Does salt water bathing soothe his feet? A child paddling pool might be beneficial for him

Paddling pool is a great idea karmalady. I had bought him a huge hard plastic pool and he didn't like it for playing in to cool off, but I can get a tiny plastic one for this week. I've got into the vets at 10.40, I can take him with me into Homebase afterwards. The joys of owning an elderly dog!

Razz so pleased that the work in proceeding well and that you can really look forward to properly settling down and into your home soon.

I have to record how much I love living in a seaside town. When I go out, amidst all the families on holiday, it makes me feel like I am on holiday also - with the added benefit of being able to sleep in my own bed.

This last weekend has been particularly great here as the second Weston super Mare Shanty Festival has been held. All organised and run by volunteers from a local shanty group. With the main stage set up in a large community area off the High Street, there are also simultaneously many local pubs, cafes etc hosting these groups. So, as you go round the town you are hearing music/singing coming from so many areas. Absolutely brilliant .

Razzamatazz our elderly labrador used to get those cyst on his front paws. They are awful n just appear for no reason
Our vet said to bathe his paws in warm epsom salts. We used a cheap washing up bowl as he was too big for us lift and hated the bath.

Afternoon all, just back from the vets and Homebase.

Dog has just has his first three quarter tablet in ice cream, I hope it helps him with the pain, it's horrible for them isn't it Sally97.

The good news is that my storage company can accommodate me for another week, the bad news is that this varnishing lark is going to be tough going. I spoke to the man in Homebase and apparently need to use a foam roller, none of them fit on the long stick so I'll need to duct tape a broom handle to a normal 4" roller handle. Apparently I should ideally sand in between the THREE coats. He recommended I 'watch some YouTube' videos. His face was a picture, he obviously felt sorry for me! I feel sorry for me too!

Razzamatazz why don't you just employment someone to do it. Ok it will cost you more but they will do it quicker than you can and you will be not be exhausted . Plus there is no chance of you injuring yourself . I still remember all the times you have doing various things.

It is Razzamatazz, hope the pain killers help him soon. When our lab first started getting them the vets operated on his paw, he was about 9, but it made no difference, wouldnt do it again.
Thats good news about the storage company. Sounds like your going to be busy but Im sure you will do a great job and floors will look fantastic.

Thanks Whiff but there's no-one available that's any good, and I don't want to risk 'trying' someone out on such an important job. I can do it, I've just got super lazy during lockdown and everything seems like a mountainous task. As Gloria Gaynor sings, I will survive!

Razz do one room at the time. Did you ask in Homebase if they had someone who could carry out this work for you? If you intend to carpet any of the area, may not need this wat all. Even a good laminate would probably not require it as they always put down hardwood over floorboards before fitting laminate.

Back from my u3a knit and gossip group, am using, for first time, my new room cooler machine. Water and ice blocks in it and it is working very well indeed. I am watching the temperature in my Living room drop as I type.

Razz - have you looked up Handyman in your County. I say this because we needed a very awkward job doing in the kitchen which required ladders a bucket long arms and a mask - don't ask!! I asked a couple of plumbers but they didn't want to know. By chance I accidentally came across a handyman website who said they would do any job. Sent pics agreed to come a week later but forgot to ask him cost!. Spent nearly four hours here did a brilliant job and charged £65!! I'm not giving anyone else his number ? as Ive plenty of jobs lined up. Said he hangs doors, paints, lays floors, builds flat packs, clears gardens etc etc. Might be worth searching for someone similar in your area.

I have tried a local handyman - answering machine. Wish me luck!

Fran I think the same about where I live, it is so lovely. Before I moved here I would come up from where I lived, about 25min trip, and I remember walking on the beach and thinking; you wouldn't want to go on holiday if you lived here, it's so beautiful and now here I am . Very envious of your cooling machine Fran

Morning all, it's a scorcher here. I've offered the men my fan but they said no thanks. I am going to have to make repeated trips to the dump with the carpet/underlay, but am waiting for the skip to go so I can park in the drive and load, it's so heavy. No chance the remains the handyman left will go in the skip, it's chock-a-block.

Thanks Yogi, it's a horribly sore one and he is limping very badly. I took him down in his buggy to the village for a long walk, but it's far too hot for him, luckily the buggy has a sun shade and the back opens up. He only walked about three foot for a wee. I've got to bathe his foot and have a washing up bowl in the kitchen, I just plonk his front feet in a few times a day. Can't do the beach and risk getting sand in it.

No sign of the handyman yet but I'm hopeful! I won't approach the man that took the wardrobe/unit apart until I hear back from this one.

I've just torn the place apart looking for my travel wallet, I thought my savings bank card was in it. I can see it on my chest of drawers in my mind's eye, but it's not where it's supposed to be! Thankfully I had 'unpacked' it and put my cards etc back, my savings bank card is in the Barclays gadget. Hopefully the travel wallet is in the handbags box!

"The latest @CornwallInsight prediction, based on Ofgem's new methodology, is an 81% price cap rise in Oct (taking typical bill to £3,582/yr) and a further 19% in Jan (so £4,266/yr). That will leave energy prices far more than double what they are today. "

I'm going to have to really tighten my belt - this month alone I've spent over £120 at the vets. My dog's monthly injection is £60 plus the consult fee of £18, and yesterday's tablets cost me £40.

I am lucky, in that a real genuine handyman lives next door, always there to consult and for me to ask if I cannot do something, very very helpful. We are blessed as a group of three neighbours, we are all there for each other but never instrusive. Gold dust.

Razz, my dd and her husband have spent a fortune on their animals, to the detriment of paying down their mortgage, which is why I gave them lump sums in the past. However they are adults and I can not define how they choose to spend.

That is a lot of money on a fixed income razz. Scary

I am working ahead towards the cooler seasons, lots of very nice layering clothing is now ready to use, plus warm tights and leggings. I don`t need to sew any more warm stuff. It is scorching out so I am pottering with some sewing today, nothing much else to do, making a lovely airy dress now with plans for the next item, a beautiful cream linen relaxed overshirt

I might look into reflective window film, probably for next year now. It is the windows that cause the heat build-up in many homes

There is a post on here about bathroom shower screens shattering, as well as other glass items. I can't get into the bathroom to check my over the bath glass but you can bet your life it's not safety glass. That reflective window film is a good idea.

So lucky, the handyman has just phoned, Tuesday at 10 am.

Well it's 3 years today since I moved here. And I couldn't have moved anywhere better . Love my bungalow and my gardens are looking lovely. Spent the day out and treatment myself to lunch with a naughty pud.

Lovely to see all the old gang still here some with name changes but still the people who helped so much when I first joined the thread. ?? To you all. X

Razz - our previous dog developed sores on his toes/paws. Vet cream wasnt helping after a bit of research found Ekoneem ointment online. It's smelly but it cleared up the sores in no time. Costs around £10 for a small pot but lasts ages and works wonders. Hope the handyman can do the work for you.

Up early today, doors and windows open now as was the hatch all night. It was 23 out at bedtime last night and is 13 at the moment.

Medivet is an online pets medical supplier, tons cheaper than getting from the vets Razz, you just need a prescription from your vets which last about 6moths.

Happy Anniversary, Whiff. It is so very relaxing when you are really happy in your home. When someone moved into this block of flats a few years back, they were told by someone already here that by moving here they were probably adding on ten years to their life. Think everyone here is so happy and relaxed, and that does improve your health and add on those years.

Our oldest flat owner is nearly 104 years, next one is 98 years old. That latter did put her flat on the market a few weeks back as her son and daughter (thinking it was in her best interests), had persuaded her she would so much better in a really nice care home, near to where they both lived. After about a month she took the flat off the market telling them she loves living here, and felt far too old to have the chaos of moving ( she has lived here for forty years). Another lady, last year, spent several months looking for a another flat in our town but close to her daughter. Finally, after viewing very many gave up as none of them (even the new and more expensive ones), were as roomy, light and nice as her one here.

I know (like Whiff), that my health has improved greatly since living here, mainly (I think) due to the fact that I am so very content, and have such a lovely, easy life here.

Franbern your last paragraph sums up how to feel. Mind you I have never had such a busy life but love every minute of it.

Only by moving here I finally found out what is wrong with me neurologically and I was born with and it's rare. Plus my old GP misdiagnosed my heart condition. There is not cure for either but treatment is keeping my heart going and no longer have jerking limbs or seizures still have all my usual problems but since they got worse 34 years ago just get on with my life.

I have more friends than I have ever had and neighbours that care.

I don't blame the residents staying put. I wouldn't never give up my bungalow. Living on one level is so much easier. Like the idea you have increased your life span by 10 years.
