Comparison of deaths from Covid to other reasons

I truly wonder if the majority of people the UK know how many people die of causes other than covid? and why the panic over Covid is so great. I think we should concentrate on spending any spare cash, on building more hospitals and training more staff. If the government had started that in 2015, we would not be having to protect the NHS, instead of them protecting us! They know how much the population is expanding.
Data from ons.gov.uk England & Wales
Deaths from Flu & Pneumonia 2019 - 26,398K
Deaths from Cancer 2020 - 147,407K
Sadly, Deaths from suicide - 2020 - 5,224
Deaths from Covid 2020 - 134,504K
What do other GN think?

Isn't it an offence against the Official Secrets Act to tell people you've signed the Official Secrets Act?

It was in my day. Let alone talk to your mum about it then have her put it on a public site... confused

Lots of deleted messages, what’s going on? I would draw a distinction between a doctor telling her mother that most of the people she’s treating are unvaccinated - which isn’t a breach of confidentiality unless she identifies them - and someone whose work requires them to sign the OSA telling their mother about their work, which is a serious breach of the Act. Remember those people who worked at Bletchley Park who didn’t divulge to anyone at all what they did for decades after the war ended?

Alegrias1 Mon 20-Dec-21 15:54:37

I would tell you what happened but I'd have to shoot you.

Official secrets and all that. grin

Please GNHQ, don't delete me! Or maybe its GCHQ shock

Aha! Say no more!?

More people will die of other causes if all the beds in hospital are full of sick covid patients. Do not underestimate the chaos it could yet bring to us .

Well the last few posts have cheered me. I have to admit to feeling rather grumpy. I slipped a couple of weeks ago and broke my wrist, leaving me unable to ride or drive and as we live way off a bus route, I've been pretty much housebound. It's probably quite fortuitous in some ways, not seen friends etc so hopefully avoided the dreaded "O" but it's been such dismal grey weather that even walking dogs (we have dr daughter's as she is now on nights or long days) has been a bit miserable. Daughter is back on nights later this week, finishing at 08.00a.m. on Christmas morning, so please try to stay out of ICU in an anonymous hospital in the SW, I'm hoping she has an easy shift or two.

Is MI5 monitoring this thread? ?. Though if they are, I suppose they won’t be able to say so. ???

You might think so SueDonim, but I couldn't possibly comment. ?️‍♀️

Thanks, fortunately not a complex break so should heal quickly. Fantastic service at minor injuries clinic, x rayed and dealt with in less than an hour with follow up from virtual fracture clinic by phone and in writing. So much better than hanging around in A&E etc.

Excellent service.
Our minor injuries unit closed down ages ago, unfortunately, even then they wouldn't have dealt with a fracture.
