Good Morning Saturday 16th November 2024

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry and seems mild enough. The trees are bending anyway. All is still and quiet yet in this town centre.

We are going over to see the Boy Wonder and L’il Miss this afternoon taking ‘holiday presents’. We’ve been asked to mind them for a couple of hours while their parents go off to Media City to do some Christmas shopping. Also our 19 year old car goes in for its MOT and service today.

Sad to hear people bemoaning the fact that they are getting older. Yes, it brings its challenges but I think my Mu would have liked to have had the chance. She never got to enjoy any retirement with Dad or see her Grandchildren grow up.
Today we shall be picking up our eldest Grandson and taking him for lunch We will visit his two little cousins and then decide what to do for the rest of the day.

Good morning from a grey Cambridgeshire. Today DGD2 is doing her ballet dance medal, this is her first one and her tutu is very pretty. She is very nervous and I hope she will be okay. Tomorrow is tap & modern dance medals so a big weekend for her and unfortunately she has an awful cold but wants to carry on and will be well dosed up.
Nothing much else going on here. I seem to have lost my get up and go at the moment. I do feel guilty when I read the threads of some of you highly motivated and busy grans. I need to give myself a talking to.

I've had a good night's sleep for once and my shoulder shows improvements.
I'm off out shortly for the newspaper and some fresh veggies so only a quick skim of your posts so far. I did notice Greyduster' s cat problem. I've had this. My remedy has been curry powder! Just scatter some over the area you've cleaned. It will no doubt use other areas of the lawn for maybe a few days but, in my case, the creature soon got the message. I guess it will be back one day when the experience has faded from memory so I keep a cheap tub handy. Worth a try I guess.

Need to tidy front garden as I think this week is last garden waste collection of the year.

Good morning from a dull and grey Black Country.

Didn't wake up until 8.15, although awake around 4am I must have gone back sleep.

Busy day yesterday. Mum and I went to the Memory cafe, where we won the raffle again. Mum was asked to pick the first ticket out, which happened to be one of our numbers!. We had the pick of 3 prizes, I chose the M & S tin of Shortbread, as didn't fancy any of the other 2 prices of ticket to shows, and I knew Mum would enjoy the biscuits.

Then I took her to Spec Savers to ask if they could change the tubes in her hearing aid. But that really didn't make any difference to her plummeting lack of hearing (to be expected I suppose at nearly 95) They did say she had an infection in her left ear and for her to see a Doctor. So a job for Monday, as I couldn't get through Friday afternoon.

No real plans today except housework!

Good morning al from Severnside. It’s dry but dreary looking.

I haven’t made up my mind what to do today. It’s a toss up between B&M and a garden centre, a craft fair or to stay home and do something useful. My car is filthy but I want to leave that for just before I have it serviced for which I must make an appointment.

A blank day ahead so I must find something useful to do, however trivial. Distinctly colder this morning so whatever I do will need to be indoors. Am very worried about my dear neighbour; her lovely husband is dying in a not very local hospice, and she and her daughter do not get on; the situation is impossible for them all and I really don’t know how to help without becoming over-involved. A 60 year personality clash is not going to be solved and so nobody can be happy.

Good morning from Durham. Another fine, bright day, but temperatures are definitely dropping.
I’ll walk Little Dog early, then I’m taking him home to DD2 as I’m picking up DGS1 for an overnight stay - he’s not fond of dogs. I’ll also need a quick scoot around his local Morrisons to get his favourite foods - that boy is a picky eater.
Just a quiet night in with him.

Attended another recital yesterday but monthly rather than my usual weekly. Poor turnout, but a nice programme in a handsome church.

Later Dsister arrived from the south and we had lasagne and sponge pudding followed by lots of chat.
Not sure what we will do today.

Good morning from a bright, crisp looking County Durham.
Back home again after our travels.
Rufford Old Hall was such an interesting place to visit.
I fully expected to hear the Hesketh family having links to slavery, being so close to Liverpool, but no. Apparently they were very good at finding weathy women to marry, bringing greater fortune and land to them. One American heiress brought a dowry of over 2 million in the 1800's.
According to one of the guides they preferred to find easier ways of making money than dabbling in trade.
Lovely to hear what you busy people are doing today. Take care to find time to relax too.
I'm as guilty as most at the thought of aging. I try to remember my two sisters who had their lives cut short, one in her teens and and the other mid thirties and attempt to feel gratitude for the life I have. Not always easy, especially for those lonely or suffering from illness.

Morning from a south Lanarkshire, cold but bright. I’m posting before reading today as 12 year old DGD5 has just been dropped off by her dad to spend the weekend with me, so happy about that.

Just wanted to say I was glad to read yesterday Susan that your mum seems to be quite well settled, it must be such a relief.

Also to sympathise with BlueSapphire, what a sad happening in her community. Also in Ash’s group, I have been hearing about a shocking number of ‘young’ middle age people becoming seriously ill recently.

Good morning from a cloudy Northampton.

Still reeling from the shock of my next-door neighbour's sudden and unexpected death on Thursday. I haven't seen her husband yet, but I have a card to put through the letter box on my way out this morning. His eldest daughter is staying with him and his wife's sister is coming today.
He was most insistent that all neighbours went ahead with our Close's annual Christmas dinner which was booked for last night, but it was a more subdued affair than normal. We raised a glass in memory of Chris.

Yesterday was an early trip to the surgery for my RSV vaccination. Then I had a coffee in the village cafe before my three dance classes.

Our to the shops this morning then will take it easy for the rest of the day.

A late morning from South Lanarkshire, it’s cold and still outside.

We had a more relaxed than usual day at DS’s yesterday as DoutL’ s mum is staying with them for a while which meant that she was able to look after the littlest leaving DH and I free to see to the other two.
We collected them from nursery and school at lunchtime when all Edinburgh schools finish on Fridays then headed to the beach to give daft dog a good run. A picnic lunch afterwards went down well then I took the four year old to her dance class where I stayed to watch. The half dozen little girls were very sweet. DH went back to the beach and play park with the eldest then picked us up.
A most enjoyable day made all the better by not having to leave home before dawn as we usually do.

Not much planned for today other than to pop into a local restaurant to buy a gift voucher or our lovely young neighbours who have just got married abroad, I think they’ll be home later today.

Good morning all. The rain has stopped and partial blue skies hopefully mean a brighter day in Glasgow.

A late start for me as my sleep pattern is still a bit of a hit or miss for a full nights sleep. I have sleeping pills at hand which I reluctantly take occasionally due to the unpleasant foggy head feeling the next morning.

I so agree with keeping busy, my mantra whenever I have a troubled mind. Luckily I don’t have any health issues to stop me doing so.

Waitrose visit after which my therapeutic pastime of spending as much time as possible gardening.

I hope there are no troubling results for your SiL Marydoll🤞

My thoughts are with all going through difficult times whether health issues or sadness.

Woke up feeling a bit off have dragged myself into the shower and then a quick(ish) dash round Aldi, I could t face the Farm Shop.

There are some nasty bugs going round the schools here, and I think one of the darling GC has gifted me one 🤣
