Soop's kitchen for kind and caring folk...
(1001 Posts)Welcome!
Thank you for all your support, especially of late. I greatly appreciate your patience. You are truly the best.
Buffet is open. For those who enjoy a glass of bubbly, there is plenty in the chill cabinet.
Enjoy!
I must away for a wee while. I shall catch up later.
Happy Birthday Yiayia4! I’ve just caught up on the last couple of days’ posts and saw your previous photos. DH and I stayed in Shanklin a few weeks ago, at the Clifton Hotel. Our view was very similar to yours, it’s a lovely spot. Among our trips was to the botanical gardens and loved watching the red squirrels playing chase.
Best wishes to Soop , FGT and all on this lovely thread.
Grannyme6 A very warm welcome to the kitchen.
Thank you Soop. 😊
Dear corner, I am sending you healing vibes.
A group hug for nannyG4 and Doodle together with all our Kitcheners in need of comfort.
Also, warm welcomes to a few newbies in our kitchen. You are in a good place. It is here that we celebrate and commiserate.
I must away. Please take very good care of yourselves. You are special.

Good afternoon/ evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰 The street lights are on already, the nights are fair drawing in! I have the lamps and the fairylights on, background music from Greatest Hits Radio 60s 🎶, (my favourite era), nice and cosy!
Many happy returns, 🍷 🎂, YiaYia, enjoy your holiday, thank you for your super photos.
Happy anniversary, Jaxjacky and MrJ, beautiful roses!🌹
Grandmabatty, I wish I had some of your energy! You've had a very productive weekend. Glad your Mum was able to chat a bit.
brook, I hope your husband's leg improves soon, sounds painful! I'm sure your DGC appreciate your cuddles and support, thank goodness you are physically and emotionally very close to your DD at this time.
Doodle and NannyG4, thinking of you both, and all with sorrow. In the Catholic tradition, the month of November is dedicated to the prayerful remembrance of our departed loved ones. My sisters and I attended the annual Blessing of the Graves ceremony yesterday at the nearby cemetery where our grandparents, aunt, parents and brother are all buried. Very moving hymns and Rosary, then we visited and tended to the graves. I'll need to contact the monumental sculptor about renewing the lettering on our grandparents' headstone, it's quite faint now.
Today I returned to the pool to restart my physio exercises after an absence of a few weeks. I think it's helping, but I have been neglecting regular exercise lately. Our Blossoming was always so disciplined with her exercise routine, a good example to me! I hope she and MrB are doing OK.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening, good luck for your quiz night, Jaxjacky 🤞, I'll participate in the TV 📺 quizzes, if I can! 🤣 My memory is mush these days!

Happy Anniversary Jax...
I'm so pleased that's there has been good news for you Soop and Mr Soop...it was worth the 300 mile trip. Well done Mr S and Happy Birthday too. Hopefully the fish and chips was up to scratch as well.
Yia...enjoy your break and fingers crossed the weather brightens up for you and Mr Y.
LlFL.I found a lovely piece about the tradition of 'telling the bees'. I wondered if you and OH might like to read it.
Corner...I feel for you re sleep. I hate those nights where you wake way to early and then wan to to drift back off just before it's time to get up. It normally happens to me when I've got a tricky project at work the next day.
GrandmaB...lime curd... That's a new one... I'll be on the look out for them.
It's been an eventful 24 hours.... I'll post my description of the latest foray in Henrietta Moho later.
That bee article sounds interesting. I know bees have to be told about births and deaths, but I don’t know about other things.
🎂🍾💐 Yiayia4
A very Happy Birthday to you Yia 🥳🎂 🥂have a lovely evening.
I have acquired a stonking cold, it was brewing over the weekend and here it is in its eye watering, nose dripping, coughing glory. No quiz for me tonight, I would not be at all popular, MrJ will go and tell me later how well he did🤣🤣
I’ll be thinking of you tonight NannyG4 as you, Doodle and others tread that bumpy path of unknown sadness ❤️
Hello again kitchen people.
Our cleaner came this morning and cleaned beautifully. Her only fault - and it isn’t really a fault - is that when she dusts my multitude of pictures, she manages to knock them skew-if!
I should have been seeing a friend this afternoon but she is helping her sister in law sort her new bungalow out. So, I got on with some WI admin. We have a committee meeting on Wednesday.
Have a good rest of the day everyone, especially those of you with heartache.🌹
Grannyme6 welcome to the kitchen. We are staying in The Luccombe Hall Hotel. The gardens are very near here.
Best Wishes for a Happy Birthday Yiayia, enjoy your special day & your holiday.

Warm thoughts for you all in soop's cosy kitchen. x
I'm mostly in the quiet corner, but like to keep in touch.
I'm feeling "under par" just now.

A very happy birthday Yiayia. I hope you have a lovely time. Neine I make my own lime curd. It's surprisingly easy.
Today has been fine. Dgs2 has had a bit of a dodgy tummy but otherwise good. We've had no tantrums so I'm hoping he's growing out of them. Dgs1 had a good day at school. I've managed to tidy up a bit and I'll get my lasagne in the oven soon. A quiet night and early bed ahead. Take care all
Happy BirthdayYiaYia 🎂🥂🎊

Many happy returns Yiayia have a lovely day.
Thanks to all for your good wishes. I was so tired after yesterday’s service I didn’t get up till 9 this morning but am almost asleep again now. Off to bed soon I think. Take care all
LlFL...here it is.
The custom of "telling the bees" is a charming and ancient tradition where beekeepers inform their bees about significant events in their lives, such as deaths, births, marriages, and other major occurrences. This practice is believed to have its roots in Celtic mythology, where bees were seen as messengers between the human world and the spirit world. The presence of a bee after a death was thought to signify the soul leaving the body. The tradition became particularly prominent in the 18th and 19th centuries in Western Europe and the United States.
To tell the bees, the head of the household or the "goodwife" would approach the hives, gently knock to get the bees' attention, and then softly murmur the news in a solemn tone. This ritual was believed to keep the bees informed and prevent them from leaving the hive or dying. The custom underscores the deep connection and respect that people historically had for bees, viewing them as integral members of the household and community.
Happy Birthday Yia...I hope you've had a wonderful day.
I hope it’s not too late to wish you a Happy Birthday yiayia, I hope you had a good day and that you enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Interesting about the bees neine, I had no idea!
grandmabatty I hope that your Dgs2 is growing out of his tantrums, they can be very trying! My Dgd4 is just coming up to two and has started practising for the terrible twos already. She has a big sister to copy from, she still has a tantrum now and then, and being bigger has a louder voice!
Saw the podiatrist today, so my toenails look nice and tidy. I made a cake this afternoon, so I’ve left some in the kitchen, it’s a coffee cake with chocolate drops in.
Yet another visit to hospital tomorrow afternoon for a blood test, last visit before my operation on Friday (I think hospitals call them ‘procedures’ instead of operations these days!).
Thoughts to all who are anxious or struggling.
Night night.
Wow neine. A custom I had no knowledge of and somehow think I should. Thanks for the explanation.
Would you believe we’ve spent a good part of the day looking at - kettles. After years of overwork the switch on ours had become temperamental. Thought best replace it before friends come to stay next month, it would frustrate them more than it does us. We researched and searched and then bought - the same kettle with some updated tweaks to the look.
. A break saw us having an interesting chat over our lunch with two women on a coach trip, later a free coffee courtesy of M&S vouchers was as ever pleasing. All in all a good day, although we won’t dare tell the family the kettle saga, we’d never hear the last of it.
Dentist tomorrow. I can feel the anxiety building. Neither of us are confident in his ability, his ‘bedside manner’ also leaves a lot to be desired. I’m a very nervous patient and I know will be shaking by the time we get there. After hanging on to NHS dentistry depending on his assessment we’re thinking it may be time to take a deep breath and move to a private dentist. Oh heck. No more new kettles for us
.
Good to see you grannyme6. I’m sure you’ve had a super day yia. Did I wish you a happy birthday already? If not please accept greetings now, very late I know. One day I’ll get to the kitchen earlier - just not today.
Hope you’re back to yourself soon gillgran. Thinking of doodle and nannyg4
. Get better wishes jax, colds are indeed foul.
Sleep well everyone. Night night.
Thank you NaughtyN!
Belated happy birthdays to MrS and Yiayia, and happy anniversary to the Jaxes.
We are still getting jobs done - some of the kitchen drawers today.
Time for bed
NNGB
Redcar thank you. He's better than he was, although this morning we had throwing things and hitting grandma because she wouldn't do his bidding 😂. He's tired today because of late night fireworks where he lives. His big brother was also tired. There may be a nap happening later.
Grandmab a nap sounds like a very good idea
