Income tax for pensioners should not exceed £4,000 per year.

As people who are receiving higher occupational pensions have often paid a lot of income tax during their working lives should they put a limit of £4,000 a year on the amount of income tax to be paid by any one pensioner per year.

Why not accept Franks suggestion of lower tax for us oldies but balance it against restricted access to the NHS, ban us from using roads, libraries, public transport, rubbish collection and all those other services that our taxes finance, oh yes, stop our grandchildren going to school, some of our taxes support education as well.

I agree greatnan.

Hi Greatnan

Rubbish in whose opinion?.
Just because you disagree with what somebody says it does not mean they are talking rubbish.

Frank, I believe people who have a large work pension shouldn't receive the state pension, leaving more for those of us who worked b----y hard for lower salaries. wink

Hi shysal

That would be fine if we do not have to pay any tax after retirement and we get our National Insurance contributions with interest.

Eloethan

People on higher incomes pay more VAT as they tend to buy more.
I suppose they do not have to spend their money but there is no point being the richest person in the graveyard.

Rubbish indeed. Why should pensioners who are millionaires and more have their tax capped at 4000??

Ella46 Wed 13-Mar-13 09:16:00

Perhaps you should give your last remark some thought Frank.

HUNTERF Wed 13-Mar-13 09:29:57

Granjura

There are a lot of millionaires about who are pensioners these days.
You only have to be 60, own a house outright say £400,000, have an occupational pension of £25,000 value £500,000+ as the average life span is expected to be 80+ and say £400,000 in savings and you are more than a millionaire.

I receive private pension and state pension and have money invested to produce an income - so yes I pay tax on it, I don't like it but can see the reasoning behind it. I do think the personal allowance could be higher but don't think that will happen for a long time.

I do spend money on my daughters and granddaughters.
There is no point leaving more than you have to for the government to tale inheritance tax on.

My point entirely Frank. And there are very many who are a lot more, and an awful lot more, than millionaires - should they have their tax capped at 4000?

Orca Wed 13-Mar-13 18:34:25

OFGS ..what next?

Ana Wed 13-Mar-13 18:46:38

Don't ask....hmm

Eloethan Wed 13-Mar-13 18:54:33

Frank Why are you so obsessed with how much income tax you pay? Most people pay tax.

Presumably you have a reasonably comfortable life but you seem to have little compassion for those who are having a very hard time. People on really low incomes - even if they pay little or no income tax - are never exempt from tax because they still have to pay 20% on everything they buy - even essentials - and so a much greater proportion of their money goes on tax.

gillybob Wed 13-Mar-13 22:45:35

Exactly Eloethan well said. smile

Galen Wed 13-Mar-13 22:52:54

Hear! Hear!

Greatnan Wed 13-Mar-13 23:03:36

I think Frank posts whilst holding a big wooden spoon and it is not worth replying to some of his suggestions. I am quite sure he is not serious most of the time. Why bother arguing with him?

gillybob Wed 13-Mar-13 23:08:24

Just for the sport Greatnan no other reason. grin

Ana Wed 13-Mar-13 23:10:20

Yes, it's fun! And sometimes he does actually talk some sense.

gillybob Wed 13-Mar-13 23:12:45

Really Ana ? Must have missed that one grin

Ana Wed 13-Mar-13 23:15:42

Oh, Frank can be very subtle, sometimes...wink

Anne58 Thu 14-Mar-13 00:11:08

Frank please, please please get over yourself.

"London pension" ? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Unless of course you were in the London where the streets were paved with gold and you lifted some of the stones and then decided to distribute your largesse in the "poorer" parts of the UK? Although of course you went to live in the better part of the poorer part, didn't you?

Money is money, no matter where it comes from or where it is spent.

Perhaps you might have a different outcome if you had been paid in magic beans and then relocated to a land where the growing conditions were better for magic beans?

I think Frank insults us all by assuming we are so feeble-minded that we need reminding on a daily, even sometimes hourly basis, of his career/life/financial history. Or perhaps he thinks so many new members join everyday they need to be told. I for one refuse to be riled by Frank as actually I don't believe he is/can be real.

Ariadne Thu 14-Mar-13 09:09:54

Yes!!!
