Absolutely bloody nothing - Merry Christmas Starmer and Co!

Bridie22 Tue 17-Dec-24 14:34:29

Asked to leave the news and politics thread as Starmer robbing pensioners again seemingly isn't news or politics!
Dreadful decision again by the government, they don't value the senior citizens at all.

To be honest I never expected anything else. On Pensioners Facebook pages there is a lot of anger particularly with Liz Kendall who is shown holding a waspi banner promising to identify and deliver a fair solution for the women affected and I can understand why, however so many of my fellow 50s women seem to have been expecting our 'stolen' pensions back and if we were given compensation it would never have been enough for a lot of them anyway. I was affected I did have to work the extra 6 years but I have never expected anything for doing so.

Casdon Tue 17-Dec-24 17:57:25

It’s always been a battle in vain, no government ever committed to fund compensation, and Labour didn’t suggest that they would do so before they were elected.
I’m glad the long-standing payouts due to people affected by the Blood and Post Office scandals are finally happening though.

petal53 Tue 17-Dec-24 18:01:13

I expected nothing better from this lot.

Casdon Tue 17-Dec-24 18:05:06

Much like the last lot then, and no doubt, the next lot. As I said, nobody has committed to paying it.

Marriedalongtime Tue 17-Dec-24 18:05:27

Even if we had been awarded this compensation, they would have worked it so that most of us had left this planet before we received anything. Absolute disgrace but again as already said, I didn’t expect anything else.

petal53 Tue 17-Dec-24 18:07:12

Nonetheless how two faced of Liz Kendall to be pictured holding a poster supporting the WASPI women and then having the nerve to take the completely opposite stand.

Meanwhile we can send millions abroad to help with the green policies of other countries.
I don’t think many people voted for that! But they weren’t told!

Sir Keir endorsed 'fair and fast' compensation in 2022

petal53 Tue 17-Dec-24 18:08:55

Well then Keir Starmer lied.

Aveline Tue 17-Dec-24 18:09:55

Pensioners shafted again. When's the next election?

mae13 Tue 17-Dec-24 18:14:15

Why does Starmer hate old people, especially old women so desperately?
A near perfect example of Olympic standard mysoginy.

I was an ordinary working woman but knew that pension ages were due to be gradually equalised to 65. I remember thinking it would be fairer to split the difference and use 62.5.
It was reported by print media, tv and radio at the time.

Well then Keir Starmer lied.

He didn’t. He never said in the election campaign that there would be compensation? Supporting any group when in opposition without an imminent election is quite different to committing to delivering it when in government. Every party does the same. Just listen to Kemi Badenoch now.

Yes they did! Angela Rayner said “We WILL compensate”. Starmer said it was an injustice and compensation would be paid.

I saw her with that poster petal53. What a two faced liar.

I was listening to one women say she had lost about £41/42,000 because she receive state pension at 65 instead of 60.

The woman likely calculated her loss by estimating the amount she would have received if she had started receiving her state pension at age 60 instead of age 65. This would typically involve multiplying the annual pension amount by the number of years she missed out on receiving payments (in this case, five years), potentially factoring in any increases in pension amounts due to inflation or changes in pension rates over that period. The figure of £41,000 to £42,000 could reflect the total of these missed payments.

However this doesn’t take any account of the higher pension she has been, and will continue, receiving. I can just about see there may be a legal case for people not being notified but I would have thought that proving you didn't receive something would be very difficult.

That is the point! Labour promised to compensate before the election. Now they’re in and showing their true colours.

Casdon Tue 17-Dec-24 18:47:42

We are at cross purposes I think Primrose53. It was made clear by Labour in May 2024, and it was not promised in the manifesto.

Well then Keir Starmer lied.

Nothing new there though. He's lied about everything he said he wouldn't do. No wonder he's been voted the worst PM in modern history.

I think Keir is starting to appreciate that life is a lot easier when in opposition.

I agree totally. Women are not valued by politicians. But for those of us who survive until the next election we can show our displeasure then if nothing else. Men rule the world. Nothing changes really.
