Black flooring for kitchen?

I worked in a very busy house, with lots of people milling around, parties quite often, and the dining table with 7 people eating there every day.
We had oak effect lino down, and it kept immaculate.
It had been down around 10 years and was as good as the day it was laid.
Plus it didn't show any crumbs or stains.

My kitchen flooring is black. I love it. Quick sweep each day ( would need to do that whatever the colour) and a quick mop a couple of times a week.

Can you get a rug sized sample or offcut of the vinyl and see if the cats claw it?
Lay it on the kitchen floor and see what they do.

gmelon managed to get a reasonable sized piece, ignored by mogs, so we can tick the box on that count.

Now it seems to be just down to my worry that it will make the kitchen look smaller and darker

My floor is dark navy blue stone tiles. Doesn't show the dirt but does show up every crumb.
I'd be happier if I could see the dirt and that it's been cleaned.
I'd also be happier if it showed less small crumbs.
Not a success really but does make for a very clean floor, just in case there is unseen dirt lurking.
Then again I don't clean it. (Multiple sclerosis).

p.s I do love the look of it though.

No no no don’t have black slate. Very unfriendly, unless you Have underfloor heating it’s cold, and rough and unless you make sure to have it properly sealed and maintain it then it’s hell to clean.
Just replaced one. With wood.

Phoenix, if you feel good with black floor why not? I love modern interiors so I also have kitchen with mixed black and wooden color. Of course there must be a lot of light in the room so it won't be so dark. If you are not sure what floor color to choose let's make an visualisation in design programms. In Ikea it is free to ask an assistant to help you or you can do it on your own online!

I don't like black flooring for kitchen at all. Because kitchen needs more cleaning and back color is not suitable for it.

Shiny black tiles do show every mark - DH did some odd jobs for a builder friend after retirement, one task was to clean the very stylish shiny black tiles the buyer had requested throughout a very large kitchen-diner.
He came home and said 'please don't ever choose shiny black tiles for our kitchen!'.

I have faux travertine tiles down in the kitchen. It is harder wearing than the stone because it is porcelain and will not stain. It never looks dirty.

In our last house we had terracotta tiles which needed mopping every couple of days and polishing every so often.

I would think very hard before putting a dark floor in the kitchen.

I had black slate in my kitchen and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Every little crumb, mark and water spillage showed up and baking day was a nightmare! Put oak effect vinyl down and that's so much better.

It's probably the only time DH has cleaned a kitchen floor - and it had to be done to perfection! It must have put him off completely.

I would go for medium to light grey, as black will show every speck of dust and crumb.
