When did you last meet somebody new?

I remember, many years ago when I was a stay at home mum, moaning to the Bodach that I couldn’t remember when I last met somebody new. That all changed when the children were grown, and I went back ‘into the world’, but now I find I seldom meet new people.
Yesterday I met my new neighbours’ daughter, which made me think of how rare it is that I meet new people. How about you?

Have no chance of meeting new people after moving. 2 neighbours have a quick chat but the rest do not seem interested in someone old & wandering about on a stick when outside. Does get lonely but I do have my cat so trying to understand what he is meowing about 😹

I met two new people last Saturday at a karate event. They plan to train with us regularly.

When I joined aquafit at my local leisure centre. What a gorgeous group of ladies there are there. They have really made me feel part of the team smile

I have met 2 nice ladies at the keep fit. I had coffee with them and they have been best friends for years. I feel a little as if I'm intruding even though both have given me their numbers.Im a bit shy.

Try U3A -if there is one in your area , line dancing , knitting , learning Ukelele , go to a class , church coffee and ladies group ? I last met two friends about 6 weeks ago and they have become good friends already -I just got chatting to them at a concert .

Day before yesterday! Went to a club meeting and got chatting to a member I hadn't seen before

A few months ago I felt I needed to meet some new people as my social life was practically non-existent outside the family and a few old friends.

I made enquiries about NWR after reading a post on here and was all set to start a local group myself as we didn't have one in my town.

In the weeks afterwards I began to get messages and phone calls from old friends wanting to meet up, some of whom I haven't seen since well before Covid.

Since having quite a few meet-ups I realised that I didn't need any new people- the old ones are good enough and it is great to be back in touch. They all sought me out too, so that gave me a much needed confidence boost!

So sorry NWR I don't need to meet new people after all!

I dropped into a Greggs for a quick coffee last week and a lone man at the next table chatted to me. About an hour later, he approached me as I waited for the bus, and told me that he’s there most days!

I meet new people all the time as I have a small campervan and go to meets all over the place, it's fabulous and so lovely to meet new people as well as regular ones.

Someone stopped me in the street once and said how lovely it had been to meet up for coffee the previous week and have a good old catch-up.

I'd never seen her before in my life.

Someone passed me in the street near where I live the other day said hello Using my name and I had no idea who she was. Still don’t.
Luckily we were walking in opposite directions and I was with someone so didn’t need to stop.

I met an elderly gentleman in the park a while ago, who is quite convinced he knows me very well! I probably look similar to a previous colleague or family member.
After asking where I now live, (a good 200 yds) he now drops in for a chat & a cuppa every month!
He is great company, we have a laugh & put the world to rights but I am still wondering how to find out his name, so he doesn't twig that we are not old friends and become embarrassed!

This lunchtime in a cafe. They asked if they could share our table.
We had a nice chat about holidays. Probably never see them again.

Oops! Sorry I’ve posted this again. 😄

Lovemylife

Summerfly I belong to National Women’s Register too, and it was indeed National Housewives Register many years ago. I’ve made so many friends through our local group. Someone new came today so chatted to her. We talk about anything and everything!

Thanks lovemylife and Aldom. I’ll have to look into finding one in my area.

I meet new people quite often. I find it hard to remember them the next time we meet and wonder if it's an age thing.
It's embarrassing. Today I met 2 women in the street who stopped me for a chat and I couldn't tell you how I know them.

Yesterday I met 4 people who came to look around my house as they were very interested in the previous inhabitants! They stayed for an hour or more and I would know them again. I think
They seemed very nice.

It’s a good question OP and made me think. The people I see regularly, or work with or socialise with or neighbours, are all people I’ve known for years.I can’t think of a single new person.

Greyduster Tue 25-Jun-24 16:21:00

Oh, and a new chap came to our writers group last week. Not sure if he’ll come again - we may have frightened him off😂!
