Feeling adrift

Just looking for some tips on how to adjust to having nothing to do. So we're pensioners now. OH is still fairly active and I'm not. Plus he's actually working part time. We're in the unusual situation of having a grandchild living with us (almost an adult now) - he does his own thing a lot.

As the post says, I feel a bit adrift. Both my own parents died in the past four years - prior to that I was chasing around looking after everyone - ageing parents, child. Now I'm not really needed in that way. I keep occupied with fairly sedentary things, but can't do gardening any more due to mobility issues.

I want to move - we're thinking about it - so at least the location is slightly better, but I'm imagining that and thinking - once moved I'd be in the same situation. I just feel a bit stuck at home.

I don't feel old yet but not very fit either. I suppose socially we lost our way a bit since the pandemic. But nothing sort of appeals particularly. Any tips?

gentleshores I am glad that Stanmore had useful advice on the website.
Just one last point - about being dismissed by doctors - this seems to be common. It’s not just you I promise….

Thank you. I spent years pushing for all sorts for my parents over medical issues. Somehow it seems harder to do it for myself.

I am in a small town and 2 years ago joined a writing group in my local library. It's free. I knew no one but was welcomed with warm open arms. There are about 9 of us ladies though gents are welcome, sometimes just 4. We meet every Tuesday 12.30 - 2.30 and chat as much as we write. The topics give voice to varied discussions. Sometimes we go for coffee afterwards. They are all now friends and I also now know all of the library staff very well. I'd never written before. It's fun. No pressure. See what your library has to offer. Ours also has the usual knit and matter plus others.
