On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Good to know you are feeling better Whiff.
A loss of .8 lb for me this week. Weight now 139lbs. Pleased to get under 10st at last but I need to "battle on" and shift some midriff bulge. Good luck everyone.

Dec46 Tue 18-Feb-20 10:49:36

weigh in day for me and I'm down 1lb. Like most of us I'm wishing for warmer weather to encourage me to get moving more.
Congatulations to all losers and to others don't give up just keep on trying. x

Whiff Tue 18-Feb-20 16:57:00

Dec46 well done. Must admit I do like the winter months. Hearty veg soup for lunch and stew with little meat but plenty of veg and pearl barley for dinner. As you can see like it for the food didn't mean I like the weather.

Shirleyw Tue 18-Feb-20 21:24:15

Glad your on the mend whif
It's pretty windy still , driving rain just now, belting down on the conservatory roof, had to higher up the telly lol.

Yennifer Wed 19-Feb-20 11:08:44

Well done everyone, I'm still 10.3 this week so still a pound above my lowest weight of 10.2. Remembering that I only fail if I give up! Not long till I go away in a few weeks, be nice to be 10 stone by then x

Yennifer Wed 19-Feb-20 19:28:20

The last few days I've gone from comfort eating everything in sight to being very low and not eating much at all. I feel like food is too much a big part of life sometimes. People used to just eat to fuel their bodies and now food seems to be such a crutch x

Nannylovesshopping Wed 19-Feb-20 19:43:27

Yennifer completely agree with you, I am so food focused, as eating lunch often wonder what I will eat at dinner.
I eat when I’m angry, sad and happy
Am on day 10 on my new eating plan for life, and all I’m thinking about is food☹️

Whiff Thu 20-Feb-20 07:25:11

Yennifer and Nannylovesshopping I used to feel that way about food. Especially the first year of this diet. It does become easier. After that time food is no longer all I think about. Because I live on my own I suppose what I have for my meals is easier. Porridge for breakfast, soup and bread for lunch and some sort of stew , followed by yogurt and fruit for dinner. My snacks are usually a slice of toast low fat spread and my home made marmalade and dry bite size shredded wheat ,shops own with blueberry in the middle. Found I like these instead of rich tea finger biscuits. I'm no angel and some days have extra toast or bowl of porridge for supper. Hence my weight has been the same for 6 weeks but I'm fine with that.

Shirleyw thank you my cold has almost gone and my bruises are a fetching yuk yellow with a bit of red. Went out with my daughter and grandson yesterday to choose all the things for my new shower room which is being done at the end of March.

Take care everyone.

Hello everyone, and what a mixed bag of results we are all having. No change again for me. Is that "sadly" no loss, or "gladly" no gain. Have to have a good think about what to do to nudge that set point down a bit. Any ideas?

Whiff Thu 20-Feb-20 17:53:25

Lindadoughty650 my children tell to to celebrate any achievement no matter how small. Even staying the same is an achievement. So that is what I do. You need to see what you can celebrate even it's a little thing. One of the things for me is being able to wear my first ever ankle boots as an adult, another is my first dress for decades at Christmas. What's yours?

Shirleyw Fri 21-Feb-20 06:44:23

3 and a half down, well pleased with that .

Marelli Fri 21-Feb-20 07:21:01

I'm teetering on the edge of the next stone which I need to lose. A quarter, half, three- quarters of a pound over and back again. Tantalising - why do scales do this to us!

Whiff Fri 21-Feb-20 08:03:59

Shirleyw well done. Bet you had to weight yourself twice to make sure. Marelli losing it slowly is best I have found. The old me lost quickly but it always went back on quicker. Be kind to yourself we don't do that often enough.

lindadoughty650 Fri 21-Feb-20 11:54:31

Thank you Whiff for the encouragement. It has taken me a year of small losses, but a nice pair of smart trousers keeps falling down and gong baggy round the bum and crotch. I should really get rid of them. I wonder if subconsciously I have been hanging onto them just in case I gain again. Self fulfilling prophecy there. I will chuck 'em out today. Thanks.

Shirleyw Fri 21-Feb-20 13:05:40

haha yes whif i did...
Have a good weekend everyone.

NanKate Fri 21-Feb-20 14:03:34

Shirley ???

Whiff Sun 23-Feb-20 07:12:21

Another week and the same weight. 7 weeks the same. Still I am looking on that as an achievement. Think I need to cut out the snacks and replace them with extra drinks. Try that this week. Hopefully March will see it moving again. Hope you are all ok and no one is flooded.

Marelli Sun 23-Feb-20 07:58:53

Whiff, you are an inspiration to us. The amount of times I have started 'diets' over the years... well, they've lasted perhaps a couple of weeks before they - and I - fell by the wayside. This time, and since end of Nov, I've lost a stone! 4 ounces off a stone, actually, but near enough. I don't think my knee is feeling quite as achy, either. Bosom has collapsed further, however ?!

Whiff Sun 23-Feb-20 08:50:02

Marelli thank you for saying that. Well done for losing almost a stone. As my brother would say 4oz is a big wee. Unfortunately the one place I didn't want to lose inches was my bust. Never been well endowed there. But have lost 8" from them . Standing up no bra they are heading south but lying on my back they are flat. I can just imagine the teasing my late husband would give me about them. Two fried eggs!
As in life it's all swings and roundabouts with weight loss. I have found the negatives are out weighted by the positives. Hope you all have a good week.

Shirleyw Sun 23-Feb-20 16:55:37

whif i would love to knock off 8"from my boobys lol...

I havent seen fourormore on here lately...hope all is ok...

NanKate Sun 23-Feb-20 18:50:42

You are right Shirley nothing from Four since early in Feb. I will send her a pm to check her out and report back. Thanks for being observant Shirley.

Shirleyw Sun 23-Feb-20 20:12:53

Great greatnankate, please send on my best

fourormore Sun 23-Feb-20 20:28:20

Hi all! Thank you all for your lovely concern - please be reassured that I will be back! Outside influences have taken over our lives at the moment making any commitment difficult and I have had to put my weight-loss efforts on hold temporarily.
I will return though and BEWARE I am watching you all grin
It is so lovely that so many newbies have stayed - well done all of you and I will be back nagging again soon!!!
I am so pleased to see how well the newbies have all settled in and taken on the support efforts.
flowers flowers flowers to you all! Keep up the good work and thanks for your concern!

NanKate Sun 23-Feb-20 21:48:07

The 3 Musketeers are back in action. ???‍♀️???

CocoPops Mon 24-Feb-20 01:53:38

No loss this week. Weight 139 lbs. I did not deserve to lose anything because I lost the plot when at a lecture on Wednesday. There was a tray of cakes and cookies that I couldn't resist. Then I went to a Thai restaurant on Friday evening and had a good stuff. However I did OK with exercise and went swimming 3 times. Will try harder this week. Good luck everyone.
