It's that time of year again - and the launch of our Best reads for Christmas. Over £500 of fantastic books, fiction and non-fiction, great gift ideas for family and friends (and yourself - goes without saying)

Aaaaand - one very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page. To enter simply tell us what's on your Christmas wish list (it can be absolutely anything)

We will be picking a winner at random on 14 December - more details on the page

health, happiness and for my children to get the presents they really want

Like many others on this thread, I have more than enough 'stuff' (books excepted!), so have nothing on my list for Christmas. What I would really love is to have Santa's elves visit sometime before the Big Day to wrap the mountain of presents I have been buying throughout the year for family members. I enjoy buying things when I spot them, but hate wrapping, particularly since I am so bad at it. I ought to buy shares in sticky tape manufacturers, as I use miles of the stuff. grin

I hope that I can spend another Christmas with my beautiful sister who is terminally ill. It will mean so much to me.

durhamjen Mon 21-Nov-16 10:09:03

For everyone to have a decent home. Food and clean water would be nice as well, if Santa can manage that. Oh, and peace in all countries. Not much to ask, really.

This year in particular, as it is the first one we will not be doing the entertaining but will be being entertained, my wish is that the awful weather we are being promised holds off until we are back home again. Christmas is a time for families and we love to be there in the thick of it.

I always wish for health for my grandson who had his spleen removed when 3 months old. He is now 6 years old, takes antibiotics everyday and there is a constant battle to keep him healthy

Sparkyju Mon 21-Nov-16 10:10:37

My wish is for my family and friens to have health, happines and peace in their lives.

There's only one thing on my whole family's wishlist, a cure for a wonderful young mum's illness.

Tidusmc Mon 21-Nov-16 10:13:53

I have 4 fantastic grandchildren, 3 wonderful sons, 2 amazing daughters-in-law and a handful of friends who make my life so very worthwhile. What do I want or need 'ABSOLUTELY NOTHING'. We should all appreciate what we have because some people are not as lucky as we are.

I've just bought myself the complete boxset of Downton Abbey on DVD which my OH can wrap for me. This way I'm guaranteed to love my Christmas pressie!

Two years ago my sister (S1) lost her husband after a lengthy illness. Another sister (S2) and her husband were booked to go on holiday when the funeral took place. They thought about whether to cancel but decided not to as they believed they would be of greater support to her when they returned. How wrong they were. (S1) took great umbrage to this and has barely, if only curtly, spoken to them since. They were always very close too. She (S1) also distanced herself somewhat from the rest of the family. We knew this was all part of the grieving process and have continued to be supportive in as many ways as possible despite her rudeness to all of the family.
Thankfully this year we seem to be turning a bit of a corner and she is spending more time with our elderly mother and other family members, but still not speaking to (S2). Well this year I am going to invite her (S1) to stay with me for a few days over Christmas as I know the friends she has spent the last two Christmas's with are away this year.
I apologise for this being long winded but my Christmas wish is to initiate and bring (S1) and (S2) together again. It is unlikely to happen on Christmas day but if it happens this coming year it will be the best present ever and the only one our mother would wish for.

I'm going to sound like one of the contestants in a beauty competition but I wish the world was a more peaceful place.
For my family I wish for them all to be healthy and happy and for myself I would like anything which makes me feel pampered.

AliBeeee Mon 21-Nov-16 10:26:38

My Christmas list has several books (mostly from the above list)...and a bottle of Edinburgh Gin's Elderflower gin to enjoy with them. Hic.

Dr Who's Tardis. It would take the hassle out of travel! I could just step in, and step out on a Caribbean beach, or whatever other place I fancied. Especially on a dark, dismal, wet day like today.

I would visit The Grand Canyon, Australia, New Zealand, numerous cities on my wish list of 'Places I wish to visit before I pop my clogs', places I just read about these days. It would be wonderful! smile smile

pegros Mon 21-Nov-16 10:28:46

Health and happiness, and for someone else to cook the Christmas lunch this year!! smile

GandT Mon 21-Nov-16 10:29:40

My wish, for those of us who need to travel any distance to see their family at Xmas, is a successful and uneventful trip (especially for Santa Claus)!

ELSIEMART Mon 21-Nov-16 10:29:44

We're all aiming for experiences.. the children although being young recognise they have lots of toys and books so days out, meals out and a couple of bath bombs and bubble bath are on the list!

Angelwings Mon 21-Nov-16 10:33:38

Top of my Christmas wish list is just a peaceful and harmonious Christmastime for everyone. I don't request presents because I really don't need anything. The best thing for me about Christmas is just having some time off to relax and spend it in the company of friends and family.

kenmac4850 Mon 21-Nov-16 10:46:40

After 46 years of marriage, it gets harder and harder knowing what presents to buy!
This would be ideal as my wife is an avid book reader.
My Christmas wish list is for only one item--an Aston Martin!(I'll even settle for a second hand one)

bev62 Mon 21-Nov-16 10:48:00

Happiness and love for my loved ones AND perhaps a sewing machine for me?

rocketstop Mon 21-Nov-16 10:52:52

This year, I had a major operation and they discovered cancer, they think they got it all, but there's a risk of it returning. So all I wish for this year, is to be spared for many more Christmases with my lovely little Grandaughters.
