No snack February

What a good idea.

I'm in shysal but can we be clear on what counts as a snack and what doesn't please?

Are we talking crisps, biscuits, chocolate etc. ? In which case only the lack of crisps will bother me. I usually have an apple mid day to keep me going at work is that still okay or not?

I think you can't snack on anything which comes in a packet. Apples ok.

My first thought suzied when I saw your post was that simplifies it. Well said.

Then I thought 'aren't nuts a healthy snack, what about raisins ?' It's a minefield or are we saying no to all snacks ?

Nuts are part of a healthy diet, raisins less so.

I'll join you Shysal and I'd define snacks to be avoided as anything high carb or high sugar.

Nuts ok as part of a meal instead of meat but not healthy when salted, covered in oil etc. You can buy them loose in Lidl. I would avoid nuts as snacks when in a packet.

For me a snack will be anything eaten between meals. Evenings are a bad time for me, when I am often to be found gazing into the fridge when not even hungry!

I agree with you shysal in "anything between meals".
I will have a piece of fresh fruit with lunch but no more hunks of cheese when cooking and nothing out of a packet or wrapper.
This is much more appealing to me than Dry January (which I didn't even attempt).

Can I join in? just had news I am now in the diabetic range so really need to give up the snacks

Oh dear tanith. Apples will be a permissible snack for you as will almonds (which I find kept BG levels down when I was pre-diabetic)

Okay I think I am still with it although I might still need an apple or banana mid morning as I usually have a very long gap between my breakfast (if I have any) and lunch on work days.

I've been attempting it. Well, sort of as I do have a snack between meals as I manage a hiatus hernia by having three small meals and two snacks. So I have two healthy snacks - banana or Ryvetta instead of chocolate digestives. No biscuits or crisps!

I had lost a couple of pounds until we had roast beef a couple of nights ago which involve the consumption of two small roast potatoes, one Yorkshire pud and a glass of wine!

It's the Ryvetta that's a problem. Processed and comes in a packet!

I think I'll join you all. It's going to be difficult though. We have a shelf unit in the kitchen that is absolutely stacked with snacks. DH works in the Co-op and cannot resist a Bahrain. He buys the reduced or discontinued lines! Look!!

I'm in. My problem time is when watching TV in the evening. I often grab a handful of nuts when passing the cupboard. Healthy, but bad for my waistline.
I'm going to attempt to not eat anything between meals.

I'm fine all day, I hardly ever snack on anything. After dinner though, oh dear.... I know I'm not hungry but it's one thing after the other!

I've decided to do 'Sugar Free February' for cancer research. Hard, but not so hard as 'Dry January'. Struggling for donators, which means no one that knows me thinks I can do it!

I did not do dry January. However we gave a Chinese New Year party and a guest left us a bottle of Eisberg alcohol free white wine. Its great. I am planning to stock it in my fridge for summer drinking.

The Sainsburys own make, sparkling (alcohol free) white wine is lovely too EmilyHarburn I can thoroughly recommend it.

I don't think I could do a dry month. A week, maybe two but that would be it.

I normally manage to go between 8 and 12 hours in between meals. So just two meals a day. Snacking becomes a habit, it's finding something else to think about to take your mind off food. Remember it is fuel, do you need extra fuel? Have a brew or a drink of water in the evening. It's getting out of the habit that is needed. Good luck everyone Xxx

I am finding it more difficult now DH is retired as he will pick all the time and I can hardly throw all his snacks out too, although he could also do with snacking less. He also makes lunch and I hate to keep saying oh go ahead have yours I'll just have soup..
These things are sent to try us , evenings are my worst time too.

I am on the very last day of Dry January I think I will wait until March or April to do a 'no snack month'. This will be good for me to do as I am terrible with snacks, cakes, etc. Just cant get the momentum of will at the moment. Mind you I am considering carrying on being 'dry' for February as well as TBH I haven't missed alcohol as much as I thought.
