Frugal February

Anyone like to join me in this?

You can set your own ‘frugal’ guidelines but the aim is to eat and drink in a more restrained (and healthy) manner that usual just for 28 days.

I did this last year and lost those few extra pounds that nobody wants. For those who have more than a few pounds to shift it can kick start a real weight loss plan for 2018.

It can be combined with 16:8 and any other ‘diets’ you are following.

So, anyone out there want to join in for 28 days and we’ll share ideas and support each other? ?

Hey funnygran if you lose 2lb every month you’ll be almost 2 stone lighter this time next year.

travels the theory is you don’t eat anything after your last meal at night and delay breakfast eg last meal 6.00pm breakfsst 10.00am so you’ve fasted for those 16 hours (about 7 of which you are asleep anyway) that allows you just 8 hours to feed. But you can’t go beserk during those 8 hours just eat sensibly.

In truth I finish my last meal 7.00pm and breakfast 15 hours later and that works best for me.

Yes, you can do it bluebell ??

I've been sticking to 16:8 since Christmas and sadly it hasn't worked for me the way the 5:2 did initially. Back to the two 500 calorie days for me, I think, hoping that the change of regime will get rid of those Christmas love handles!

Teetime Thu 01-Feb-18 09:08:38

I have been doing 1400 calories a day all January and only lost 3 lbs - disappointed - is there any point in this at all?

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:13:13

I’m on a Nhs 1400 calories a day plus I’ve added in a low carb and 15/9 diet.
So here goes

Breakfast at 8.30
Kipper fillet 87 calories
Two cups of tea @5 each = 10
Glass of pure orange juice Approx 200 shock
Total 297

Tomorrow it will be a small glass of orange juice at Approx 112 calories.

I weigh in at 12 13and 3/4.

Best of luck to us all!!

It’s my birthday today (72) so off to a meal with my sister this evening which will muck it up but I will keep firmly on the path with everything and everyone else

Happy day all

Maggiemaybe Thu 01-Feb-18 09:15:43

I do wonder sometimes, Teetime, but I suppose we have to keep plodding on. Right, my version of Frugal February will be back to the 5:2 and some carb reduction. And I might incorporate a few other tortures tips from this thread as it goes along. Good luck all!

Maggiemaybe Thu 01-Feb-18 09:17:08

Happy Birthday, whitewave!

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:25:47

smile thank you

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 09:33:19

Whitewave I’d normally post a birthday cake and a glass of champagne but that doesn’t seem right today so just a Very Happy Birthday ?⭐️?

Re ‘what’s the point?’ good question....would others like to answer that perhaps.

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:33:51

Oh teetime That’s what I’m doing. Blow! Had hoped for better ........but on the other hand

3x12= 36lb /14=2 and a bit stone

Now that would be good

Keep on keeping on girl!!

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 09:35:36

WW seriously, I’d lose the orange juice. Never touch it myself and it’s full of sugar. Think about it.

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:38:22

Here’s my theory of the day (probably be different tomorrow)

I reckon if you can find a diet that you can easily stick to which probably means nothing daft or drastic this will mean slower weight lose but hopefully sustained.

But on the other hand the trust me I’m a doctor bloke says that drastic diets work best confused

Best just to stick your finger in the air grin

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:40:36

meg yes you are right. At the moment I have 1 and 3/4 litre of fresh squeezed orange juice in fridge door,! I can’t waste that shock

I’ll finsh that and buy no more I think.

whitewave Thu 01-Feb-18 09:42:13

Bugger!! I’ve been so busy posting on here in the middle of ironing I’ve just burnt the cover!!

Good bye!

I'm starting today with a trip to the supermarket for some healthy shopping - will definitely ignore the cake aisle.

Also, I thought I'd weigh myself so I can measure progress. Great news - since I moved house a week ago I have lost a stone! Sadly, I think this is due to the cushionfloor covering in the new bathroom, and not some miracle moving house diet. Still, for a minute there I thought I'd cracked it.....

Happy Frugal February everyone!

MawBroon Thu 01-Feb-18 10:04:10

grin millbrook -a drastic way to lose weight, but worth it!

MesMopTop Thu 01-Feb-18 10:19:07

Happy birthday Whitewave ? I don’t think the 16:8 diet would work for me as I work all kinds of weird hours. I’m doing the smaller plate and as unprocessed as possible. Went to the supermarket today, absolutely no sweets or treats. Breakfast was a bit late, cornflakes, low fat milk and tea. Late lunch/early tea green leaf mix, tomato, fresh beetroot, skinless toast chicken and slice whole meal bread with scrape of butter. Mug of tea before bed. I try to chew my food longer and wait between mouthfuls as I’m guilty of eating quickly. Fresh fruit in the basket if I really get the urge to snack. Forgot to weigh myself today do will do that tomorrow. Even losing a couple of pounds is so much better than putting them on, so good luck ladies ?

MesMopTop Thu 01-Feb-18 10:21:36

Haha, just noted an ad below my post advertising find form of fruit juice. “Drink this in the morning and you will need smaller clothes” it says. Don’t we all wish........

NanKate Thu 01-Feb-18 11:05:06

I went for a 20 minute walk just now in the freezing cold weather. I could only do up the first 3 buttons on my thick faux fur coat as I have put on about a stone around my hips. ? I must do something pdq.

So I too shall cut back/out snacks and sweets. The trouble with me is that I am good for a day or two and then I slip back into my old ways. So here goes.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 11:16:02

I read something that said the longer you have to keep food in your moth before swallowing the better it is for you. Think cakes etc. that dissolve quickly and nuts etc. that take a lot of chewing. Not sure if it's correct though.

My frugal week has so far consisted of 1 very large chicken cooked on Monday evening when it was dinner for DH and I, my dad and 3 grandchildren. Chicken pasta bake on Tuesday, sandwiches for work on Wednesday and enough left for a curry tonight. Cluck cluck cluck

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 11:16:40

Mouth not moth [stupid phone]

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 11:29:12

Well I won’t be doing a lot of chewing Gilly. Just back from dentist. He’s removed a crown from back molar and not put in a temporary one ??. Warns me not to chew on ‘that side’ for next two weeks until new crown is fitted. Looks like I'm on a liquid diet as I find it almost impossible to chew on one side.

Can others do that?

Re your chicken Gilly - didn’t you boil the carcass up for stock? Makes great soup.

gillybob Thu 01-Feb-18 11:34:24

I would normally OldMeg but I already have a few bags of stock in the freezer.

Another one of my frugal tricks is to always cook more veg than I need. I mash all the leftovers together and freeze to have as bubble and squeak at a later date.

Poor you...(re the dentist) . How can you not chew on one side for 2 weeks? seems a very long time.

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 11:59:46

Yes, feeling very sorry for myself.

I hope you’ve labelled your stock. Last time I defrosted some chicken stock it turned out to be apple sauce ??

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 12:01:01

PS love bubble and squeak - made with corned beef. Wouldn’t have to chew that much would I?
