

Lovely to hear from you Urms, well done to your DH for getting through the gruelling chemo treatment, everything crossed that the scan results are good x

Jaxjacky Mon 08-Jul-24 22:21:49

Everything crossed for a good scan result Urms the waiting must be unbearable xx

GrannySomerset Mon 08-Jul-24 22:26:02

Had been thinking about Urms and am so glad that this arduous stage is over. Fingers and everything else crossed now!

dragonfly46 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:31:03

Sending good luck to your DH Urms for his scan. I am due a scan soon and I am already nervous.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 08-Jul-24 22:31:30

Hello kitchen people.

Dear Urms I do hope all goes well with Himself. Would a little holiday to somewhere special be on the cards?

It has rained all day in Devon. Never mind. We went to our favourite fish restaurant in Dartmouth and had a delicious lunch of… fish!

Afterwards we had a trip on the River Dart. OH insisted on sitting outside! I lasted 5 minutes before going back into the cabin.

We spent the evening reading and watching a bit of tennis. I sort of ‘banned’ OH from swimming and said we would go tomorrow. The wound on his head was quite nasty. Not severe enough to see a doctor but in my opinion should be given a few days to heal.

We’re off to a National Trust property tomorrow. I can’t remember the name but I’ll report back tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

Grandmachrisy47 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:36:52

Urms another one with everything crossed for you.

Nannytopsy Mon 08-Jul-24 23:16:47

Best wishes to both Urms! Our gardener didn’t come last week because it was raining. The week before was too hot. I arranged for extra time this week but he didn’t come because he drove past twice and the car wasn’t there. No, because I had a meeting but DH was here waiting for him. He won’t come again tomorrow because it will be raining. I feel like giving up on him but until the knee’s fixed I need someone. Grrr

Grannmarie Mon 08-Jul-24 23:53:54

Hello 👋 Urms, I'm still praying for you and Himself, and for all who need/ wish a wee prayer, for the best possible outcomes. 💕🙏

Hope the Soops had a wonderful time with their visitors and have a few appointment free days to rest and recover !

Thinking of all with worries about the health of loved ones, so many in our special Kitchen. I think we need a wee extension at the back for the Knee Clinic!

Hope Blossoming, Doodle, Baggs and Dusty are doing OK, thinking of YiaYia and NannyG4 . Best wishes to Hula Hoop, Dragonfly and all facing appointments and procedures, hope all goes well.

Ladyleftfieldlover, your poor DOH, hope he feels better soon and you get some sunshine ☀ on your holiday.

Forgive me if I haven't mentioned you by name but I have read all your posts now and I am TOYA.

Grandmabatty, that is a great word for energetic wee boys, perfect!

Brook, you and your DH are a great support to your DD at this time of change, thankfully you are nearby.

I have my leg 'elevated' on the sofa, with a bag of frozen peas on the still sore knee. Physio again tomorrow. Then I'll try to exercise in the pool before Grandpup arrives for her wee holiday while her family are off to sunnier climes...I've arranged some help for walking her cos DH and I are not much use...

I'm rewatching the wonderful My Brilliant Friend on Netflix to refresh my memory for the final season coming soon. Beautifully filmed, sensitively acted adaptation of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan novels. I watched it during lockdown, but I've forgotten so much...I sat up till the wee sma' hours finishing Season 2, and was completely discombobulated all day. Going to bed soon. NNGB.

NannyG4 Tue 09-Jul-24 08:01:24

Wishing you all the best Urms... What a journey. Much love to you and your DH.
I'm sorry I don't mention you all by name but a huge thankyou for your kind words. DH is not settling in nursing home at the moment, how much worse can this journey get?
I had a lovely beach walk yesterday with my coffee which helped me feel calmer.
I wish you all the best day you can have.... Be brave, be strong and dig deep if you have to and of course smell the roses 🌹🌹....
Fondest love 💞

dragonfly46 Tue 09-Jul-24 08:10:10

NannyG4 flowers

kittylester Tue 09-Jul-24 08:12:38

I'm popping in to send huge love and best wishes to the urms.

And sending strength to NannyG4.

We have a busy day ahead. The most exciting part is seeing Persie's end of junior school play. And then recovering from the fact that she is 11 now.

Naughtyneine Tue 09-Jul-24 09:08:56

Lots and lots of good wishes for the last chemo today to Mr Urms and a big hug for Urms. Prayers doubled too for a good result from the scan.
