On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Morning Girls. Pleased to see we are all keeping an eye on our weight. I think it is so important that when we come out of Lockdown we are in a reasonable condition weight wise.

Will weigh myself on Thursday. Have had a few glasses of chilled wine recently, will have to see what the result is ?

CocoPops Tue 26-May-20 00:36:20

Whiff I hope all goes well for you on Friday and pleased to hear you've lost a bit more weight.
fourormore and Whiff I am inspired by your organasional skills and about to reorganise messy freezer.
NanKate I agree. Like it or not (and I do not!) we have to accept physical distancing and the lack of liberty and dammed difficult though it is we will feel all the better for achieving our goal re weight loss.
After slackening off a bit I decided to get back to it and have lost 2lbs this week by reducing the carbs.
Altogether I have lost 12.8 lbs.
Joy of joys my hairdresser was the first person to notice and comment on Friday which buoyed me up no end.

Whiff Tue 26-May-20 06:12:20

Cocopops well done. Must admit I am list mad. I even have a list of whatsb in my freezer. Blame my dad for that. When freezers became affordable for everyone in the 70's my dad brought a large chest freezer. He always made a list of what was in it and marked off if anything was taken out. I started doing the same when I got married in 1981. I even mark down how much is a a bag of veg. Not by weight buy whole, half or quarter of pack. My daughter wishes she did the same as a few months ago found out she had 5 packets of Quorn sausages open in her freezer. Lists and planning keep me organised. I have to write everything down on my calendar or I would forget things. Perfect example. Yesterday was convinced my friend was calling at 10. Two minutes past checked calendar it's today she's phoning. Doh,!

NanKate a lot of us will be aware of not getting to close to people and shopping will be different. But the majority of us will just adjust and it will become the norm. Unfortunately as during lockdown their are idiots who think they know best. Look at that demonstration Corbin's brother organised. How many policemen and women put their lives at risk breaking it up. Cummings thinking he is better than anyone else. By my daughter is a lovely park she takes my grandson to everyday. The park area has been locked since lockdown. When they went last week a couple of parents had lifted their children over the fence and were on the equipment. My grandson who is 2 keep saying shut shut. He got so upset he understood it was shut but got upset that children where playing and he couldn't. My daughter had to carry a distort crying little boy home.

We are not by nature solitary we need human contact. We all know how much we miss our families. But we do what we must. As parents were are hard wired to protect our children no matter how old they are. I post on another forum. So I will tell you what my son has done as you where all so wonderful when I went through 4 days of hellish loneliness.
It was my birthday on the 30th he came and spent 2 hours with me at a distance of course. On the 4th he sent me an awful email. Accusing me of all sorts going back 20+ years. It ended by him saying not to contact him or his wife and I was not welcome at their home. He loves me but doesn't like me and has felt this way for years. Up until the lockdown he and my 2 grandson's came every Friday for lunch and spent 4-6 hours with me. I have known since February they are expecting a baby. It's a boy due end of July. I have been told noone will see the baby until he has had all his vaccines. Which is a year. Bet their friends will though. My daughter in law's mother has lived with them for got to be 6 years now. I have never been a jealous person. And I get on very well with her and my daughter's in law's. As you might guess I am heartbroken and anger has taken over . Also never thought of my son as a coward before but to do this is beneath him.

Thank goodness I still have my daughter and family. My son know knows my health problems but does not care. I sent am email back saying if that's how he wants it so be it. But there will be a reckoning but on my terms. He wants to know what I have keep to myself for the last 20 years since his dad was diagnosed with cancer and told he wouldn't live 5 years. He was 12 when we had to tell him. I don't want the 20 years of memories I have of my husband death then what I went through with my parents and mother in law. By the time I finish with him he will wish he could scrub his brain clean. If he never wants to see me again I will make sure I live long enough for my grandson's to be teenagers and they will be told what he has done. Vindictive you bet.

I knew there was a reason that we're all staying the same weight!
Obviously we are losing but the weight of uncut hair is cancelling out our losses !!!

Whiff Thu 28-May-20 13:34:16

Fourormore you have given me a good laugh. I'll tell my daughter she will love it.

fourormore Thu 28-May-20 20:42:42

Glad to be of assistance Whiff !!! grin
I will have to add this to my book of excuses!

Trouble is I cannot tell you any more because NanKate may be watching grin

NanKate Thu 28-May-20 21:53:10

fourormore Fri 29-May-20 08:49:21

(Knew you were watching!!!)

NanKate Fri 29-May-20 08:53:22

yes Four pure medicinal, but it tasted scrummie.

I have put on 1 lb in a month, so that's ok in my book.

Onward and downward girls.

NanKate Fri 29-May-20 08:54:00

Purely not pure !

Whiff Fri 29-May-20 20:03:57

Thank you for your good wishes. Test went well but had to have it done 3 times. After the first time heard the words we can see the bubbles but not where we expected. Save telling the whole saga. Because I stayed so still they got very clear images. Turns out haven't got a whole in my heart but bubbles where coming front my lungs. Told me not to worry but told them I don't worry about things I have no control over. It's something I may be born with. But the cardiologist will get in touch with me and explain it more and whether I need more tests or nothing can be done. Just wait and see. So I will just carry on as normal.

NanKate Fri 29-May-20 21:49:50

I like your attitude Whiff

Whiff Sun 31-May-20 07:29:02

My weight has stayed the same. Won't be able to weigh myself for a couple of weeks as I will be staying with my daughter and family while having a new shower room fitted and others works done inside my bungalow. Hope everyone has had a good week one way or another.

Fourormore hope my message made sense I didn't read it back before sending it.

Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 31-May-20 10:30:29

Sunday weigh in showed a loss of 0.2lb which basically is a hiccup so no change. I'm happy with that though as no 'proper' exercise like my swimming etc. will be possible for weeks, possibly months yet.sad

This week we discovered that DH is on the 'Shield' list but we had never received notification! To be honest, if you know you have a lung problem do you really need a letter to tell you that you are at high risk hmmhmm

Fortunately he has a 'good woman' behind him (!) who insisted, from a week before lock-down was compulsory, that we were staying in, so he was shielded without us needing to be told!
We had just started to take a short walk a couple of times a week but that is now not allowed while GP reviews.

Still I prefer stay the same weight and stay alive than go for a walk and catch the virus. Sadly, I feel the relaxation of lock-down measures is still very risky as there will always be those who know better and take stupid risks. There could so easily be a second wave and we really don't want that!

SINday today!!! gringringrin
Have a good week everyone and most importantly keep safe!!! flowersflowersflowers

CocoPops Mon 01-Jun-20 03:30:47

No loss, no gain this week. Have a lovely week everyone.

Beechnut Mon 01-Jun-20 06:14:53

A loss of 1/2 lb this week. I’m finding this harder than I thought for the time of year. four has just mentioned swimming and I realised I am missing doing that.
Wishing you all a good week ?

luckyrose62 Mon 01-Jun-20 07:22:21

I started the other week, but did not do well as I got a uti I am now on 3rd lot of antibiotics, so fingers crossed I get rid of it this time. As before I am still looking for an online calorie counter that works for free.
I have downloaded the 12 week nhs plan but I cannot get the calorie counter to work. Do any of you know a good free calorie counter. Thanks

NanKate Mon 01-Jun-20 07:26:27

Glad we all have our eyes on the scales, as it is so easy to let things slip and the weight creeps back on.

Happy 1st June to you all. ?

NanKate Mon 01-Jun-20 08:52:16

Hello Luckyrose.

I found the NHS diet plan worked for me and their calorie counter too, which I think I downloaded separately. If you go online and type in free calorie counter there are quite a few that come up.

Best of luck.

Whiff Mon 01-Jun-20 12:04:32

Beechnut well done with the loss.

At my daughter's and we went to the park this morning. Realised how unfit I am after chasing after a 2 year my legs feel it.
Thought the gardening would keep me fit. But hadn't done any long walks since lockdown and walking for a hour is telling. By the time I go home should be fitter or ready for the knackers yard.
Have a good day everyone.

Shirleyw Mon 01-Jun-20 16:33:31

I have maintained this week, very lucky and pleased with that...hope to have a decent weight loss next week.

That was nice to have a walk and a sprint with your grandchild whif

Half a pound is good beechnut.

stay safe

luckyrose62 Tue 02-Jun-20 09:25:32

Jishere Fri 05-Jun-20 13:05:32

Hi All does anyone else get sugar cravings ?I'm menopausal but it is the bane of my life having put on alot of weight. What does others Do? I'm on two weeks leave from work and I know this is the ideal time to overall my diet.

NanKate Sat 06-Jun-20 07:24:48

Whenever I get a sugar craving I suck a sugar free sweet and that does it for me. M and S sell some rather nice butterscotch ones. Also I drink ‘Sevenup Free’ which is a sugar free lemonade. I mix it with water and it is still sweet.

Jishere Sat 06-Jun-20 12:02:57

Oh thanks Nankate I will try that it really is the bane of my life having a sweet tooth.
