Merseyside Police have just issued a statement about the clashes in Southport:
"At around 7.45pm, a large group of people – believed to be supporters of the English Defence League – began to throw items towards a local mosque on St Luke’s Road in Southport.
"Officers who are deployed are currently dealing with criminal behaviour and violence with bottles and wheelie bins being thrown at them."
"As a result, an officer has suffered a suspected broken nose and police vehicles have been damaged and set alight.
"Additional patrols are now in attendance, including the Dog Section."

Disrespectful idiots is too kind a term, how could they do that in such circumstances.

They may be but they didnt shoot children so I cant be as angry at them as I am at him.

I find it very easy to be very angry at both Galaxy, those poor families are going through hell, and mindless thugs seizing an opportunity to create a riot is the last thing they needed tonight I’m sure.

I hadn’t seen this news about the EDL using these horrific murders and attempted murders to try and inflame racial tensions. As if the families, friends and wider communities aren’t suffering enough.
Yet again, police under attack. It’s hard not to feel despair then anger. Let’s hope no more police are injured, order is restored and these thugs arrested and charged.

Watching all those people in Southport at the vigil I said it was a reminder that there are more good people in this country than wicked.

Thoughts are with their families and those still in hospital, hoping they will recover.

The photos of those happy little girls and the thought of them being so excited to go to a dance workshop in their school holidays is just heartbreaking. 😥

I was out shopping today and an elderly gent told me the third little girl had died. Just terrible.

Just watching the riots. They also shouted at Starmer.

It’s being said that there should be info out by now about the individual to stop people surmising.

The photos shown on the BBC web page tonight were heartbreaking; three little darlings, smiling and happy, with their whole lives in front of them, and the summer holidays just starting. This and the terrible crossbow killings of a few weeks ago - what is wrong with people?

I don't know why there has been a rise in these individual attacks - but I wish we did in order to address them.

The attack was horrific and so is the behaviour of the rioters, who should be ashamed of themselves.
Attempting to incite racial tension is not helpful at all.
Those thugs aren’t scared, they’re just out to cause trouble - they have no respect for the dreadful loss of the bereaved families, but are using the event as an opportunity to try to spread and feed hatred. Shameful.

My little granddaughter, ten years old, is a Taylor Swift fan. She adores everything about Taylor Swift, she is a Swiftie. These little girls would have been the same. It makes my heart hurt thinking of these similarities.

My heart goes out to these dear little girls and their families at this incomprehensible attack and murder.
I pray the wounded will make full recoveries.
It's impossible to comprehend why anyone would possibly want to attack innocent children.

Heartbreaking indeed, innocent little girls dancing ,enjoying the party and their family's lives ruined for what...what reason could anyone possibly have to commit such a violent act on children. and yes Ziplok, I agree an excuse for the rioters.
