Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

Good to hear. I’m so relieved to have had mine.

Apologies if this has been asked before but how long does it take after the booster for the extra immunity to kick in?

MayBee70 Sun 07-Nov-21 01:02:47

Just googled it and it says 7 days….

Marydoll Sun 07-Nov-21 01:09:26

I was told two weeks! Here we go again! ?

Didn’t think to read the leaflet they gave me. But just looked and it doesn’t say anything.

Pittcity

Just read that from Monday you can make a booster appointment a month in advance of you reaching your 6 months. That'll make the lives of us youngsters easier.

Just thought I’d say that I’ve managed to book my booster online for 19th, so the online booking is already open smile

Pittcity Sun 07-Nov-21 20:29:20

Thanks for that MandL

I will book mine shortly hopefully that will be it for at least a year. Was surprised when they announced a booster would be needed after just 6 months
Funny I seem more concerned about having another after such a short time

Ours are booked for the end of the month.

I’ve just gone on the NHS website to see if I’m eligible, and I was 1,498 in the queue!

Susan56 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:11:03

Fanny when I went on the NHS website to book ours we were at the end of a very long queue so I phoned instead and got through straight away. Both booked in for tomorrow?

FannyCornforth Mon 08-Nov-21 10:13:32

Thank you Susan, but my six months isn’t up yet, I was just looking out of curiosity (not to mention cluttering up the website and needlessly contributing to the problem!)

FannyCornforth Mon 08-Nov-21 10:13:52

Well done btw!

Pittcity Mon 08-Nov-21 14:10:29

You can book up to a month in advance from today, so it only needs to be 5 months since your 2nd jab.
Glad I booked last night having seen MandL's post.

I had my booster yesterday lunchtime and felt awful when i got up this morning. Banging headache, feeling very hot and generally feeling out of sorts. Taking my ususal medication one of which contains paracetamol has helped. Now i just feel like i want to put my head down on a pillow and sleep. I had planned to sort out my hanging baskets today and have a sort out of xmas decs. Might still go into greenhouse and do baskets as i can sit down and it is usually is quite warm in there. Anyone else suffering after their booster???

Alegrias1 Tue 09-Nov-21 11:02:40

Sorry to read you are under the weather travelsafar, I hope you feel better soon.

I got my blue envelope today, 24 weeks minus 1 day since my second dose.

Appointment is next week, 24 week + 6 days since my second dose. Flu and Booster together. 10 minutes or so walk from my house.

What a shambles, eh?

Marydoll Tue 09-Nov-21 12:13:43

Oh brilliant news, Alegrias! ?

Jaxjacky Tue 09-Nov-21 12:29:41

Mine too Alegrias1 txt from GP with a selection of times and dates available, vaccination booked 25th, 6 months and 5 days after 2nd. No shambles in the south of England either.

Same for us Jaxjacky with texts. They came before the 6 months was up. Choice of times and dates and a place closer to where we live - 3 miles away. Only stipulation was that we booked a date after our 6 months was up.

We were also given a choice: Flu and covid vaccine at the same time or just covid and then flu one 14 days later at the doctors. We went for both and got the Pfizer, same as the first two vaccinations. For such a rural county, the vaccinations have gone really smoothly. Our friend (79) had his 3rd primary vaccination 3 weeks ago.

Yes, travelsafar, I felt very tired and useless the day after my booster + flu - partly tired from not sleeping well with two sore arms, of course. I rested as much as possible that day and felt a lot better by the next day, so I hope your side effects pass off as quickly. The sore arms were a lot better by the second night, and so sleeping was much easier too. flowers and best wishes.

My face was a bit tingly for a few days. It worried me because I saw a headline saying the Pfizer vaccine could cause lymphodaema. Which then annoyed me because , when I googled it I read that lymphodaema is caused by the lymph glands reacting to the vaccine ( surely a sign that it is working!) and isn’t anything to worry about. These scary headlines really annoy me. Still don’t know how long it takes for the booster to be fully effective.I’m in my 7th day now and want to see my granddaughter next week.
