Bathroom floor, please help!

Hello all, and good wishes.

The bathroom revamp has been done, and we are really pleased with it!

The pearlescent ice blue tiles have gone, replaced by Travertine (sort of sandy, camel coloured panels) almost black wood effect vanity unit and bath panel.

The ceiling and the parts of the walls that are not panelled are plain white.

We need to choose the flooring.

So far we have narrowed it down to either a honey coloured narrow plank wood effect, or black and white tile effect.

Would value your opinions!

(Will try to upload photos and screen shots!)

Doodle I did it by taking the photos (or screen shots) on my tablet.

Then, when typing the post, look for the little paperclip symbol and click on it. You can then go to your photos and choose the one you want.

Give it a go, if I can do it, anyone can!

Thanks for the vote mumofmadboys it would seem that votes are reasonably equally divided!

IMO, Karndean flooring is brilliant in bathrooms - we had ours down for years and it even helped to sell the house. Definitely worth the money, in my view. (I understand that Amtico flooring is similar.) Lots of lovely neutral designs (would be my person choice) plus "wood" ones, as well as the more "classic" designs. See: www.karndean.com/en-gb/floors/products

Just to throw a spanner in the works, we have the same tiles, but have a paler version of the Travertine in tiles on the floor, with little aluminium inserts where the black would go on the white flooring. If it is not a huge bathroom it shouldn't be too expensive, and would definitely cope with the 'sploshing'!

Oh bugger! Thanks all for the responses, but I'm now completely confuddled!

We've got Karndean flooring in the right style at work, I've asked if I could perhaps sort of "take" some from the kitchen, which isn't really used since my boss died, but funnily enough I wasn't allowed to!

I love your bath n the sink vanity unit but I not keen on either sorry

Ok folks, we are now open to suggestions!

Black tiles or wood. Why add white?

mumofmadboys Mon 30-Dec-19 16:23:56

Black tiles would be far too dark IMHO.

Honey coloured wood effect vinyl, there are some terrific ones- I have just been looking at replacement flooring for my downstairs loo which sort of flooded before Christmas. Assuming your bathroom is upstairs and has a wooden floor, any sort of ceramic would need a flat wood chip floor as planks “give” and because ceramic tiles don’t, you can get the odd cracked tile.
I was also advised that Karndean is expensive to lay and I would need to have the floor screeded . So I am going for a medium oak Karndean “lookalike” which can be laid on the existing thermoplastic (Marley) tiles which were laid everywhere when the house was built in the 70’s.
I like the contrast between the monochrome and the honey you describe.
Black and white chequered would give me a migraine and a black or dark grey floor would show up every speck of dust. I know, I have dark grey slate in the ensuite and wish I had gone for something lighter!

Yehbut the walls that are not panelled are plain white.

A black floor might look stylish, but I agree with mumofmadboys, too dark.

The bathroom is North facing and has a very small window.

Yehbutnobut Mon 30-Dec-19 16:36:29

I have very dark grey ones, almost black and they look smart.

Yehbutnobut Mon 30-Dec-19 16:37:36

Ah! My bathroom is very light. So if you are north facing then yes, it might be too dark.

MawB the house was built in 2005, so the floors are that chipboard type stuff.

However, judging by the amount of creaking noise while Mr P is getting ready for work at about 5am, I wouldn't put money on them being particularly stable!

We've gone over budget with some of the little "add ons" so it will have to be vinyl.

mrswoo Mon 30-Dec-19 16:46:47

I like the wood flooring but I don’t think it would look good enough/smart enough for the rest of the bathroom.
The black and white tiles are lovely but may be a bit dark.

We’ve recently had our bathroom re-done and actually have almost identical floor tiles as the panels you have on the wall behind the unit.

Sorry, I’m not being very helpful am I.

We have honey coloured tiles on the walls, and a different, darker sort of honey tiles on the floor. Doesn't look too brown! Was going to have Karndean flooring, but was advised against it as we intended to put underfloor heating in. The underfloor heating is very nice on a cold winter's morning!I
I don't really know what to advise, phoenix.

KatyK Mon 30-Dec-19 17:09:20

We have the wood effect one in our bathroom. It's lovely and doesn't show the dirt.

phoenix Mon 30-Dec-19 17:42:53

Hmm, one step forward, 2 steps back!

I did think that the black/white could work, because it's predominately white, just little black diamonds to sort of break up the whiteness, and give a bit of a link to the almost black furniture.

Thank you all for the input though, it is appreciated!

lemongrove Mon 30-Dec-19 18:32:23

All down to personal choice Phoenix ....we have honey coloured tiles on the floor, we used to live in a house with black tiled shower room( floor tiles) and they showed even the smallest of soap/ scum marks.?

lemongrove Mon 30-Dec-19 18:33:23

Although small black diamonds should be fine, a sort of Victorian bathroom look?

phoenix Mon 30-Dec-19 18:44:41

Yes, Lemongrove but the bathroom doesn't have a Victorian look, although that flooring could still (possibly) work??

lemongrove Mon 30-Dec-19 18:46:54

Yes, it would, picking up a hint of black, very smart look.

NotSpaghetti Mon 30-Dec-19 18:54:08

What a good idea B9exchange - sounds lovely.

I'm a marmoleum fan personally - they have lots of stunning options...
But I expect you are now sick of looking phoenix given that you have narrowed it down to two!

NotSpaghetti Mon 30-Dec-19 18:55:36

If you are fixed on these 2 Phoenix I'd go with the black and white - as you say, not a lot of black and would link in.

Chewbacca Mon 30-Dec-19 19:03:03

're black flooring: it's a bloody nightmare to keep clean! I had black tiles in my kitchen and it showed up every water stain, flour, crumb etc; imagine keeping that clean in a bathroom? I've just had Quick Step vinyl flooring laid in my new bathroom; narrow plank effect, and it's very easy to keep clean. But it's grey! Sorry Phoenix!

phoenix Mon 30-Dec-19 19:34:45

Again, thank you to all.

I thought that I had narrowed it down, but as mentioned earlier, open to suggestions!

Not a large bathroom, which is why we had to have an over bath shower, couldn't fit in a separate one, even if we went with a smaller bath.
