Coronavirus

The decision to end restrictions is dangerous and premature, unethical and illogical.

Scientists have published a letter in the Lancet, saying that they have 5 main concerns over the governments plans for unmitigated infection.
I have taken this from John Campbell’s site.

First - disproportionately affecting children and young people
There are 17 million people with no covid protection.
Exponential growth will continue until millions more people are infected
This will leave hundreds of thousands of people with long term illness and disability
Risks leaving a generation with ill health.

Second - transmission in schools will lead to educational disruption.
There should be strict mitigation in schools and eventual vaccination of children.
Important for clinically vulnerable children and socially vulnerable children.

Third - emergent of vaccine resistant mutations, with their potential spread.

Fourth - there will significant impact on exhausted clinicians.
There is no break yet between infection and hospital admission.
Rising case numbers will inevitably mean more hospital admissions.
Millions of people are waiting for procedures and many will die waiting.

Fifth
Deprived communities are very exposed.
The deprived and marginalised will be disproportionately affected.

Given that vaccine offers the same protection and herd immunity, the governments strategy is unethical and illogical.

The U.K. government must reconsider its current strategy and take urgent steps to protect people and children.
We believe that the U.K. government is embarking on a dangerous and unethical experiment, and we call on it to pause its planned endings of all mitigation on 19 July.

Did you know that London has asked for companies to tender for supplying temporary mortuaries starting this winter for four years as they are expecting excess deaths.

If something seems very unlikely, its probably a conspiracy theory. 2 minutes of googling, really.

www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-body-storage-idUSL2N2O6230

Quote: Missing context. While the tender is real, it is not linked to the vaccine or the current pandemic.

Using disinformation to spread conspiracy theories and frighten people really isn’t very nice.

Cunco

I am quite surprised that the scientists say that there is no break yet in inflections and hospital admissions. The daily coronavirus update suggests the rise in cases is much sharper than the rise in hospitalisations or, indeed, deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate. I appreciate that there is a lag between infections and deaths; but while today's numbers for England show a moderate rise in deaths, it is a tiny percentage of the rise in cases 4 weeks ago.

Of course, this could change but while we can get too optimistic, we can also get overly pessimistic too. If our vaccinations become ineffective, all bets are off.

If we keep stop-starting the economy, one day it may not start again. Government can make rules and give advice but not all people actually take it and I think the appetite for restrictions has waned. I am not saying this is a good thing or that I won't be using a mask but I suspect it is a reasonable reflection of how it is.

Good sensible post??

Thank you Casdon just skimmed it, the small print states it cannot guarantee numbers , duration or if indeed extra facilities will be needed.

Alegrias1 it’s becoming a bit of a habit I agree with your post, despite my skim reading the tender details that is the conclusion I came to.

lemongrove Tue 13-Jul-21 21:04:27

So? They have to get plans in place just in case....I can imagine the outcry on here if they didn’t have anywhere for the deceased in the scenario where it was needed.

Casdon Tue 13-Jul-21 21:04:34

That’s right GrannyGravy13, it looks like it’s effectively a call-off contract in case it’s needed. Alegrias posted a fact-check above too.

I wonder how much money that company donated to the Tories?

Alegrias1 Tue 13-Jul-21 21:13:19

GG13, lets not make a habit of it. grin

I'm just going to shout this bit because there are still people who think its important, apparently.

What Company do you mean please OnwardsandUpward?

How is feeling uncomfortable being selfish? Surely we all have the right to protect ourselves? OMG BJ has done a very good job in brainwashing the masses to believe in his own misguided decisions. I personally do not want to feel responsible for even one more death in this country by not being careful.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jul-21 21:21:23

Feeling uncomfortable to me means only putting on a mask if you feel you are in danger yourself not putting on a mask because you want to protect others. Or that’s my interpretation of it. I wear a mask to protect myself and to stop other people feeling uncomfortable because how do I know if other people are feeling uncomfortable. I’d prefer to assume that they are.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 13-Jul-21 21:24:55

We should modify our behaviour to keep fellow citizens safe, not solely concentrate on ourselves. How comfortable we feel simply shouldn’t enter into it.

I think one of the problems is that the virus is invisible to everyone. What if it was, say, like an intestinal worm? One which we could see and know it was invading us as a host, to feed and breed, making us ill or even die in the process? We would be so disgusted we would do anything not to catch it or pass it on.

But this is just what the virus wants; it's looking for a host. Surely only children would say "If I can't see it, it isn't there and even if it is I won't catch it or pass it on."

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jul-21 23:29:49

You mean like my tick (yuk). The fact is if I’d used every precaution possible I wouldn’t’ve had a tick on my leg. If I’d worn long trousers, tucked my trousers into my socks, put insect repellent on and checked my clothes for ticks when I got home I wouldn’t have found one on my leg feeding away. As it was I left a 5 inch area of exposed skin around my ankle for 10 minutes in an area where ticks lived, wearing no insect repellent and the tick, which, like a virus, can’t move very far, realised it was his lucky day. If corona virus looked like a tick we would do everything possible to stop it latching onto us.

OnwardandUpward Tue 13-Jul-21 23:35:00

Invisible things seem to get overlooked a lot in life by people who cant see them. Like people with invisible illness often get unfair treatment.

True, if only the virus was visible- like nasty green snot or an intestinal worm. People would be absolutely repulsed and avoid it like the plague. I think a lot of children understand that viruses are invisible and have hygiene drummed into them at school- so the hosts available may be the ones in denial.

I’ve heard recently, of an unvaccinated nurse, or medic, I can’t remember, dying from covid. However is this fake news? Quite expected I would think.

I have. My husband was looking on line. There were several reports. As you’re such an authority on everything, maybe you could give us all a list of what’s fake and what isn’t. It would save the journalists such a lot of time.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Jul-21 10:15:02

My last comment regarding the contract out for tender

This is Westminster City Council who has put this contract out not the U.K. Government.

All Councils have contingency plans in place for worse case scenarios my company has been involved in one such plan for a County

If these plans were not in the top drawer there would be many bemoaning the fact that nothing is being done. The plans that we were involved with were fortunately never needed.

Its replacing a contract that has been in place for about 4 years.

Tell your husband Gillian McKeith, UK Column and some bloke off You Tube aren't reliable sources.

If you want to know what's fake and what's not, try being online with a bit of critical analysis of sources and motivations.

Sorry to be rude, but really, will people try to discriminate between fake news and reality?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Jul-21 10:39:38

Alegrias1 is 100% correct on this.
