No, trisher, if you paraphrase you do not put it in quotes - it is not a quote - and you do it as a truthful interpretation. What I was saying was not what you "quoted". You lied about what I said and now you are adding to that lie.

I will not comment on a lie and I will not discuss with someone who thinks it is okay to misrepresent someone in a way that gives them another stick to beat with.

Quotation marks are not used only for direct quotations.
They can also be used to simply imply a connection, where the connection is not necessarily a direct one.

For example,
Belinda spoke to her cousin in a “school-mistress” tone.

You could argue that in that example, the quotation marks are unnecessary, but they add a nuance of meaning and are not incorrect.

It was not only not a quote, it certainly did not appear to imply a direct or indirect "connection". It bore no resemblance to what I had said and was done in order to provide the poster with a means of attack which she quickly followed up.

I will not accept that basically, I have to put myself up as an Aunt Sally for any bully on this site. It's not going to happen. It was a lie and a complete misrepresentation of what I had said and you really cannot use wriggle words to get out of that janeainsworth

GGMK3 if my interpretation of your post is not correct please could you explain it to me, because I can't see any other meaning there. If you do not like the quotation marks I am quite willing to accept that and apologise for them if you think they misled anyone.
However I do think it would be better if you could stop splitting hairs and return to the topic.

Trisher I am not interested in talking to someone who will blatantly misquote me. What will you do next? All you want is an argument and you misquoted for that purpose. I am simply not interested in the subjects you and others are dragging into this thread. All I was thinking about was how we could mark the amazing work, generosity and sometimes their lives that many are giving at the moment. That was the topic. I wrote it and I have never gone off it!

Someone else may want to argue with you about other things - I don't but neither do I want to be misrepresented and my views lied about.

If you cannot understand that the NHS is an institution which was conceived and implemented by people who believed in socialism and had socialist principles. and that adding the prefix "Royal" to it would be an insult to their memory. then so be it. It has never received Royal patronage, it has never been directly supported by anyone Roya.l and it has never been used by any Royal. It is an institution that belongs to ordinary people and it should remain so.

I wrote the topic of the thread so telling me to " stop splitting hairs and return to the topic." seems to infer that you know more than I do about what I wrote. Even you have to admit that is unlikely.

I am not interested, on this thread, in your opinion of Royalty or the politics of the NHS. I might be elsewhere and others may wish to discuss it with you; I do not. I was simply interested in the topic I put forward. Your second paragraph is of absolutely no interest to me. I really don't know how to make that any clearer.

I am also not interested in discussing anything with someone who is prepared to misrepresent what I wrote. I do not know how I can make that any clearer either.

If you feel this needs reporting to GN you should do so. I would. That is what they ask us to do. However, I have not personally attacked you. You lied about what I had written and tried to disguise that lie by suggesting it was a quote. Not good Trisher. Not good at all.

I am not sure why you think you have any right to expect a reply except for playing on my sense of decency. However, you are certainly not going to do yourself any good. You are making more and more a fool of yourself. Unfortunately, I can see no way of stopping you doing that if you insist on continuing in this way.

I cannot believe that I am sitting here watching people in mental agony because they are starving in Italy and yet this is the conversation you want to have Trisher. I feel sad that people will see this as the face of GN.

I am not enthusiastic about RNHS but I am attracted by ONHS - Our NHS - as suggested way up the thread.

At the more practical level, and accepting that I do not know how individual salaries are arrived at within the agreed scales, I think the taxpayer should fund a generous bonus scheme to allow NHS workers of all categories to be generously rewarded for their outstanding work during the pandemic.
