On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course from the beginning are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits.
We now have some other excellent new regulars who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
Please join us at this difficult time in all our lives with the Pandemic.
So Onward and Downward girls ??
Hi Whiff,so glad you have heating and hot water again. I'm with British Gas and they have always been excellent. Stay cosy. Big hugsxxx
Update on heating. Homeserve coming again tomorrow. Boiler cutting out before room gets to set temp on thermostat. Then cuts back in and cuts out again before reaching temp. ????. So can't have shower in the morning incase boiler plays up and end up with cold shower. Covid test kit coming tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be broken this time. Why don't boilers play up in the summer? Good job I'm an optimist. ?
Oh Whiff, fingers crossed all will be resolved today!?
I hope it gets sorted today Whiff. ?
Thinking of you Whiff ?
Oh our poor dear Whiff - I'm sure you will get it sorted today, let's hope so and I really hope you are feeling a bit brighter.

Your comment about boilers only playing up in the winter reminded me of my Grandmother - when she had lost something she would search and search until she found it - then she would exclaim ....
Why is it always in the last place that I look!
Morning pears. Homeserve came and fitted a new thermostat. So easy to use. Did my Covid test yesterday and posted it at my nearest NHS priority post box which is 10mins away. Masked and kept away from people. Just checked they have got it at the lab. Got UTI GP has given me different antibiotics double the strength. Hopefully that should be the end of them for I hope months. Not been my week the arm came of my distance glasses good job I go to Specsavers and always have 2 pairs. No idea where the screw went. Trip to get them repaired after lockdown.
Brilliant piece of news my daughter and family moving house on Friday. When we what's app face time yesterday as it was my grandson's 3rd birthday she didn't cough once. She looks better. Just need my test to be negative then I am out of isolation on the 2nd and can help them in anyway they need me.
Thank you all for your good wishes.
How are you enjoying your job Dorset?
Have a good day everyone ?
Hi Whiff?. Good grief you've had one of those weeks. Hopefully this means things are on the up now?.
I thoroughly loved my first week on every level. As of Monday I'm working from home so small challenge tomorrow of setting equipment up. Pretty sure will be fine but you know how technology can be!?.
I will miss the office and do feel sad when think about how it would be different in normal times.
That said for the next 5 weeks I'm training so can be done from home. The office was perfectly Covid safe. The taxi was probably the weakest link although that was a safe as could be. I was very surprised how I transformed from someone who has barely left the house to being out there so to speak. Probably due to being treated with respect unlike my previous job.
Covid was an inescapable presence though. Certainly in my area it's much more common to hear of people who have experience of it. We have gone from the lowest rates in country to the 20th highest?. I did have one paranoid moment one evening when felt a sore throat coming on but realised not had a lot to drink and it disappeared ?.
Hopefully I've been lucky?. It will be a relief not to contend with masks, hand gel etc etc.
Hopefully the vaccination is sooner rather than later. I have also ordered some FFP2 masks for future use!
Diet going well, I hope! Will find out Monday!
Have a lovely weekend all?
Good Morning
Pleased things seem to be improving for you Whiff ?for your results. Pleased for your daughter’s move. Hope it goes well
So pleased things went well Dorsetcupcake.
Had a tricky week and been told I should go on statin. Not over keen but agreed , then read Thread on Statins and really concerned as dose higher than people talking about. Didn’t post though ?
Every cloud. I have lost 2lb
Have a good week
Good morning all,
SisterAct, well done on your loss ?
Dorset I’m pleased to hear that work went well, a supportive work environment is important to our mental health.
Whiff, I hope that your test result is negative and that you are beginning to feel better.
I lost a measly 3 quarters of a pound this week and was a bit peeved, as I’ve not broken my diet and have been really strict around portion control. But I did read an article about why plateaus happen - apparently your body needs time to adjust to the lighter you and reestablish your basal metabolic calorie need before it then kicks in to another loss cycle, so perhaps I’m at that point. Here’s hoping for better next week ?
I’m really pleased that school has issued me with lateral flow test kits for twice weekly testing. Did my first one this morning and it was ok, it’s surprising what a difference it makes to thought patterns. I just hope that people doing them don’t see the results as permission to mix and mingle more.
Wishing a good week for all.
Well done Sisteract and Sarahmob - they are both losses - don't get downhearted Sarahmob as it's still a loss and if you look back at what you weighed six months or a year ago you will see a huge loss!
I have well and truly fallen off the wagon this week - had a really sinful week eating absolutely everything that is on the 'Do Not Eat' list.
Pure piggery but in my defence I do believe when your mental health is busy you need more comfort food.
We are still providing lots of telephone counselling to bereaved relatives and I admit it's hard.
It doesn't help that hubby can eat a horse, come back for more and not put on an ounce!
Obviously nothing like normal exercise doesn't help either, so this week I have put on 1.6lbs. I have just put it on my weight chart and the huge yellow block stretching way up the screen had given me the jolt that I need this week.
As Captain Tom says ... 'Tomorrow will be a good day'!!!
Good luck everyone - little blips can be got over!!!

Well get my bit out of the way first. My weight has stayed the same which after this week I am happy with. Had the first of the new antibiotics on Friday night and the one yesterday morning. On the afternoon became to feel unwell. And got worse. Thought it might be the antibiotics not suiting me. There are walk in clinics up here so phoned. After talking to the nurse asked to go in at 5.30 and bring a sample. Always have sample pots in stock. Told my daughter said she would take me as she is also in isolation and has Covid I asked if it was allowed. She got back to me and it was as it was medical emergency. She double masked and I was masked as well. Anyway sample clear. After feeling my kidneys which was tender sent me to A &E. My daughter dropped me off as didn't know how long I would be. Told them I was waiting for test results. Within minutes was triaged and wheeled off to Covid hot spot. It wasn't called that they said a number but my daughter said that's what it was. Didn't wait to long to see the Dr was with her for over 30 mins. Turns out other antibiotics had cleared the UTI but my kidneys were infected. So now on 7 day course of different antibiotics. My daughter fetched me and got the tablets. I started to take them this morning because the other antibiotics was in my body yesterday.
Had email last night Covid test negative. Had to put code into app and my isolation went to 0.
Because of being with my daughter, walk-in centre and hospital decided to stay in insolation until original date midnight Friday. But am going to order another test to come on Wednesday and retest. To make sure I am clear. Also if it is broken can reorder . Fingers crossed it will be negative and can help my daughter and family unpack on the 6 th.
SisterAct well done at the loss. My brother was put on Statins they gave him muscle pains in his legs but changed to a different sort and has been fine. He's cholesterol has come down a lot.
Sarahmob it's still a loss. You are right about your body having to adjust to your new weight. Just carry on as you are an inspiration. Glad you have got the test kits. They will give you piece of mind.
Four with all you are juggling it's understandable to have a bad week. I am surprised I haven't put on this week. Must be all the weeing has kept it the same?.
Dorset so glad you are being treated with respect and enjoying your job. Both my niece and son in law have been working from home since March. My niece misses the office hustle and bustle as she is a real people person. My son in law has done more work from home than he did in the office. So it's swings and roundabouts working from home but at least they still have jobs and like you are safe at home.
Have a good week everyone and thank you all for your good wishes. You really a bunch of wonderful women. ?????

Thanks Whiff but I can't really say it's understandable because during the week (NOT all together
) I have had chocolate, home-made bread (hubby's fault for digging out the bread machine!), biscuits, Toad in the Hole (Hubby's fault for cooking it and he is the Catering Officer!) and more chocolate.
In order to prevent the local news reporting a whale washed ashore I am going to have a strict week this week
Four you will never be a whale.
The boiler saga continues guess what started to make the noise it did Wednesday. Homeserve coming anytime between now and 6. Will be masked and asked engineer to be as well. Recorded it this time. So if it doesn't make a sound when switched on at least he can hear it.
Good afternoon all,and thankyou for your kind wishes?. Well done on the loss Sisteract. Dont worry to much about the statins. I was on the highest dose for years, started to get leg cramps and dose halved. It was fine at first then leg cramps started so stopped them. Before I went to USA thought i had better get it sorted for health insurance. Saw GP and put me on Ezitimibe which not a statin but has similar effect. It was only supposed to be a few months as apparently much more expensive! That was 2018 and still on them and no problems at all. So,there is always an alternative!
It's frustrating when you've stuck to plan and lost less than you hoped Sarahmob but you may find you lose more next week or the week after.?. I'm glad they are supplying tests at school. It is a strange thing this pandemic, trying to find a genuine balance is so hard !
I am sure things will click into place when the time is right Fourormore. Emotionally you are having a tough time, and theres a reason they call it comfort food after all. You are keeping an eye on it which is important.
Whiff,if it was allowed you could do with a little break somewhere! Hopefully you will start to feel very much better soon! I hope the boilers fixed soon too. I had a similar thing with mine a few years ago and they had to come out about three times. In the end it was a very small electrical part. Just before Christmas it made a most peculiar sound and went off! That was the control box so a new one was put in.
I'm all set up for home working. It was a big relief as technology doesnt always do what you want!
I officially weigh into tomorrow. I'm expecting to stay the same! Have a wonderful week lovely ladies ?
Dorset. I am fine I love being in my bungalow. I haven't had a holiday since 2005. I just used to visit the children and classed that as a holiday. But I have promised myself a proper holiday when I get my state pension in just over 3 years. I want to go too. Ireland had many happy times there.
As soon as we have had both doses of vaccine my brother and sister and Aggie the dog will be coming to stay. Haven't seen them in person for a year.
You will be able to say you are off to the office tomorrow. Where ever you are set up in your home. ?
Boiler saga continues. Of course it didn't make the noise. Good job I recorded it. But couldn't pin point it. So I have to put it on as normal in the morning. Because it had been on for hours before it made the noise. If it makes the noise tomorrow not to switch it off as it wouldn't blow up. Hopefully it will be sorted tomorrow. At least I have the heat back on so toasty warm.
Whiff Keep warm . Keep well.
Dorset So pleased you like your new job.
SisterAct If you are not keen on statins you might be interested to find out what your risk of coronary heart diease is with and without them. Here is an online calculator.https://qintervention.org/index.php
Just key in your cholesterol result, age, height ,weight, whether you smoke or not etc. and you'll get your risk score. Then you can key in what your score would likely be if you take a statin. It also calculates your risk for diabetes.
I lost 1/2 lb this week so managed (with difficulty!) to keep within target. Have a good week everyone.
Well done sisteract & cocoapop on the loss and 3/4 down is good sarahmob but I know what you mean when one has done it all by the book for a week and was hoping more of a loss.......glad your improving whif.
Lost l lb this week, one more lb and I will be ‘normal’ weight not ‘over weight’ lol...
1st of February and will be another long month in lockdown. Thank goodness for Skype , was on it a lot yesterday with the grandchildren.....have a good one guys....
Well done to the losers. I have stayed the same.
Morning all?. Like you Beechnut I have stayed the same but I'm ok with that.
I hope your boiler behaves Whiff and you are starting to feel better.
I think I'm all set for my first WFH day. I did wake up in the night wondering about a file I saved to my desk top last week and wondering if on laptop! Silly things ?. I'm training for nearly a month so not to bad. Be a novel experience but value how lucky I am. Stay safe everyone ?
Well done the losers and maintainers.
Well the engineer came who was here Thursday and Friday listened to the noise talked to colleagues but couldn't figure out what was wrong. But at least it's working. He has given me his number to contact as soon as it makes the noise and he will stop what he is doing and come right over.?. Must admit I am feeling miserable . I am used to pain but this is getting me down. Apparently can take a few days before I feel better and couple of weeks to be properly well. Read up on kidney infection. Clear wee is a sign of it. Had that each time I had UTI. The nurse at the walk in felt my tummy and said kidney infection and the Dr at the hospital did. If my GP had seem me it could have been dealt will weeks ago. Sorry just having a moan. Hate feeling ill. I have been ill for 33 years I am used to that. But this is knocking me about. My daughter has sent some photos of the boys so that cheered me up.
Sorry for that post feeling sorry for myself . That was unfair about my GP if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have been seizure free for a year nor would I have known I was born with a heart defect.
No need to apologise Whiff, the infection will make you feel ill and no doubt antibiotics making you feel off colour too. Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow. Big hugs?
Dorset thank you. How did you get on at work hope the commute wasn't hard on you???
