Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

She probably had to fit it in during half time Ana....

vegasmags Sat 05-Jul-14 19:25:36

Smoked salmon pasta tonight, in a sour cream, onion and tomato sauce.

kittylester Sat 05-Jul-14 20:04:08

It gets cold!!

Ana Sat 05-Jul-14 20:05:37

Could have put the oven on before you left! wink

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 20:14:50

We have 5 gooseberry bushes, Rowantree, and not sure of the variety. They are not in full sun, but do get some, and the soil is clay - lots of things don't survive but fruit bushes seem to do well. (Except the raspberries, my favourite!)

I used the george forman grill (found it stowed away in the top cupboard), it cooked well but cleaning it was a pain. Now I know why it was put in the cupboard!

Rowantree Sat 05-Jul-14 20:32:32

FIVE, rosequartz? That's just plain old greedy ;)
We wouldn't have room for more than a couple, unless I get shot of some of the herbs. H'mmm....
The thought of having more (or indeed ANY) gooseberries is very appealing!

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 21:14:27

My herbs are now in pots; the chives look very sad but some are growing up through a crack in paving slabs and looking very healthy!

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 21:16:49

Some of our gooseberry bushes grew from cuttings from the originals so you could try that, Rowantree. Saves buying new ones, unless you want to try a different variety. I think a couple of ours were fungus-resistant varieties.

kittylester Sat 05-Jul-14 21:44:45

Ana it goes straight into the hot trolley when we get back because we then have a couple of drinks before we eat! grin

Ana Sat 05-Jul-14 21:52:37

So there you are then kitty - a brisk walk there and back to the takeaway would have worked off some of those calories beforehand, and made you fitter! grin

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 22:18:18

Getting some good ideas on here.

Coolgran65 Sat 05-Jul-14 23:17:05

rosequartz -
Mine is a new George Foreman - no sticking, just a wipe with kitchen roll after use. The old one was a nightmare. On this one I do bacon, sausages and fried egg on it. When you crack the egg onto it just tip the grill back a little, for a moment, until the white of the egg starts to set. Works perfectly.

rosequartz Sat 05-Jul-14 23:25:37

Mine is an old one, coolgran. May put it back in the cupboard grin
Along with the juicer, the electric carving knife, the coffee percolator, the water filter jug etc etc

sparkygran Sun 06-Jul-14 11:30:37

Honey glazed slow baked ham with roast vegs (Beetroot, garlic and red onion posted a while ago am giving it a go) and roast potatoes. Looking forward to the Men`s Final at Wimbeldon this afternoon

ninathenana Sun 06-Jul-14 11:35:30

I gave my George Foreman to DD smile the coffee percolator is used about 4 times a year. The large Kenwood mixer that was inherited from MiL including several still boxed attachments has been sitting looking decorative in the corner for 20+ yrs grin

janerowena Sun 06-Jul-14 11:36:16

Pork fillets with patatas bravas and asparagus. Meringues with pureed mixed fruits from the garden whipped into cream.

ninathenana Sun 06-Jul-14 11:37:08

Oh, and returning to the OP, were having roast pork, new pots, carrots and homemade apple sauce tonight.

rosequartz Sun 06-Jul-14 12:52:19

Hope you enjoy the roast beetroot, sparkygran. I keep eyeing up the beetroot in the garden to see if any are large enough yet to make it.

We are having roast beef + everything tonight. Don't ask me why, just that we haven't had it for weeks, months even, so I just fancied it.
Followed by something with gooseberries, not sure what yet, depends how long the men's singles match lasts!

vegasmags Sun 06-Jul-14 12:53:18

Tonight on the menu is Slimming World chips, 2 fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes - something quick and easy in case the tennis goes on for a long time.

kittylester Sun 06-Jul-14 12:56:10

Cold roast chicken, salad and some potatoes cooked with chili, honey and garlic - DH's responsibility!

merlotgran Sun 06-Jul-14 16:04:09

We've just had lime and tarragon roast chicken, new potatoes, steamed carrots, peas, broad beans and baby parsnips from the garden followed by gooseberry curd pudding and creme fraiche.

sparkygran Sun 06-Jul-14 18:24:26

Delicious meal and many thanks to GN poster for giving me a heads up for roasted beetroot, red onion and garlic with a glaze - I have gone back over the posts but can`t find you and I know I should know your name anyway it was great just concocted my own version and my DH who is recovering from a stroke adored it.

thatbags Sun 06-Jul-14 18:58:24
