How to break with hairdresser?

Nottalking about colour JaneJudge- just cut and blow. Colour is always expensive (and how glad I am I have accepted my salt and pepper look).

Cut and Finish is £60 for me. When I have my full colours done it's £140 including the cut and finish, with the root touch ups at £90.

I did the silly thing of totting it up for the year a few weeks ago and I'm just now debating looking for something slightly less expensive !

I do agree that you have to be honest. Make it clear that you are not asking for a discount, however she may prefer to offer one rather than lose you. Treat it initially as a problem to be discussed rather than a 'break up'.

This sounds like a huge amount to me but so do most of the prices quoted. Like Pamela70, I wonder if you can re-jig what you have done.
I always have a wet cut - I am allergic to so many hair products - it's easier to use my own and go with wet hair than to take my products with me.

I am also astounded by how many older women colour their hair - could you try to see what it might look like 'nude'?

Nanarose I m with you all the way I m lucky that my very fair hair has gone a very pale ash blonde in old age so I ve never had my hair coloured I have a simple pixie cut which I have every 5 weeks so that’s a wash, cut, blow dry with mousse and spray £18 that’s way enough for me So I mon that planet with you

I pay £47 for a trim and blow dry. I’ve been growing it so extended the time between to 8 weeks. Now it’s where I want it I’ll go back to 6 weeks.
My stylist left in the spring and I now have the salon owner who’s much more cheerful and entertaining.

‘Sorry, but I just can’t afford your charges any more.’

I wish I could have used that excuse when I stopped using the hairdresser I’d used for donkeys’ years - because she was just down the road and I could always get an appointment quickly.

But she really wasn’t very good! I see her now and then, she waves when I have to walk past the salon, but I haven’t actually spoken to her, so maybe I’ll never have to tell her the truth.

TBH, since the place has been going for so long but is never busy, I’ve come to suspect that it’s a money-laundering front for her dh’s business.

Regarding hair colour, I'm waiting for the white to take over the mousy fair and then I will embrace my new look and ditch the colouring. Until then, my hair appointments continue. I cut down on " finish" and just have cut and colour.
My hair " finished" looks like a wig.

EllaMary worked out that it came to £11.50 a week it doesn’t mean she has it cut every week Bea if she has it cut monthly which most people do then she’s paying £46 a hair cut

A cut would be approximately £46-50 and a trim around £30 which I have maybe 6-8 wks just depending on my mood and how my hair is behaving or misbehaving in this humidity —- I hope OP considers the value of her present stylist as looking for a new salon or stylist cheaper can be hit or miss

I lve in a small town and my hairdresser charges £30 for a cut and blow dry. I go every 6 weeks bur grudge the price.I tried going elsewhere when she was on holiday but it was only a few pounds less .

£30 seems fair. Quite shocked that many of you pay a lot more than I do, in France, or even in Switzerland.

My lovely hairdresser is mobile and visits my home. She does a colour/trim for me, a trim for Mr Stardust and charges me £25. I dry my curly hair naturally so there are no blow dry costs. I'm in Yorkshire. No way would I pay some of the charges mentioned!

Pensioners price for me, just a cut sixteen pounds fifty!

I love this idea! - though it's a bit scary!

Cut and blow dry every 6 weeks is £45 fir me and 4 times a year my colour is £80.

To be honest, it would be about the last 'luxury' I would do without.

Be honest and tell the the truth.
I think I would phone round first to see what others are charging and ask if they do a pensioners discount. Some do.
Not knowing your age, have you asked your present hairdresser if she does a discount for over 60's.

Where I live some of the hairdressers do special pensioner days and some pensioners go to the local further education college where they train hairdressers. A friend of mine with very curly hair always comes away looking very good.

Having a good hairdresser to me is important and if you went to someone else who was less expensive but not happy how would you feel.

I have had the same hairdresser for over 20 years. He is expensive but I enjoy going to him and he cuts and colours and finishes it well. I always come out feeling happy and relaxed after a good chat catching up on all his and my news. Plus I get a good coffee, soft drinks and biscuits. I so look forward to my visit every 7 to 8 weeks. I pay £115 for the colour, cut and blow dry. I would cut back on other things but not my hair do!!

I’ve got bleached blonde hair and have my roots done every six weeks with a trim. My hairdresser comes to my house and trims my sons hair too. It costs £73 for both of us.

I pay £42.50 for an excellent cut, I have very short hair so it is really only maintenance. My hairdresser comes to me every 3-4 weeks. She is very skilled and does exactly what I ask.
