I've got covid

Why on earth can't masks be compulsory again? I go on buses and notice that most older people wear them but not the younger ones. It's the same in most places. It isn't too much to ask surely.

People who go to work when they have COVID are really selfish and thoughtless. Probably same people who have gone to work in the past with bad colds which they spread around to everyone

Nonnadiana. It may be that if someone doesn’t go to work that they don’t get paid. Sickness benefits don’t usually start from day 1 off and when they are provided the amount that you would get is so pitiful. People have rent and mortgages to pay, food to put on the table and basic living costs. If you were on temporary and unstable part time hours or in the gig economy it’s not possible to turn down shifts if offered. If you turn them down you get known to be unreliable. Further shifts are offered elsewhere.
It’s not selfish and thoughtless to want to survive especially with the current financial situation. For many it’s survival for them and their families.

After shielding for two years with DH I somehow managed to get Covid 3 weeks ago. Hung and I have been together everywhere and he didn’t get it which was a relief as he is immuno compromised. Felt dreadful and as an asthmatic am still feeling some of the effects and so tired! Feeling positive that it will get better. DH had his 4th jab yesterday and has been told he will need a 5th so I suppose it’s up to me not to take any risks and put him in jeopardy! Heard that cases are rocketing particularly in the over 55’s.

I went to a dinner party a few weeks ago and out of 12 people there 8 of us got Covid. I'm 78 but didn't have it that badly - like a bad cold. No temperature, no headache, didn't lose my sense of taste or smell. Tested negative after four days - I volunteer for the NHS so have to test twice a week, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered as I didn't think I had anything more than a cold. Feel fine now apart from a slight cough but as an ex smoker that's par for the course. Very odd how it is so different for everyone.

We had a call yesterday to say that our 10 year old dgs has covid now.
His parents were sure that he just had a very bad cold, and didn't even think to test straight away (!!!).
When they finally did a lateral flow test on him, they were quite surprised when it showed positive.

As he had been playing in a confined space with his young cousin earlier that day - who we have a lot of contact with - it might only be a matter of time before more of us go down with it.

We are, too. It’s not too bad. I’ve had worse. But a younger friend is in hospital now, after her second bout in a month!

I've been part of the ZOE Covid study since it started - its continuing research on Covid and its effects on long-term health is having its funding withdrawn - weeks after being assured that the funding was 'certain' to be continued. ?
So any large-scale investigation into how Covid affects the health of the UK population will be impossible.
Funding is decided by the UKHSA. If you’d like to share with them the value you see the ZOE Health Study providing in the coming years, then perhaps there is still a chance for the government to be part of the funding solution. Miss Chateline, you should like a really unreasonable , arrogant person. Why on earth does owning a house outright have any bearing on anything ? I expect most people in this group own theirs too, some I expect might own several. They might also have caught Covid, as far as I know owning a house does not stop Covid.

Wishing you well. I still haven't had it. Have to do a test though before I go to a wedding on 26th. They are asking everyone to do one before they attend.

I’ve got it for second time… still testing positive after 11 days….. feel shocking . No energy…. no appetite….. coughing fit to bust a gut….. head / nose full of mucus. All this and a disabled husband to care for. I’d love to crawl into my bed and stay there for a few days!

Sorry to read that so many people are struggling with this horrible illness at the moment. Wishing everyone a speedy recovery. Some employers are telling staff to come in if they are positive, the level of sickness in the general population is staggering.

Despite retaining mask wearing in Scotland, there are just as many of not more cases there as in England. Best to get it now as it will give you higher immunity than the vaccinactions. I had it back in October last year hardly any symptoms but was still testing positive on day 12. I lost my husband in February 2021 from hospital acquired Covid-19. He wasn't very healthy but it was still a shock. I'm more worried about any more variants that might be worse.

What evidence do you have that infection now will give you better immunity to future variants than vaccinations?

There doesn't seem to be any immunity, people get reinfected? Someone said it's come back, but it never went away.

We caught Covid the day after restrictions were lifted. Initially I did not realise my severe muscle pain and headache were covid. A couple of days later got sniffles and did lft tests which were positive. We got off lightly I think as a few days later we were fine.

2nd Covid infection for me,first time hardly any symptoms this time it’s worse feel quite tired and no energy and what feels like a heavy cold.

Sorry to hear that - you are a victim of the government’s gung-ho attitude to getting back to normal when infections are rife. It’s still out there, and just as dangerous - some parts of China are in lockdown again, and South Korea are barely coping with their infections. Only here we wouldn’t know how bad it is becase testing, isolation, masks and reporting have all been abandoned

SueDoku I contribute to the Zoe covid study too. I always record my LFTs to them and report everyday. I’m so annoyed they are having their funding cut.

Oh....I wish it were a lovely fluffy cloud....but its not. My life at the moment is settling my 90 year old dad in a care home 250 miles away from where I live and clearing a house of 50 years of hoarding.
For the first time in 2 years I'm having to do daily tests due to visiting my dad. This is definitely not a fluffy cloud.
What is odd though is the hoops I have to jump through to get to see him alone in his room with tests and ppe etc when he can get wheeled over to church every week, no masks, no checks on vax status, everyone singing and mingling and he can go straight back into the home and mingle.
When all this started 2 years ago I knew I wasn't going to be ill from covid because I've reached the ripe old age of 67 without ever being ill. And so far I have been right. The last time I was confined to bed was when I was 14 with German measles and bed was compulsory at boarding school. Apart from an occasional cold I've never had a days illness. Maybe I'm just lucky.
But I still would not let anyone tell me who I can or can not have in my house, who I can visit, hug or go for a walk with. I certainly did not accept being told that i could only go for a short walk once a day. It transpires that this was a recommendation rather than a law.
Despite all of the sometimes ridiculous measures people have gone to, disinfecting their shopping, quarentining the post, continuing to wear masks etc they have still caught it. I have done what I was legally required to, masks in shops and have not caught it or contaminated anyone else.
Anyway I will continue to reside on my fluffy cloud which at the moment consists of a totally empty house in the flatlands of Norfolk, sleeping in a small campervan outside the back door and really wishing I was in .y own bed in Yorkshire. Fluffy cloud indeed!
