Booster vaccination

Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

No problems with jabs for me or my husband. I have had the first two, and booster will be next Thursday. Husband has had both jabs and the booster. We both have health issues, but are not eligible for a third dose.

Info re third dose in Wales here - sbuhb.nhs.wales/go/covid-19-vaccinations-third-dose-for-the-immunosuppressed-not-boosters/

and in Scotland here - www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/the-vaccines/coronavirus-covid-19-third-dose-vaccination

Alegrias, I want to make it clear, it certainly wasn't me, who reported you. Just in case there is any speculation that it was. I have more important things to do with my time

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 19:25:20

It doesn't matter to me at all who reported me Marydoll, everyone is entitled to do as they see fit. I'm not speculating about who did it, or if anyone did it at all. Only pointing out that whatever led to the deletion is still there, for everyone to see.

I'm tempting fate now, aren't I? smile

Despite the unhelpful posts, I have found some of them informative. So not all bad.

Thank you for mentioning Stafford Hospitals, SueDonim as it is a scandal which resonates with me.

Alegrias, you may well know all about how the booster vaccination programme is progressing from what you have gleaned and your own experience but the fact remains that many GPs and indeed hospital consultants do not appear to have your extensive knowledge about it.

Lizzie72 thank you for the link re Wales as neither my GP surgery nor my consultant (not surprisingly) seem to understand the difference and I have only learnt this from other Gransnetters

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 22:38:06

Sarcasm and misrepresenting what I wrote now, is it? Okey doke. hmm

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 22:44:51

I'm really sorry for anyone that's had problems, and this may get me deleted, but....isn't it funny that its always the same people who have problems ?

Possibly because these are the people who have disabilities, health problems, difficulties coping with every day life?
Possibly not unusual in older people?
Possibly Gransnet is a place to discuss these problems and experiences? Or at least it used to be.

Of course, younger, fitter Gransnetters may not understand this or have empathy with those who do.

No, perfectly straightforward

Probably too, because we have enquiring minds, question inaccuracies in some posts and are trying to manage our conditions, in the face of cancelled hospital appointments, lack of treatment, failure to monitor our comorbidities and experiencing difficulty seeing a GP.

You hit the nail on the head, Callistemon with the lack of empathy statement. Fortunately, I don't seek empathy, nor feel sorry for myself, just frustrated and exhausted, fighting my corner. If I don't do it, who will?

Thank goodness, we do have empathic posters on here, who are willing to share their expertise, knowledge and experiences, in the hope of helping others.

By the way Calistemon, how dare you imply I'm old! ?

Hellogirl1 Fri 05-Nov-21 23:10:56

I had a letter from the NHS a couple of weeks ago, inviting me to book an appointment for my booster. I had it today, as did daughter 3 who accompanied me.

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 23:15:40

By the way Calistemon, how dare you imply I'm old! ?

Apologies Marydoll! I was thinking of myself. ?

Of course, many people who are immunosuppressed may be younger too and the confusion over booster -v- 3rd vaccine is not helping as GPs seem unaware here. I've not heard a word from my consultant and I think, if I contact him, he won't know either.

Marydoll Fri 05-Nov-21 23:28:31

Calistemon, if there has been one thing I have learned during this pandemic, it is that you have to be proactive. When I was getting nowhere, I contacted my consultant's secretary and RA specialist nurse for advice.
However, before the pandemic, they were usually the ones who contacted me.

By the way, I am quite old, just can't admit it! ?

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 23:48:35

The secretary or nurse may know more than the consultant, Marydoll!

SueDonim Fri 05-Nov-21 23:58:28

I have a feeling, from your previous posts, that you’re about my age, Marydoll. I can assure you that that is in no way old. grin

MayBee70 Sat 06-Nov-21 00:00:53

It’s a learning curve for everyone. We have to find out as much information as we can from every source possible. No one is an expert in this because it’s all new.

Marydoll Sat 06-Nov-21 00:03:57

Sue I have the outlook of a teenager, shame about my short, chubby, wrinkled and decrepit body! ?

grannyactivist Sat 06-Nov-21 01:55:56

As a front-line worker with homeless people I had my booster exactly 182 days after my second vaccine.

Yesterday I accompanied one of my clients to an appointment with his doctor and the lovely GP asked if we’d had our flu shots yet and, having checked my age first, she gave us both our flu shots there and then. I‘d made an appointment to have it on the 20th, which I happily cancelled on my way out. ??

Just read that from Monday you can make a booster appointment a month in advance of you reaching your 6 months. That'll make the lives of us youngsters easier.

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Nov-21 07:28:36

Text from GP yesterday, booked booster for the 25th, very efficient.

Yes, it will. That's exactly what I was wanting.

I don't understand what's happened to the organisation up here. The first two Covid jags were so straightforward to access but this time the appointments system and organisation seems to have gone haywire. I'm glad DH and I have been 'done' but by golly it was an ordeal.

I'm sorry you've had difficulties, Aveline, but it's not all bad in Scotland. We got appointments sent for Sunday early evening in the town 20 miles away, but as neither of us is happy driving in the dark and public transport is a bit dicey on a Sunday evening, I phoned the helpline to see if we could go earlier in the day. After a very short wait, I got a pleasant man who gave us new appointments for a Saturday in the late morning, and we have now had both jags. Everyone we saw in the centre was friendly and helpful.

I had my letter this morning to book. Chose instead to go to the walk in 5mins away seen within 10mins no problem. Thank you NHS.

Marydoll Sat 06-Nov-21 16:20:53

DH went for his this afternoon. We were very surprised to find that the previous two hour queues of last week were gone. This may have been due to the intervention of our MP, who lives locally.
I decided to go in and asked what the protocols were for those who were immunocompromised.
The nurse in charge was summoned, my records were checked and the immunocompromised coding on my CHI, was noted. Twenty minutes later, after a consultation with a few medics, I was offered my flu and third primary vaccinations. Due to the research I had done, I was able to explain why the AZ wasnt suitable. Then I was offered the Pfizer.
I was told that because I was immunosuppressed, they were happy to do it ahead of my appointment.
It pays to be proactive. I am so relieved.
