Am very aware that this has been requested...But, am sure it is relatively easy to add this option....
I'm becoming very irritable at reading posts that quote several posters prior comments .. maybe its the general mood of the moment, but my patience is dwindling to read copious posts..hope I've not offended anyone heresmile

I think your post will have many GN's nodding their heads. Me, for one. We can put a man on the moon but GN HQ cannot add 'like' buttons etc to posts.

Please please dont.

Oreo Tue 06-Aug-24 13:07:31

I second the please please don’t.
All it will achieve is a virtual pile on of likes drowning out the comments.
There are many other ways to show you agree with a comment.

Easiest way is for posters not to copy down the post the poster posted. I have had to read my own words before I get to what the poster wanted to say about my post . I know what I wrote that's why I wrote it . I hate having my own words quoted back at me especially if someone likes what I wrote. If they liked it or I helped then just say I liked you post. Or if you didn't just say you disagree. But I only write about things I have experienced. I don't talk about things I don't know about.

No thanks. Better to comment on posts giving a different point of view or show how you agree. Like or dislike mean very little.

I wish they would, like most sites but there is strong opposition here, sadly. It would be so nice to be able to at least thank people. Perhaps just put a smiley after the posts ?

😀

Smileys’ are good- I take your points about others opinions above but it’s clunky and IMO perhaps loses the appeal of the main thread 🤔

Bea65 Tue 06-Aug-24 13:52:37

Or, an Agree or disagree.. 🤔

rafichagran Tue 06-Aug-24 13:56:20

Have a like but not a dislike button.

Wyllow3 Tue 06-Aug-24 14:16:29

smileys are handy and actually more subtle.

On another board (completely unrelated to GN) it became a "thing" like popularity contest to collect "likes". The end result was people afraid to post because they couldn't collect "likes". Then people started discussing who got lots of "likes"

💁

[Wyllow3] thought maybe GNs would be above the Likey Likey culture 🤔 maybe they are not Real GNs🤔trolls are just pervading a lot of forums- I’ve answered privately to a few GNs who asked/commented on posts so it’s inclusive and another helpful option 🤞

Marydoll Tue 06-Aug-24 15:44:42

Absolutely not!

I fear it will descend into a popularity contest or even worse, the opposite.

Bea65 Tue 06-Aug-24 16:13:28

Do u have Nextdoor forum on your platform of forums - it’s so so much easier to comment/support ideas and opinions.. really don’t see why this platform is behind the times- as someone with actual physical touch disabilities on keyboards- other media platforms R easier to follow 😊

Chestnut Tue 06-Aug-24 16:21:40

What is wrong with a simple AGREE button to show you agree with the comment. If anyone wants to add something they can just write another post. I often see posts I simply want to say 'I agree with that' and nothing more. All this nonsense about popularity contests is irrelevant.

JenniferEccles Tue 06-Aug-24 16:37:07

I’m not keen on this idea.

Putting ‘like’ after a person’s post sounds a bit teenagery to me.

Have you tried using the microphone symbol to type your posts.

Isn't part of quoting a post so that your reply makes sense to others too? When I see a post that says " Bunnykins I agree with every word" I can't always (or even often) remember what Bunnykins had to say and sometimes would need to scroll back for pages to find the relevant post.

I always do that petra It saves me loads of time when answering posts or WhatsApp messages or emails, but checking what you said against what is written on the page is really important. It sometimes writes words I would never use.

Millie22 Tue 06-Aug-24 18:58:58

I really don't like the quote thingy. Reading lots of the same posts over and over again I just get fed up tbh.

BlueBelle Tue 06-Aug-24 19:15:35

I agree Milly sometimes you get three or even four quotes within a post takes up so much room

fancythat Tue 06-Aug-24 20:31:47

Is there a difference between people reading posts on a computer/tablet, and those reading them on phones.

Personally, on a computer, I dont have a problem with reading 4 replies to a post.

Mollygo Tue 06-Aug-24 22:08:43

I can just imagine what would happen with a like button. Would clicking on it show who has ‘liked’ a post or would it be anonymous?
I’d rather read the posts/reposts.
