Do you make your bed as soon as you get up?

When bed bugs were mentioned earlier in thread I presume dust mites were meant?

You couldn’t live with bed bugs because they bite and need pest control to sort out.

Dust mites live in their thousands in bedding and mattresses and feed on flakes of skin and moisture. My OH has asthma so I’m really fussy about airing the bed and opening windows, to try and cut down on them. Impossible to eradicate but can try and keep under control. I would never dream of making the bed after getting up. It’s only a matter of shaking the duvet and pillows and straightening the sheet before you go to bed anyway.

Yes that was me and I did mean dust mites, I hate to think of the impression I created, a bed crawling with bed bugs. I stand corrected Farzanah.

yes , I throw back the duvet right off the bed and remake bed mid morning..

When I lived in Switzerland - many decades ago when duvets were unusual in GB, feather duvets seemed to aired out the windows or on the balcony in every bedroom window every morning - protected by the overhanging eaves of the house, come rain or shine.
So I still pull the duvet back each morning and let it air- although not out of the window!

Yes that happened in Germany when I was a child, but when I’ve been back since the custom seems to have stopped?

Just roll the top down, smooth the bottom sheet, open the window and plump the pillows. It's neat and quick.....and it looks good, it smells fresher for being aired. I always think of it as a treat to myself because on the odd occasion when I have left it, it doesn't air, I get into a crumpled bed that night, maybe with bits, the pillows aren't right - and then I don't get a good night's sleep. The knock on effect of not making the bed is just not worth it.

I'm another one who sits the bed on rising and makes it later. I also always iron all the bedding after laundering at 60 degrees.

There are all sorts of duvet! I personally can't bear it when staying in a hotel and there's a sheet as well as a duvet. It gets all tangled up and defeats the purpose of a duvet at all. Might as well have blankets.

Seems most of us here do make our beds in the same way then.
Plump the pillows, turn back the duvet, smooth out the bottom (fitted) sheet if necessary. Then that’s it Bobs your uncle.

I turn the duvet back to air the bed. It will (usually) be made at some point later, and if not, it looks quite tidy anyway.

Another window open, air, make later.

Absolutely definitely.... its made, straightened, cushions added, i certainly dont rise in a morning with the 'lark', but despite the lack of energy, I can't vacate the bedroom without the bed resembling a showroom display...... hahaha true.

It is not advised to make a bed immediately, you will be trapping sweat and heat, a great environment for bedbugs.

I fold the covers back to air the bed, especially if the dog has snuck on or under them and often vacuum the sheet. Amazing how much dust there would be for bugs 😱

Thé cat obligingly follows the morning rule of, when I get up she moves to the foot of the bed which allows me to fold back the duvet for airing, windows opened before making the bed up later.
On sunny dry days I occasionally hang the duvet outside on the washing line.
