On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Start weight was 146.4lbs.
Today 133.8 lbs.
Progress very slow at the moment.
I walk my dog twice a day. I'm going to take her for an extra walk after dinner every evening and see if that will help.

Well done Cocopops it looks like an excellent weight loss to me. ?

Whiff Sun 07-Jun-20 07:41:00

Cocopops that is a great weight loss.
Put on .75,lb this week but am at my daughter's home. Think I am fitter though yesterday was the first day my knees didn't hurt going up the stairs. Must have developed bunga knees as I have been in my bungalow since August. Running after a 2 year is also getting me fitter.

Work on my bungalow is going well. Kitchen is painted looks lovely picked the right colour. My bedroom is all plastered and new loft hatch fitted in there. New ceiling in the shower room. Found a problem when they took out the old toilet with the pipes but that is being put right. But until they start work and rip out old stuff you never know what you are going to find. Already told them just put it right and add it to the bill.

Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 07-Jun-20 10:07:35

Well done Coco - I have lost 0.2lb this week but am happy as I am staying the same and not putting on, in spite of leading this very unusual sedentary life.
The mammoth photo-sort is going well - Album No:1 is now completed and holds the ones dated from pre 1910 through to the end of the 1940s. That sounds more than it is as obviously there weren't so many photos around in those years!
I have completed the 1950s and am well into the 60s but there is still a huge pile as the 70s onwards have our wedding etc. and then obviously kids and grandkids came along with millions of photos! It will be a few weeks yet until job done but slowly does it!!!
Lovely to hear all is going well Whiff - like my photos it will be brilliant when all finished!
Good luck everyone for another week flowersflowersflowers

Up 2lbs ? Was expected, have had a strange few weeks but hopefully DH is on the mend...,,,I will be eating better this week....stress/worry does weird things doesn't it guys?

Beechnut Mon 08-Jun-20 06:50:34

Just 1/4lb off for me this week. I’m feeling a little despondent over my efforts but have some food in the fridge to potentially makes some nice meals in the hope that it bucks my ideas up ?

NanKate Mon 08-Jun-20 07:34:48

Keep going Beechnut we all have down periods.

It was DH’s birthday this past weekend and I had birthday cake, tiramisu and other goodies. I know I will pay for my misdemeanours but it was worth it. Back to cutting back and moving more.

Onward and downward girls. ?

Whiff Tue 09-Jun-20 06:07:03

Well done all losers. When I weigh myself again on Sunday expect to gain again. My daughter and family are vegetarian but do eat salmon. But it's full fat everything. But I am enjoying all the lovely dinners . At home I tend to have porridge for breakfast, soup and bread for lunch and stew for dinner followed by yogurt and fruit. Here I have porridge, bagel and cream cheese, tomato and cucumber. Last night was a lovely risotto with Stilton cheese, veg and garlic bread. Have decided when I go home need to vary my diet. Stick to breakfast and lunch but some sort of low cal versions of what I am having here. Well that's the intension. Knowing me it will last a few days and back to tried and tested. Do others who live on their own have the same thing or do you make an effort to have variety?

Beechnut Tue 09-Jun-20 08:35:46

I can be a bit samey Whiff. So I’m trying to think about variety when I shop. The thing about being on your own is that everything lasts a bit longer.

CocoPops Sat 13-Jun-20 20:23:33

Down 0.4 lb this week which is better than a poke in the eye as my late Mum would say!
Hope your bungalow looks great Whiff and Yes, I vary my meals a lot. I am always trying new recipes and find it really helps me stay on the band-wagon.

Whiff Sun 14-Jun-20 09:00:19

Well done Cocopops. Pleased to say I have lost a pound this week. Must be all the lovely vegetarian food my daughter's been cooking. Had a problem at the bungalow with the pipe from the toilet but that is all fixed. Hole is filled on the drive now. Went on Friday they were laying the floor and wall tiles. Bedroom will be painted this week.

On a sad note found out via another forum I am on my daughter in law has been bad mouthing me on Reddit. One of the other posters sent me the link. Only read a bit and got very upset. Passed it to my daughter who read it. So no point in contacting my son. As apparently he was the one who read through the other thread and realised which one was me. My daughter found the reference to her as unemployable very funny as she is highly educated with a degree and in her working life had a vast budget and large teams to work with at the universities she worked at.

I will not be changing my username as it was what my husband called me. Hope they enjoy my future posts. I have got over worse things I will get over this.

Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 14-Jun-20 17:00:19

Well done Whiff losing a pound is great and it's good to hear that things are going well with your bungalow.

I'm delighted to say I have lost 0.8 of a pound this week which is good. All through lock-down I have remained more or less the same which is a miracle as I am not getting anywhere near the exercise I would normally get.

I am still working on my photo-sort mission! Yesterday I completed Volume Five which ended with 1987 so I only have another 30 plus years to go! It was easy at the start because there weren't many photos dating back in the late 1800s and earlier 1900s! Once I got to the 1970s the pile of photos grew! The 1980s are worse having three kids in under 4 years!
Sadly, although being 'shielded' has eased a little, we still need to stay at home as much as absolutely possible - we have two seriously ill relations at the moment so cannot take any risks. We may need to dash away at any time to support family.
Good luck to everyone as we start another week in this weird world!

Beechnut Mon 15-Jun-20 06:34:03

1/4lb off for me this week.
In the beginning of lockdown When shop shelves were stripped bare I thought I would lose plenty of weight by having to go careful with my food store. It’s good that the stores are well stocked of course but my plan has backfired on me, never mind.

Beechnut Mon 15-Jun-20 06:34:50

Good luck to you all with this weeks weigh in.

Shirleyw Mon 15-Jun-20 19:04:18

down 1 and a quarter pounds.....shock horror lol

Whiff Tue 16-Jun-20 05:31:58

Beechnut and Shirleyw well done at your losses. The strange life we live at the moment has become the norm so may be that's why some of us are showing losses again. Who knows what is waiting for us around the corner. Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 21-Jun-20 10:12:13

Exactly the same this week - fine with that as I have been quite attached to the kitchen table doing my photographs project so not moving much!
Good news is that I am in 2003 - bad news is there are are heaps of photos in that decade and the 2010s due to our children's weddings and the births of 5 out of six GC. Sorting which ones to keep takes time!
Keep up the good work everyone - we all seem to be stable or losing a bit - aren't we doing well hmm
Seriously - it would have been so easy for us all just to relieve the boredom by comfort eating so well done all of us!!! flowers

Beechnut Sun 21-Jun-20 10:35:54

That’s an encouraging comment fourormore thank you ?

Whiff Sun 21-Jun-20 13:19:13

Same here fourormore. Weight the same as last week. But have been eating differently. As my daughter and family are vegetarian. Had the most tasteful vegan gluten free pie. Made locally. It was potato and not meat. The pastry was lovely you would not have know it wasn't a rich short crust. Been having toasted teacake for elevens each day bliss. Haven't had meat for 3 weeks . Now the shower room is all fitted out and the decorator is starting to paint my bedroom tomorrow should get home this week sometime. Will definitely alter my eating habit. Decided to eat meat for 4 dinners and veggie the other 3. Hopefully start losing more weight fingers crossed.

fourormore Sun 21-Jun-20 14:28:28

How lovely to hear of your experience Whiff seems like you have a plan. So pleased to hear too that the building work has gone well . Our 'man' is painting the outside of our palace this week but he will be outside and we will hide indoors! Will be lovely when it's done!
Will be lovely when we can get back to 'proper normal' and be able to pop out for a bus trip or mooch around the shops but we still believe in 'if we don't have to go anywhere we won't! It's great you've had time with your little one too!
Enjoy your time with your family and then enjoy being back in your 'new' home! flowers

CocoPops Tue 23-Jun-20 03:09:55

A black mark for me. I gained 1.8lbs because I indulged in comfort eating because I was worrying over something. Also had a big slice of GD's birthday cake! Must try harder!
Actually, I am surprised that merely maintaining weight loss is not much easier than losing weight. Do you agree?
Good luck everyone.

NanKate Tue 23-Jun-20 07:29:57

I do so agree Cocopops, however what is good now is that we own up and get back on track. In the old days if I put weight back on it almost gave me permission to give up and we know where that leads. Losing weight is a mind game.

Onward and downward girls ?

Whiff Tue 23-Jun-20 18:25:12

Maintaining weight loss takes as much effort and hard work as lossing it. Don't know why but it seems to be. Cocopops no black marks just as a friend of mine calls them tiny wobbles. All the work on my bungalow should be finished by Friday. Then everywhere will need cleaning. That should burn off some calories. Went today everywhere looks lovely. The garden will need a good weeding next week so more exercise. Have a good week everyone.

Whiff Tue 23-Jun-20 18:29:37

Fourormore forgot to ask how is the painting going? What colour will the outside be ?

fourormore Tue 23-Jun-20 18:55:43

The Palace is taking shape! Thanks for asking Whiff !!!
Today is only day 2 so it's all been preparation so far.
Over the weekend our son-in-law took apart and repaired the back gate which was great but because of rain he couldn't complete it and had to finish it yesterday morning.
So that they could keep the 'distance' the 'wall' man started at the front but the sun hits the front in the mornings and the back in the afternoon. Poor man baked at the front and then moved to start on the back just as the sun hit that side! It was too strong for him to work for very long and we didn't want him passing out at the top of his ladder! shock
Today was better for him as he started at the back in the cool! Huge progress made today, but bless him, he assured us that if he does need to stop early because of the heat it won't affect the bill!
Colour-wise it will be the same as before - boring classic whitewash with black window sills etc.
Thanks for asking - you keep safe and enjoy your home improvements when you get home! flowers
