I sometimes go for a long walk after sunday breakfast
Or I walk to the local park and use the free exercise equipment.
I often see people jogging and I wonder if that would be a better and faster way to burn calories?
Also does anyone know roughly how long it takes to turn a flabby tummy into a fit toned six pack?
Back in 2011 I must have been doing something wrong cause I ended up in hospital for a week with tummy problems.
the pain was horrendous and Lasted for quite sometime Till it finally stopped.
I still do sit ups but I try not to over Do them now!
I'd Just Love to get my flabby tummy toned up and be able to finally wear shirts and t shirts without the unsightly overhang ; 0 (

Cut out fatty stuff such as crisps/ cakes / white bread/ chips unless thick chips done in the oven, eat plenty of fruit in season and fresh veg and cut fat off any meat, walk briskly for half an hour a day increasing to an hour if you can and it will soon fall off,in the meantime to feel better about yourself wear clothes that fit your size.

I worked at the School of Sport & Exercise Sciences and every lecturer said that the only thing the average person needs to do to keep fit and burn calories is swimming, walking and/or cycling (not necessarily in that order).

Jogging or running you need to be careful - if the foot goes down repeatedly at the wrong angle and also if you are wearing footwear not up to absorbing the shock and not supporting your foot well, you can end up with serious joint problems.

Swimming, imo, is a good all-rounder (if you like swimming) as it works every muscle group and improves stamina.

I can't Swim Holly.

Swimming and Pilates and, my teacher says "eat less"! And for me that's the hardest bit.

Why not set yourself a challenge Trevor47 and learn to swim. You can bet your life there's lots of other people who can't swim and but would like to learn

Yes, there are often adult swimming classes at local pools. Try it, it's so relaxing.

But that still leaves the walking and cycling Trevor smile

Trevor have you thought of aqua aerobics you don't have to be able to swim it is held in a depth of water you are comfortable with, maybe your local sports centre has it on one of their fitness programmes, worth a try.

Eat less

½ hour ride before breakfast 3 or 4 times a week. Have a coffee before you go. Arrive for breakfast on the edge of bonk.

It ain't fancy, Hollywood dieticians can't make a fortune pushing it, but it plain and simple works.

I use a rebounder (mini-trampoline) for exercise and absolutely love it.

I don't jump on it, far too energetic but it's fantastic for jogging without the risk of impact injuries. I watch the telly whilst I'm on it. Usually 30-40 minutes in the morning before work.

I've lost about a stone in the last 8 weeks. I'm such a couch potato and haven't really excercised until buying this

They're only about £30 from Decathlon . Can't recommend highly enough

I read that walking is the best exercise - myfitnesspal.com has an app that gives you a daily programme to get you to 10,000 steps a day. I think everyoneactive.com has an app for starting to run called 'Couch to 5K' I think - might try that one myself although I do play a lot of golf and walk so not much time for anything else.

Edge of what? confused

Is that a horse or a bike? confused again

merlotgran Mon 01-Jun-15 10:08:16

confused Me too, jingl grin

The mind boggles.

merlotgran Mon 01-Jun-15 10:09:52

I dig the garden. Digging is wonderful for toning up tummy muscles.

Not sure I still have any tummy muscles and it's tough on the knees but I still reckon it does me good hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 01-Jun-15 10:19:16

Yes. I am a great believer in digging. Don't think I can get away with digging any more of it up though. DH reckons he won't be able to get the mower round. hmm

Gagagran Mon 01-Jun-15 10:26:42

bonk is a term used in sports to say when you run out of energy. It's like someone turning your engine off and you need something sweet - fast!

merlotgran Mon 01-Jun-15 10:33:10

Thanks, Gagagran but if I stagger in from the garden saying I'm on the edge of bonk, DH might have a heart attack grin

I read this somewhere and it has always stuck in my mind....
Eat less, move more.

Walking is the most natural exercise. A colleague at work took up running when he was 40 and by the time he was 45 he had shot his hips and knees. You may burn more calories running but is it worth it.

Riverwalk Mon 01-Jun-15 11:33:42

merlot grin

Yes, surely bonk means sex!

vampirequeen Mon 01-Jun-15 11:41:52

Apparently it means:

to be exhausted during exercise (to the point where you can't continue)

to bang something e.g to bang your head/to bonk your head

to have sex

Read today in the daily mail (so it must be true) that bouncing on a large trampoline burns more calories than jogging.

vampirequeen Mon 29-Jun-15 17:02:14

And sounds much more fun grin
