Exercising once a day?

Can anyone explain to me why we are only allowed to exercise once a day. I take my dogs out twice a day locally (in a very rural area) and avoid other people. What is the problem with this?

Put in to perspective our 38 year old friend is on a ventilator, they have four children (youngest 2yrs old) just flipping well stay at home!!!!

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:23:35

Buffybee, yea, why not? (it sometimes makes you feel that way).

Then we'll never get out of this nightmare, millions more will die, NHS overwhelmed, society will break down.

Oh, but never mind, our pooches will get their rightful exercise!

And nowhere, nowhere, have I said I’ll do what I want , or , ridiculously) have a free for all’ just said that I exercise , alone, for my mental health!!!!

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:31:52

No disrespect Grannygravy, but with four young children the infection that so dreadfully is affecting your friend more likely came from school than people exercising outdoors

songstress60 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:37:40

It is a senseless rule like the one we had in the first lockdown about only exercising for an hour. If you go walking on your own and you do not meet anyone you are not transmitting the virus. Lack of fresh air and the outdoors is going to cause major mental health problems. During lockdown one I exercised for about 3 hours a day and since I went walking alone who was I going to infect! All the parks and nature reserves were closed too. Very bad for people's mental health. You can easily socially distant outside.

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:41:45

Exactly Songstress60, I am far less at risk, and less risk to others, than when I am in the supermarket !!!!!

growstuff Wed 06-Jan-21 21:47:58

One good result of this pandemic is that just about everybody is concerned about mental health issues. I hope that means that there'll be loads of donations to mental health charities and mental health will stop being the Cinderella of the NHS.

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:48:30

I just cannot understand how people can not grasp that if you are not in contact with anyone outside you cannot possibly infect anyone - words fail me, so will bow out of this conversation, and enjoy my isolated, Covid secure exercise tomorrow!!

growstuff Wed 06-Jan-21 21:51:59

GrannyGravy I sincerely hope that your friend gets better soon.

I wonder what it would be like if all 66 million of us decided to go for a walk on our own.

growstuff Wed 06-Jan-21 21:53:38

Oh, they can grasp it. What I can't grasp is that people think that only they matter. If everybody did as you're doing, you wouldn't be on your own, but - hey - who cares about other people?

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 21:56:01

Err Growstuff, if 66 million people went for a walk on their own they would be.... oh yes, on their own!!!!

Callistemon Wed 06-Jan-21 22:00:33

Well, I'm out!

Not literally - it's dark and if I drove anywhere the police might be waiting just in case I wanted to drive a mile down the hill to go for a self-distanced walk .

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:02:04

Oh dear!

Guess who will be the first to complain, when they're told, by ambulance crew, that they won't be going to hospital? (Like my poor neighbour, too old, 85, chances of survival too low.)

She hadn't been out at all since February, shopping delivered, no visitors - still, she caught it.

She did a lot of gardening, though, so we assume it drifted on the air from a neighbour - or possibly from a delivery.

Still, some people always think that they know better, don't they? (There really is no such thing as 'Covid secure')

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:03:17

UK, 62,322 new cases and 1,041 new deaths today!

MissChateline Wed 06-Jan-21 22:04:57

Nana 58....well said. Of course No virus will be transmitted to anyone by anyone when we are exercising alone and on our own. Long may we continue to exercise alone and may we continue stay well and healthy. Good night.

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:05:15

I most certainly don’t think that only I matter, I do not mispx households, we were alone at Christmas m I shop online if possible and if not then infrequently at the supermarket. My exercise out of the house is vital for me, not ‘an excuse ‘ Those of you are so worried about th NHS consider this - if my mental health failed my husband would need to be cared for in residential accommodation, a strain on NHS finances. So , just fir a minute,if you can, try to think just a little outside of your’the rules’ judgemental boxes

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:05:55

In my opinion it really is time to put our own needs aside for the collective fight against Covid.

I am happy to forgo exercising outside, shopping and socialising in order to be alive to see my children and grandchildren.

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:08:19

Hetty58, if your neighbour caught it whilst rigidly following the rules then that doesn’t say much for the efficacy of the rules does it????

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:14:22

Goodnight MissChateline

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:17:18

Also Hetty58 , if it ‘ drifted on the air from a neighbour ‘ why is SAGE advising us to throw open our windows and let in fresh air??????

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:20:50

Wow, we've got some top scientists on here who actually know the routes of transmission, and can calculate the risks!

We really should let the government know. Can they tell me how my neighbour caught it?

Remember the 'facts', not so long ago, we were apparently going to need so many ventilators, it was definitely not air-borne - and children didn't spread it?

Apparently, now, we're unlikely to catch it from objects. Do we really believe that?

Wow again, it seems that the NHS would pay for residential care. That means that CHC has actually been awarded - as rare as hen's teeth!

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:23:04

Not exactly sure what in your life has made you so harsh, sarcastic and unfeeling Hetty58, but whatever it was I can find it in my heart to feel sorry for you.

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:24:35

I'm not unfeeling, Nanna58, just sick to the back teeth of all the selfish, ignorant people on here!

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 22:26:22

An 'unfeeling' person, after all, would do exactly what they want - then make up 'reasons' for it.

I was going to make the same comment about how most accidents happen at home as Miss Adventure pointed out.

I am sure everyone has enough sense to avoid going out if it’s icy and slippery, and after watching Julia Bradbury’s quite hairy Cornish coastal path walk tonight, maybe some of those are best avoided too!
