Coronavirus

Very helpful interview discussing the role of zinc, vitamin D and K2 in viral infections. Certainly worth setting aside 40 mins to watch. Dr Cohen advised all his patients 2,000 of them, to take

Dr Cohen advises all of his 2,000 patients to take vitamin D, 4,000 iu daily, and none of them have been hospitalised since the start of the pandemic. He also claims zinc taken at the start of a viral infection (50mg twice a day) often knocks the virus on the head. He recommends a zinc maintenance dose at 30mg daily. Vitamin D needs to be taken long term, even in summer. It’s also interesting to read the readers’ comments, some claiming not to have had colds for many years since taking vitamin D and zinc.

I have been taking this supplement for about 18 months. I do not take zinc supplement but do take a multivitamin which does have zinc in it. I have had Covid twice but asymptomatic both times…

This!

I have been listening to Dr JohnCampbell, academic in Nursing studies, since the beginning of this pandemic and he has been advocating this since the beginning, also was discussed with Professor Tim Spector, and many other medical men across the globe. So on that advice started it at the beginning, no colds or touch wood, or covid. My fingers are crossed.

Does lashings of Lurpak on my crumpets suffice as my daily intake of Vit.D ? A 750g tub only lasts me for just over 2 weeks smile

My DD check up that I've been taking my Vit D and zinc since the start of the pandemic although I prefer some sunshine in the summer, but I haven't come across K2

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 16:37:46

I'm not allowed VitK on account of the warfarin----not a good match, which goes for anyone who's on blood-thinners.

Calistemon Mon 13-Dec-21 16:40:35

Oh, interesting and worth noting.

Shelbel Mon 13-Dec-21 16:45:30

I have to take vit D supplements as I have vitiligo and have to stay ou of the sun. I haven't had covid or a cold for years so... Must be true. grin

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 16:48:06

I'm another who doesn't get colds, but had the bloomin' virus back in 2019. A shock to the system.

I was taking Vitamin D and Vitamin K daily last winter. Vitamin K works with Vitamin D and therefore it’s useful to take them together. However I was taking them both last winter and was hospitalised with Covid, so although I still take them, I won’t be putting any faith in them as a preventative for Covid.

We take one tablet each of D3 every day: no idea whether it works.

grannyrebel7 Mon 13-Dec-21 17:06:12

I was taking vitamin D and after routine blood tests was told my levels were fine and not to take it any more. I was loving it because it made my hair and nails grow and want to keep taking it, but I would be going against the doctor's advice. Nothing was said about how long it would last, so all confused now.

Juicywords Mon 13-Dec-21 17:06:19

Sorry to hear about your hospitalisation Maddyone. Do you remember how much vitamin D you were taking then?

I was surprised that Dr Cohen recommends 4,000 iu daily. I’ve only been taking 1,000 iu up until now, and no zinc. I’m going to increase it and add in zinc and K2 (you can buy vitamin D and K2 combined).

Agreed MissA

Dr Cohen also says he used hydroxychloroquine which has been shown to be ineffective by WHO, amongst others.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 17:24:18

Too much vitamin D has a detrimental affect on blood levels.

Juicywords Mon 13-Dec-21 17:24:39

Dr Cohen says hydroxychloroquine should be used together with zinc. If zinc wasn’t used in previous trials that could be the reason it wasn’t effective?

As non medical people how can we possibly know?!

Yep, my partner takes Warfarin and having had a serious bleed last year, I know that VitK is the antidote to Warfarin, so absolutely should be avoided. My mum takes Edoxaban as an alternative to Warfarin and she has been advised to avoid VitK, as it interferes with the efficiency of the drug - I think Epixaban is the same.

In the western world with our good diets, vitamin supplements just give us expensive wee. Retailers nudging insecurities. No thanks.

Well we can read the reputable journals and reports from sources like WHO and the BMJ and not take it on trust that a person with Dr in front of their name knows what they are talking about. wink

Alegrias1 Mon 13-Dec-21 17:34:39

Oh, I see what you meant MissA - in answer to Juicywords, I think.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 17:42:56

Yes that's what I meant.
I'm very sceptical of people feeding into the idea that the general public should be taking extra this or that.
It smacks of conspiracy theory type beliefs, to me.
