Harry and Meghan. UK Visit.

Just been reading about H&M’s forthcoming proposed visit to the UK with their children, pertaining to the Invictus Games which are due to take place next year.

Apparently, it’s a private visit, and accommodation has been offered to them on a ‘Royal estate’, but no mention of where or if it’s been accepted.

Security issues not revealed, plus whether or not it involves meeting up with the King.

We shall wait and see how it all evolves.

Harry and family (or not) were offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace but he failed to either accept or refuse until the intervention expired. He then claimed they were refusing to house him; the Palace and possibly the King said he had left it too late for all the preparations to be made for a stay, more about staff and security than having some clean sheets and a new cake of soap.
Simple bad manners in refusing to make a decision, just as he behaved when the late Queen invited him and family for Christmas and had to telephone to discover whether he was coming or not; he declined.
More publicity fodder, and I am as bad as everyone else in feeding his attention-seeking tactics.
A Poor Type, allowing his obsession with shaming his father while ignoring his own poor decisions to dominate his otherwise aimless existence.

For all we know, Meghan and the children could already be here hiding out in a remote ‘cottage’ on one of the royal estates. All the attention is on Harry making a song and dance about it all.

Cannot imagine Meghan ‘hiding out in a remote cottage on one of the royal estates’.

Nottingham Cottage was far too cramped and poky for her to live in with Harry. And I don’t think a cloak and dagger stay would suit Duchess Meghan.

No, despite all the ‘security risks’, Meg would want to be front and centre of everything, pushing Harry aside and being centre stage.

Can’t you picture her stepping off some private jet, (paid for by some rich mate), head down, dark glasses on, but making sure she would hit the headlines?

From personal staff, to airport staff, to air staff, to private security staff and all Uncle Tom Cobley's in between, there is no way his wife and children would be here without someone leaking. Because apart from anything else, the money the tabloids would pay an informant for intel like that would be phenomenal.

I believe their antics and constant quest for publicity, sympathy and validation are what my Mum would have said, - all getting a bit tiresome now.

And the children with paper bags over their heads to hide their faces!

Harry being refused Buckingham Palace because he declined then changed his mind and then accepted, therefore messing people around, is a good example of not letting your estranged child have everything their way, regardless of whether you're desperate to see their children or not.

The king is determined to avoid the ‘half in, half out’ life that H&M clearly wanted.

If they have full royal protection whenever they choose to visit there is nothing to stop them popping in and out for events that are good for their PR. The late queen was not going to allow that and neither is the king.

William would go up in smoke!!

Now, I am no fan of this pair, but there are so many things quoted on social media which people don’t back up or check, that then become accepted as fact.
May I ask, when did Harry ‘claim they had refused to house him’?

Just looked this up, Daddima
It was his team that said the "offer had been withdrawn"

He didn't accept the invitation in time, so the invitation was with drawn.

Harry and his team would have been fully aware of what was required of him when the invitation was made but I suppose it's easier to put a negative spin on not being able to stay at Buck. Palace than if he'd accepted in time and stayed there.

Aveline Tue 07-Jul-26 14:26:52

Who exactly are 'his team'? His PR?

I think this just about sums it up, thankyou merlotgran.

How does anyone know what the king is "determined" to do grin

merlotgran Tue 07-Jul-26 17:07:31

Statements from the palace have been issued ever since ‘Megxit.’ The Queen vetoed the half in, half out approach and the King seems to be even more firm on the matter.
When the palace issues a statement I tend to believe it.

Aveline Tue 07-Jul-26 17:23:45

I believe it too. Harry's though?

eazybee Wed 08-Jul-26 07:29:32

How does anyone know what the king is "determined" to do?

By his actions, which are consistent.

David49 Wed 08-Jul-26 07:44:55

Determined.

There is no way Charles would want a repeat of the Australia debacle. Harry was told "straight" you are welcome to come on a private visit, there will be no media circus and no state security. He may also have threatened to remove the Duke and Duchess titles if the scandalmongering continues.

Aldom Wed 08-Jul-26 08:18:59

Why do people refer to the king as Charles?
I doubt anyone would have referred to the late queen as Elizabeth.

MarieElla Wed 08-Jul-26 08:19:41

There's only so much a parent can take and Harry has pushed and pushed KC with all his demands, tantrums and drama..

Aveline Wed 08-Jul-26 08:39:27

You'd think they might venture a quiet visit when the King is at Balmoral later this summer. But, of course, a quiet visit is not what they want.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Jul-26 09:17:20

If they really wanted to see Charles that's what they'd do Aveline, but they don't.

If there had been apologies that would be a different matter.
But there have been none. As far as I know.

No indication either of a massive change in behaviour from either of them, going forward.

You are quite correct we should, I guess it's familiarity, we have been around as long as he has. Every year I think he is the same age as me!.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jul-26 10:26:51

We tend to refer to the King and Queen as Charles and Camilla in my family. The same goes for William and Kate (although we know it should be Catherine)
Harry and Meghan, Sophie and Edward.

The only exception is Princess Anne because we’re not as familiar with her husband. We did used to talk about Anne and Mark though back in the day.

We are the same.

I think I grew up with the Royals being the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother.

You wouldn’t have dreamed of saying Liz and Phil back in the 50’s, but then most people were Mr and Mrs, not all Christian names like nowadays.

Times have changed, which is why it’s C&C, W&C, and, sorry to say, H&M.

I am a Republican, so do not feel able to comment, usually, on threads about the royal family.
However, I do feel sadness for the little children of this couple.
My understanding is that they are estranged from the families on both sides.
This situation means that they do not enjoy what many children do - the fun of big and little cousins, the interest of aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
My GC, like so many others, tell the wider family about their school report, demonstrate their prowess on the trumpet, perform their dances, etc etc.
Some of this happens via a video link, as some live away, but all receive lots of praise and enthusiasm from us all .
Mine love to hear tales of their parents' childhood escapades, especially the naughty ones ...
What a loss for these children.
