No-one seems to have started a thread so here goes!

Lewis Capaldi is on at the moment, good to see him performing after his health challenges last year. DGD had booked to see him but he cancelled because he was unwell.
He's so much more enjoyable to listen than today's rappers!

I'm looking forward to seeing The Searchers. 🙂

Always have to laugh when someone says 'who is so-and-so anyway'? Just makes the person sound really out of touch.
Anyway, because I couldn't be bothered to type it all out myself, from Wikipedia: "Olivia Rodrigo has had three Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, two US Billboard 200 number-one albums, and eight songs with multi-platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her accolades include an American Music Award, seven Billboard Music Awards, and four MTV Video Music Awards. She was recognized as Time's Entertainer of the Year in 2021, Billboard's Woman of the Year in 2022."

I understand he eulogised about Enoch Powell back in the day. He did give a good performance. But it still leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

I assume you know the political allegiances of all your favourite bands and only follow them if their views align with yours?

As, in general, my favourite music is folk I suppose I do. I got thrown out of my dog walking group for confronting someone in it who openly supported Enoch Powell. I just don’t want some people in my life in any shape or form.

I wish had Rod Stewart’s energy.
I haven’t read any of the GN politics-linked posts on here. I can do that any day.

I just enjoyed watching him on stage.

Rod doesn’t look or act like an 80 year old. He is doing great tonight.

I turned TV on @ 5 and there was some woman called Celeste trying to sing. She sang a few songs and they all sounded more suitable for a funeral. It was dire.

At least Rod gets people up and dancing.

I think it’s a bit odd when older people ( and most on here are well over 60 ) want to ‘be in touch’ with ‘pop music’ & new artists. We’re not their audience 😀

merlotgran Sun 29-Jun-25 20:01:15

If Maggie May was written nowadays she’d be put on some kind of register. 😂

MayBee70 Sun 29-Jun-25 20:03:14

I don’t look out for new artists because I want to be ‘in touch’. I do so because I love music and I think it’s as exciting now as it has ever been. I seem to remember being accused of being pretentious in my teens because I liked T Rex ( as they were then). So I guess I’m still pretentious.

Good grief, seriously? Do you think we should all be listening to Boom Radio?

merlotgran Sun 29-Jun-25 20:12:35

I hope to God Mick Hucknall can still sing.
The wine’s running out!

Yes, exactly! I don't look for new music to 'be in touch' either - and not all new music is 'pop' (which I've never been into anyway).
My musical tastes are nothing if not eclectic - I cut my musical teeth in the heyday of punk and I still listen to many of those bands, but I love discovering new artists.
Indie, emo, rock and metal are my type of music. I'm currently listening to Wolf Alice at Glastonbury.

I’m about to open another one…

Oh nothing wrong with wanting to be down with the kids. it’s just most people kind of stick with the music they grew up with. I like a few bands from the late 90’s / early 00’s ( Greenday etc ) because my teenage children were into them - I was late 30’s / early 40’s then, but still interested in music.
At 62, I’m just not interested anymore really. Just like listening to bands of my youth ( The Smiths for example )

Shinamae Sun 29-Jun-25 20:20:25

I don’t usually bother with Glastonbury at all, but I accidentally tuned into it and Rod Stewart is on and I’m getting very emotional watching it….🙃

That’s good. Glad Ive given you a laugh to cheer up what must be a dull evening.

ViceVersa Sun 29-Jun-25 20:26:10

My evening's not dull at all. Watching Glastonbury - and not having to ask 'who's that'? wink

Kandinsky Sun 29-Jun-25 20:26:56

Haha, Boom radio is actually ok.
But I listen to R2 mostly.
I doubt I’d know much on R1 & hardly anything on Capital. Which is fine.

dogsmother Sun 29-Jun-25 20:27:08

Well I’m loving Rod Stewart and as for the sax player, he’s really, really good.

kittylester Sun 29-Jun-25 20:30:39

Isn't he!!

And Mick Hucknall can still sing!

Good for you. Glad it’s cheering you up. I’m also watching it.

My favourite act yesterday was Yussef Dayes. It was melodic and calming, almost ethereal. DH enjoyed Neil Young.

merlotgran Sun 29-Jun-25 20:41:16

Saints be Praised. 😂

Deedaa Sun 29-Jun-25 20:53:15

I enjoyed Neil Young yesterday and I'm loving Rod Stewart tonight. Mick Hucknall and Ronnie Wood too! It's gone downhill a bit with Lulu. I may be biased because DH used to drive her in the 70s and didn't like her at all. He also drove Olivia Newton John and he adored her!

Nannylovesshopping Sun 29-Jun-25 20:58:42

Am loving Rod tonight❤️

mamaa Sun 29-Jun-25 21:00:54

Thus far I’ve enjoyed Pulp, Sir Rodney (with guests), Nile Rodgers and Snow Patrol…caught a bit of Gary Numan but was a bit too weird for my tastes x

NanKate Sun 29-Jun-25 21:39:51

I thought Lulu was great and loved her outfit. All white tassels.

Mick Hucknall also good also.

Enjoyed most of Rod’s set.
