Virtual cruise from Venice along the river Po with the option to learn some Italian

The suggested format is that this is a discussion thread about the places along the route, links allowed, together with the option of synchronised learning of some of the Italian language using the free Duolingo language course. Sort of like a treasure hunt for information, yet no teams, people sharing what they find.

LINK > www.duolingo.com/courses

Participants using Duolingo will need to register, free, with Duolingo.

Registering with Duolingo does, by default, make one's profile public. On a computer, one can make it private by clicking on the blue disc at top right, choosing Settings, scrolling down and then choosing Privacy Settings, then unchecking the checkbox that is labelled Make my profile public.

Does it really matter what virtual food you think you may/may not have on a virtual cruise, on a virtual ship on a virtual river? Really? StarDreamer has just tried to interest people in finding new and exciting places to discover that people like me will never have the opportunity to visit in real life and I've thoroughly enjoyed being shown places that I never knew existed. If you don't like the premise of how he would like to do his virtual tour, no one is being bound, gagged and conscripted to join in; it isn't compulsory to read the thread or join in. It's just a bit of harmless fun. That's all.

This.
An extract from 'Working Abroad'
www.workingabroad.com/blog/the-relationship-between-food-culture-and-travel/

The Relationship Between Food, Culture and Travel

Food and culture are uniquely intertwined with one another. Trying new dishes from a country you’re visiting allows you to get a real flavour for what it’s like to live there, no pun intended. Various ingredients, dishes and seasonings are passed down through food which contributes to the culture of a country. Introducing your taste buds to new delicacies is a surefire way to better understand the history and traditions of the country you’re visiting ...

And again, same article,

I find it interesting to see how our own biases are often challenged or exposed when visiting a new country and travelling around the world. Food can most definitely help you to see the world from a new perspective and gain an understanding or appreciation for what you are able to eat and find at the grocery on a daily basis. Trying a new food can also show or be seen as a sign of respect for the culture you’re being introduced to. Though it may be out of your comfort zone, in my experience, I’ve found that opening up to people through food is a great way to bond and learn about one another ...

Wow, look at this creation. If you look closely it is made with different types of pasta! Only in Italy.

Chewbacca Wed 10-Aug-22 21:42:56

You are welcome to have whatever food you like on this virtual cruise. StarDreamer @ 19.49

Wow indeed Joseanne! that's absolutely magnificent in its madness! Is it part of an exhibition or art installation do you know?

MissAdventure Wed 10-Aug-22 21:47:22

That person must be a pastafarian.

MissAdventure Wed 10-Aug-22 21:54:31

That's compulsory.
Creamy mash and roasted, caramelized onions. A mere smidge of a calorie.

I'm so quick I meet myself coming back, sometimes. grin
Others, not.

Joseanne Wed 10-Aug-22 22:06:33

I think it is an example of sculptures that can be made with pasta. A form of basic Art! We used to make pasta pictures using different shapes with the children in school. And if anyone gets hungry .....

Joseanne Wed 10-Aug-22 22:08:00
