Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Vegasmagas it is always sad when our family leave us. My 3 year old grandson threw me a kiss from the car as he left and it finished me off !!

NanKate Thu 03-Jul-14 16:53:20

Sorry I spelt your name wrong and I haven't had a sip of wine yet. hmm

vegasmags Thu 03-Jul-14 16:57:37

Nonu Fri 04-Jul-14 20:48:31

NAN we were given a HUGE bag of gooseberries by a friend.

#I am going to make gooseberry fool , which I love .

They are gorgeous, and of all the fruits seem to be the ones we can"t get all year round !

NanKate Fri 04-Jul-14 21:15:13

I'm not much of a cook - on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it to make a gooseberry fool please ?

vegasmags Fri 04-Jul-14 22:10:10

Always welcome NanKate as long as you bring crumble with you grin

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 16:08:07

10 Nankate (easy). Finding the right recipe could be the problem though. I usually stew them gently, whiz in the liquidiser then sieve if you don't want pips, don't sieve if you like some texture. Add thick sweet custard and fold in whipped cream. Or use thick Greek yogurt and sweeten to taste. Sorry it is not more precise but you get the gist I hope.

Gooseberries also freeze well, top and tail and freeze in poly bags or plastic boxes.

NanKate Sat 05-Jul-14 16:31:45

That sounds like my kind of food preparation Rose thanks so much. flowers

kittylester Sat 05-Jul-14 17:33:15

Please stop talking about gooseberries. They make me do a 'lemon mouth'

Take \away curry tonight for us!!

Coolgran65 Sat 05-Jul-14 18:00:28

Oh, my mouth is watering. My father always grew gooseberries and made jam. Just love gooseberries.

Tonight is Saturday, DH is playing lawn bowls and will be home shortly around 6.30pm. But as they have tea and sandwiches after bowls we always have dinner latish on a Saturday, we will have rib-eye steak (£7 for 2 in Asda) and they are superb cooked on the George Foreman Grill for about 7 minutes and then left to rest for about 5 minutes. Asparagus (reduced) popped onto the Foreman Grill for the last 3 minutes, and probably salad. If in doubt pull out some salad smile All made in about 15 minutes.

Think if I look there might be some crusty bread to warm slightly (cos it's yesterdays -and maybe a bit stale-)

Nonu Sat 05-Jul-14 18:00:37

KITTY, don"t be a gooseberry !!

Curry for us tonight also , snap !

smile

I LOVE gooseberries. We bought a pound of them from a roadside stall when we were out in the Kent countryside on Thursday. Haven't yet decided how to cook them!
But tonight I'm making chicken liver stroganoff. It's cheap, nutritious and healthy - hardly any waste and no fat.

Tomorrow, DH is doing roast lamb - he does roasts far better than I do. He likes doing things that are simple and take precision timing, whereas I do casseroles, bakes, salads, quiches, puds and pies.

I wish we could grow gooseberries. We have an apology for a gooseberry bush, but it's not produced fruit for years sad
In contrast we have loads of blackcurrants and we eat them just as they come. Delicious!

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 18:22:12

Sorry my recipe is not a bit more precise, but I am a sort of throw it in and hope it works kind of cook (except with cakes). There will be some recipes on the net I am sure.

We have loads of gooseberries and have given lbs of them away. They seem to like our soil (clay)

Gammon this evening. I have a george foreman grill somewhere, may go and dig it out, had forgotten about it!

Rowantree Sat 05-Jul-14 18:28:39

Do you have one gooseberry bush or more, rosequartz? And what variety? I think I need to replace ours hmm

Rowantree Sat 05-Jul-14 18:30:11

And I'm a throw-it-in and walk away type of cook generally speaking. Which is why DH took over the roasts blush

kittylester Sat 05-Jul-14 18:41:34

I would point out though Nonu that, as DH is in sporting mode (watching it) I will be going to collect it. Take aways are usually Dh's department as they are classed, in my book, as a day off. So, not only do I not cook, I don't collect either. grin

We could have it delivered but DH objects to asking them to deliver free as it's only a five minute walk. He has two degrees confused I drove to collect it and caused havoc on the High Street by parking outside the takeaway. This is permitted although by the hoots and filthy looks I got, not a lot of people know that!! grin

hildajenniJ Sat 05-Jul-14 18:46:12

We had paella (home made) with chicken and shellfish for lunch. Tonight we are having courgette soup and sandwiches of some description, I haven't decided yet.Tomorrow until Wednesday I will be alone with the dog, DH is going to visit DD and SiL and DGC to help build furniture and a trampoline (? Spelling) as they have just moved house envy and he is getting to see it before me. I can't go.,on Dad duty this week.

Ana Sat 05-Jul-14 18:47:19

It's a five minute walk but you drove, kittylester? confused
