Has anyone experience the lates round of Covid? I came home from Greece on Monday and here I am. Feel dreadful. Anyone else experienced the most recent strain?

I'm puzzled as to why antibiotics have been prescribed for people with covid. The clue's in the name: corona virus. Antibiotics have no effect on a virus.
Unless there is some additional bacterial infection present, antibiotics are just a waste of time and resources and may even contribute to the growing problem of antibiotics losing their effectiveness.

Hope you are soon over your reaction. Maddy one. I wonder which vaccine you had ?I have had a fluey type reaction with the Pfizer, but the last one was Moderna and no reaction at all.

I think it’s if a chest infection or hopefully not, pneumonia develop Scribbles

Can I ask how you all know it's covid? I have an old testing kit from 2021, but what do you test with nowadays?

Doodledog Sun 01-Oct-23 23:49:07

You can buy tests from chemists or Amazon. I had an older one (2022 I think) but it still worked though. They won’t suddenly expire, but will probably just get gradually less sensitive.

I hope you feel better, have a lovely time with them.

Thank you so much rafichgran. I’m feeling much better today, not quite my usual self, but much better. I’m quite excited now too, it will be lovely to see them.

Currently on holiday and alas I think I may have it. Scratchy throat, runny nose, deep pain in all my joints, headache... Praying I shall be well enough to go home on Thursday because all I want is to be in my own bed.

My daughter had this new form of Covid and she felt so I’ll .She has had the previous Covid a few years ago but this time felt so I’ll .Hope you get better soon

Chicklette Mon 02-Oct-23 12:38:00

I came down with it this weekend. I’ve never had it before, have had all my jabs, including extras as I am counted as vulnerable, and have been completely floored by it. The cough is so painful and I’m absolutely exhausted and feeling so weak. I’m used to working through when I feel ill but I don’t think I can with this. I’m currently waiting for a call from the doctor as the NHS have said I should be given antivirals if I get covid. But the doctor’s surgery seem totally thrown by my request! So I have to have a phone appointment. Hopefully they’ll give me the meds

JenniferEccles Mon 02-Oct-23 12:46:12

I have still got some covid tests from a couple of years ago so I can understand how people are able to test themselves to see if it’s covid or not.
What I can’t understand is how folk know which particular variant they have.

Chicklette Mon 02-Oct-23 12:53:05

Update: Just spoke to the nicest doctor! He said I’m very high risk because of my meds but also my asthma, which I hadn’t thought of. So he’s giving me some antivirals and said to keep an eye on things in case it becomes a chest infection, and to go to A&E if I get really bad.

PamQS Mon 02-Oct-23 13:09:10

I’ve got a bug of some kind - not Covid according to the test I did - and I feel rotten. I think it’s one of those ‘unending colds’ that go round in autumn/winter.

Being 65, I’m vaccinated up to my eyeballs grin but I think colds can make you feel pretty bad. Look after yourself, get as much rest as you can, and consult the doctor (if you can) if anything seems seriously wrong.

Hope you feel better soon. thanksbrew

I am sorry to hear you are so poorly. I got the all clear on September 9th after feeling dreadful for a few weeks. My 42 year old daughter had it at the same time.

I have a small dog and live alone so I had to go out and walk him no matter how I felt. I didn't go far, but the short walks seem to have made the difference in how each of us as recovered. She is now on antibiotics and steroids. I wonder if this is because she stayed in bed when she was ill. Perhaps the motto is "keep moving !"

I hope you soon feel better. It's a horrible illness and it's time people started taking it more seriously and staying home. When I took the dog out I stayed away from everyone and if anyone came close I stopped them and warned them. I was surprised how many folk said that it wouldn't bother them if they got it. As you and I know, it most certainly would !

There’s a supplement called Phyto-V which was developed in conjunction with Cambridge University which apparently has good results for preventing/ treating long covid.

Overthemoon Mon 02-Oct-23 13:26:56

Yes, it's a nasty one, me and DH just over Covid. I've never had such a foggy head, ached all over and so tired. No cold symptoms now and we're both now testing negative but still feeling low on energy. First time I've had it..

HelterSkelter1 Mon 02-Oct-23 13:27:46

Had the booster number 8 on Thursday and was floored on Friday. Never had such a reaction before.
Recovering of Sat and Sun and today feel almost back to normal. Advice to others is not to plan anything busy the day after a booster just in case.

Will look into Phyto V for my daughter with Long Covid for 6 months. Although she hasninvestigated just about every avenue.

Get well soon.

GrandmasueUK Mon 02-Oct-23 13:45:43

Get well soon. I had it for the first time the beginning of last month. Incredibly bad headache, d and v, cough, high temp and aches all over. First 5 days hardly slept but since then been really tired and sleeping so much. I don’t know how long this will last.

HelterSkelter1 Mon 02-Oct-23 13:47:18

PS on the Covid test box it should show the expiry date beside an egg timer symbol. My tests expire in 2024. I will of course keep the plastic containers and swabs but ditch the liquid and tester gadgets if I havent used them by then.
A couple of the plastic containers havent squeezed the liquid out so its useful to have extras.

Missiseff Mon 02-Oct-23 14:07:34

Yep. Had it recently, felt bloomin awful for two weeks, could barely do anything but sleep

Bluesmum Mon 02-Oct-23 14:36:20

I returned from a two week cruise two weeks ago and day after I got home, six out of the nine in our group all tested positive! I personally have never felt so ill , but over the worst now, finally clear when I tested negative on Saturday! Still feeling exhausted with zero energy, and keeping myself to myself for now! Would not wish it on my worst enemy!

Quokka Mon 02-Oct-23 14:43:26

Get well soon

pintuck Mon 02-Oct-23 15:47:05

I've got it at the moment but have just had mild cold symptoms and felt a bit achey. I had my booster a week and a half ago so perhaps that's why it's mild. Feeling more or less back to normal now on day 5. Had to cancel my volunteering stint at our local Covid/Flu jab clinic though!

Mirren Mon 02-Oct-23 17:55:14

I had a preview of the latest strain to hit Northumberland after youngest DD brought it with her from Edinburgh.
We were both really poorly.
Our main symptoms were high fever and severe fatigue.
I had the fatigue much worse than,DD and it was much worse than my last ( and previously only ) bout.
It was also much worse than when I had proper Flu.
I had the total loss of smell and taste but , curiously, no cough.
That was about 5 weeks ago and I am better but still waiting for the energy to return.
