I'm not going to tell him.....

but I'll bet you think I should.

Next week we're off on holiday to visit old friends in Norway, this couple have been very close to my husband since he was a boy and they're now very old and frail. The husband has terminal cancer and so we are not likely to see them again. It will be hard for my husband to say goodbye. I'm flying home and my husband will get home three weeks later as he's cycling home.

I've had a sore throat for some time and had the feeling of having a lump there. I saw the GP last week and got a very speedy referral to the hospital. I didn't tell my husband about the hospital appointment because I wanted to know what I was dealing with before worrying him. I saw the consultant today for an endoscopy and there is in fact a lump in my throat, which the consultant suspects is benign, but he's referred me for an MRI scan and biopsy. I imagine the date of the scan will be as soon as I return from my holiday. So, I've decided not to mention it to my husband. If I tell him he'll insist on returning home with me and thereby miss out on time to process saying goodbye to his old friend and on some much needed R&R. The lump is most likely benign and if it isn't then at least my lovely man will have had a great experience to set him up for caring for me.

We usually talk about everything and if I was worried and needed his support I would certainly tell him, but I really want him to have his adventure. If the lump does turn out to be worrisome he can fly home and be back the same day if I need him to. (I haven't told anyone else either so this is our little secret - shh!)

Well that wasn't too bad!
I spent a long time in the recovery room as I kept falling asleep and my heart rate was very low, but eventually they sent me back to the ward where they continued to monitor me, finally allowing me to go home 15 minutes before the Day Case ward closes. On my way out I vomited spectacularly just as I reached the nurse station so I had to leave in a wheelchair clutching a sick bowl. Oh the indignity!!
Today I've only been sick once and mostly slept. My tongue is very sore and the inside of my mouth is scratched and a bit raw, but my throat isn't as painful as I expected, so that's a bonus. The surgeon took several tissue samples, but seemed very positive, although they don't give anything away until the results come back, which will be at least two weeks.
I have a whole army of people praying for a good outcome and lots of others sending 'positive thoughts' - so I'm feeling well supported and very hopeful.
Thank you for your good wishes Gransnetters - they're much appreciated. smile

Having slept right through until 11:30 (!!!) this morning I'm feeling really well now. I can talk in a rather husky voice and I'm ignoring the soreness of my mouth and tongue - taking alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen (who gave that drug such a stupid name?) keeps the pain at bay.

Today my daughter is coming to stay and The Wonderful Man is taking her boys camping overnight. Tomorrow my sons and my parents in law are joining us for lunch to celebrate Father's Day (and to cast an eye over me I suspect). The Wonderful Man is preparing a buffet lunch and my lovely mother in law is bringing desserts, so I have nothing to do except be there. Lovely!

Pleased to see the effects have worn off quickly, ga. Let's hope the pain goes soon too flowers. And what a lovely man your H is to be preparing lunch tomorrow on his day smile

THANK YOU!!!! For all your good wishes, prayers and support. I had my results back this morning and my tumours are benign!!
Now my poor friends and family can begin to relax and I can start to make plans again. The Wonderful Man had put holiday booking on hold until my results came through - just in case. So we are off to Turkey at the beginning of September, just after we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and my birthday. grin

Sadly my sister had tests on the same day as me, but her news is not so good; she has pancreatic cancer. sad

What good news for a wonderful, considerate and selfless lady. Thinking of others whilst going through what you've been through was truly humbling. I am so, so, sorry to hear about your sister. I had cancer at the same time as my sister. I made it, she didn't. So I thank the lord you can be there, without worry for your own health, to help your dear sister during her ordeal. Sending you the biggest warm hug. flowers
